Lionshead Roadside Assistance Program

This tire-and-wheel assembly comes with complimentary roadside assistance for 2 years. If your RV or trailer has a flat tire, call the help line and a technician will come change the flat for you. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico.

1-Year No Excuses Guarantee

The tire on this assembly has a 1-year No Excuses Guarantee. If within the first 12 months the tire is damaged in any way that's not covered by warranty, it will be replaced at no charge. You will also be compensated a flat labor rate for the cost of mounting the replacement tire.

Steel Lug Nut Inserts

This aluminum wheel comes with steel inserts in the lug nut wells. The inserts are pressed into the aluminum, and they help prevent the holes from wearing down over time. This ensures that the wheel stays secured to your trailer hub and that you won't have to constantly retorque the lug nuts.

Castle Rock Radials

Castle Rock Tread Close-Up

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the tread on these Castle Rock radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Castle Rock tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Castle Rock radials are constructed with double steel belts and double nylon cords. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Review of Castle Rock Trailer Tires and Wheels - ST225/75R15 LR D Radial Black Aluminum - CR99ZR

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Castle Rock ST225/75R15 Load Range D Radial Trailer Tire with this 15-inch Black Eagle aluminum wheel with an 8 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now this tire and wheel assembly is going to be great for your RVs, campers, and trailers. This special trailer tire or ST tire has sturdy sidewalls so that it can handle heavy loads. It is created specifically for trailers, and it's not intended for use on other vehicles. Now as you probably know, radial ply tires are great for highway use and this radial tire is constructed with double steel belts and double nylon plies for increased durability.

Nylon tread-firming belt overlays help prevent tread separation. And the tread wear indicator is gonna make it easy to see tread depth. And we also have siping on the tire tread channels that's going to help channel the water away from the tire to improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions. So as I said at the beginning of our time together and as we have stamped here on our tire, this is an ST225/75R15 tire. The section width is 8.78 inches.

The outer diameter is 28.3 inches. This is a Load Range D tire, meaning it has an 8 ply rating. The maximum load is 2,540 pounds at 65 psi. And this tire has a speed rating of L, indicating a maximum speed of 75 miles per hour. Now this aluminum wheel is durable, it's lightweight, it's rustproof.

It does feature this Eagle Series 6-spoke split design in this really nice matte black finish. It does have an automotive-grade clear coat finish on the front to protect the wheel from scuffs and scratches. And the steel inserts that are pressed in the lug nut wells are going to help keep this wheel securely in place on your trailer hub, preventing the holes from wearing down and eliminating the need for the constant re-tightening of your lug nuts. Now the dimensions of this rim, looking at the diameter first, measuring bead seat to bead seat, is 15 inches. The width of this wheel is six inches.

And our bolt pattern, as we mentioned, is 8 on 5-1/2 inches. Now in case you don't know, the first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes, and the second number is the diameter in inches of the circle on which the bolt holes sit. So to determine the bolt circle diameter on wheels with an even number of bolt holes as we have here on this wheel, you're simply going to measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the bolt hole directly across from it. The wheel capacity is 2,830 pounds. The wheel stud size is 1/2-inch by 20. The center cap is sold separately, but if you decide to pick one up, you just wanna make sure that it fits a pilot diameter of 4.25 inches. Now this tire and wheel assembly does meet the Department of Transportation specifications. This tire meets the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards specifications. And the wheel meets the SAE J1204 standards. One final note, this tire and wheel assembly does come with complimentary roadside assistance for two years. So if your RV or trailer has a flat tire, simply call their helpline and a technician will come and change the flat for you. You can call them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from anywhere here in the United States, Puerto Rico, or Canada. Well, that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope that our time together was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
