What Size Hitch Is On A 2007 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer And What Cargo Carrier Or Trailer Will Work

Can you tell me what size hitch my car most likely has? I drive a 2007 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. I am thinking about either a platform cargo carrier or a small trailer.

Your 2007 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer could have either a 1-1/4 inch hitch or a 2 inch hitch. You will need to measure the size of the receiver opening on the hitch to make sure what size you have.
You might also see if there is a label on your hitch that will list the Gross Towing Weight and the Tongue Weight for your hitch. This will let you know the maximum weight that your hitch is rated for, which will help you choose what cargo carrier or trailer you should use. The towing weight and tongue weight capacities will also be listed in your owners manual.
The 1-1/4 inch hitch will come in two different Classes. The Class I hitch is rated for 2,000 lbs. towing weight capacity and 200 lbs. tongue weight. The Class II hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs. towing weight capacity and 300 or 350 lbs. tongue weight.
Also a 1-1/4 inch Class II hitch accessory will not fit in all 1-1/4 Class I hitches because it has a longer shank. This keeps you from overloading a Class I hitch. This has been changed and a lot of Class I hitches no longer limit the accessories like they used to. If your hitch has a weld stop inside the receiver tube then it's definitely a Class I and it won't allow a Class II accessory.
The Tow Ready Cargo Carrier, # 63155, you have referenced is for a Class II 1-1/4 inch receiver. It has a weight capacity of 300 lbs.
The 2 inch hitch is a more common hitch, so there are more selections available on cargo carriers for a 2 inch hitch. Also, since the towing capacity for a 2 inch hitch is greater the choice is better on trailers also.
