Cargo Carrier Availability That Would Allow Rear Tailgate to Open on Jeep Wrangler
Question:
Have a jeep wrangler. Did the measuring and have 9 inches from center of receiver pin hole to outermost part of tire. This carrier should work. Question is when putting carrier together can the curved shank that attaches to the carrier be put on so it lowers the carrier instead of raising it? This would make it possible to open the tailgate. If the curved shank is not part of the hinge seems like it is possible.

Expert Reply:
You could go with a carrier that sits lower (5-1/2 inches from shank to top of rails), like part # C18151 that does not have any rise built into the shank that could possibly allow the rear tailgate to open.
You would need to measure from the top of the hitch opening to the bottom of the rear tailgate door. If that dimension is more than 5-1/2 inches then this carrier would clear.
