Pump Runs Continuously on Cargo Towing Solutions HydraStar Actuator # HBA16
Question:
We have had about 5 HBA16 brake modules on units with Dexter HD 10,000 lb axles and disc brakes with an issue in time that the pump will run continuously. The only way to get it to stop is unhook the on board battery and the breakaway battery. All these units have had a 12-volt batteries on board to run either a dump or hydraulic jacks. We have tried everything-finally installed kill switches to reset the system. We should not have to do this. Any suggestions

The wiring configuration for the Cargo Towing Solutions HydraStar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator # HBA16 is listed in the instructions which are linked for you. The black wire connects to the 12V supply from the vehicle; the blue wire receives the braking signal from the in-cab controller; the white wire connects to the tow vehicle ground; and the 4th wire (yellow or blue-with-white-stripe) connects to the COLD side of the breakaway switch.
If you find that your pump runs continuously you'll first want to check your wiring and refer to the troubleshooting section on page 8 of the instructions. You'll need a multimeter like # PT89ZR to check for the proper 8.5 volts on the black wire. Testing steps are outlined to help you determine if your unit is actually malfunctioning.
