Weight Distribution System for Use with Draw-Tite Class III Hitch # 75714 on 2014 Nissan Quest
Question:
I purchased part 75714 from you for my 2014 Nissan Quest and have installed it - good product. I am now considering purchasing a Viking 17FQ RV with a tongue weight of 298 lbs and a dry weight of 2,731 lbs. Dealer recommended a weight distribution system for this trailer. Which one would you recommend given the vehicle and tow bar that I have installed? Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:
The particular Class III Draw-Tite hitch that you referenced, part # 75714, is not rated for use with a weight distribution system. This is noted in our product specs for this hitch.
Of the three Class III hitches offered for your 2014 Nissan Quest (please see the link provided for you) only one hitch, the Curt # C13078, is rated for use with weight distribution. Its tongue weight capacity becomes 500-lbs and its towing capacity becomes 5000-lbs with a system installed.
In general a weight distribution system is called for when one or more specific conditions apply - such as your headlights pointing upward when the trailer is hitched. The linked article on weight distribution explains the details about such systems and the second article explains how to measure your trailer's fully-loaded total effective tongue weight, which is the critical factor when choosing a weight distribution system.
