Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Installed on 2018 Rogue. Easy install. Works well for my intended purposes. I use it for storage and transportation racks. It is a little off center, but I don't use it for towing.

@Jr We're glad to hear that! What do you use the # e98846 hitch for?

by: 06/28/2023

Quality product that appears to be well-made.
Shipping
container could have been more sturdy (it busted through the box in three places).
Install instructions were simple but helpful (socket sizes to remove the tow hook bolts and install the tow hitch, extension, how to remove the plastic retainers).
Install was very easy and I didn't need to unhook the exhaust as suggested by the instructions. Only a small amount of trimming was necessary for the rock guard to fit around the hitch.

2016 Nissan Rogue

The parts look great and fits the car perfectly. Had a test drive with a 2 bicycle rack mounted and it was perfect. The package was damaged in some areas upon delivery and some color damage was showing at 2 spots (minor). The installation video was very helpful and made the installation an easy job

Shipping isn't the greatest. I understand that it is a 40ish pound metal, but packaging could be better. Returned the 1st one sent and got another one, but even then there was another hole in the package.

Customer service was quick to send me another one and I loved how quick it was.

Currently live in AZ so chipping in the paint doesn't matter since there isn't a big rust issue. But will be moving to WI soon and some places still use salt. Don't want rusting already.

Saw some minor paint chipped areas on the 2nd one sent. Not as bad as the first one sent.

Not sure why they used a 19mm for the new bolts. Was annoyed that the old ones was 18mm and then swapped to 19mm.

Easy installation. Forgot the name of the piece but think it was a elbow socket, so I didn't even need to waste my time taking off the exhaust.

Had some left over green spray paint so I used that to spray over the chipped areas instead of wasting $ on black paint.

Overall, not sure if I would go with etrailer again for my trailer needs. Loved how fast customer service worked to resolve my issue. Packaging needs to be better. It's a hitch receiver, a piece of metal... not much to say about it except I hope the ugly spray job prevents rust! I mean it will rust eventually, just don't want the life span of it to be less.

by:

My overall assessment of the product is that it meets the basic requirements, but there are some notable issues with its packaging and alignment. Like others have pointed out, the packaging was insufficient considering the weight of the product, leading to concerns about its integrity during shipping. Additionally, there was an alignment issue with the third bolt hole on the driver's side, which was not mentioned in the installation videos on etrailer.com. While the website suggests bending and flexing the product to address this, I believe such modifications shouldn't be expected from customers, and it reflects poorly on etrailer's quality control.

Given these concerns, I'll primarily be using the product for lighter applications like a bike rack or cargo rack. However, I'm apprehensive about the reliability of the third bolt. If I happen to be in the vicinity of etrailer in St. Louis, I might consider visiting them to rectify the issue. Other than this, I was happy with the process and the product.

by:

The hitch was very easy to install! However, I could only get 4 of the 5 bolts to work. The fifth bolt hole (driver side closest to the front) half covered the hole in the frame.). I only bought it to haul our bicycles so this should be fine but I wouldn’t try it under full load.

by:

Perfect fit didn't have to remove anything on the car just 5 bolts and i was ready to go. Also best price online and exceptional quality. This is the 2nd hitch i have purchased from etrailer for different cars and will be coming back if need anymore.

by:

Fairly easy to install, even for a 64 year, like me. Just had a little trouble with the bolt holes being rusty on drivers' side and passenger side had a plate I had to remove.

by:

If it weren’t for careless shipping (or maybe substandard packaging) I’d be much happier! There were four places where the Diana’ finish was scratched down to bare metal. This means, before I can even install it, I’m going to have to paint it so it doesn’t rust in those places. I’m stunned that there was so little packaging or protection besides the outer cardboard box and two, thin wrappings around the frame. The hitch may function great…after $7.50 in paint and an hour of my time.

2018 Nissan Rogue

Amazingly quick delivery...a couple days. One piece so pretty simple, actually it won't go on wrong. Still tricky lining up holes and holding it in place for bolts...definitely a two man job (and one fairly strong, holding it in place). Only real challenge was removing and reinstalling the rubber/plastic covers from the vehicle. Very heavy duty, haven't towed yet but looks like the car will fail before the hitch does!

Great! Simple but not necessarily easy to install...had to move a few things under car around, but with neighbors help, AOK.

by:

I've had this hitch on my vehicle for over a year and still holding strong. No rust at all. I highly recommend this hitch.

2018 Nissan Rogue (not the Sport model). Perfect fit. Hidden well. Will order again from etrailer for my next car.

I use a longer ball mount to ensure trailer clears the bumper. For the electrical I purchased the Nissan wiring harness and cut the end off instead of going through the floor of the car (not a good idea in my opinion). Instead I used the connector portion that came from etrailer and hang it out the hatch when needed (also avoids the weather wear).

2019 Nissan Rogue

Excellent product; fit my 2019 Rogue exactly as described in the very helpful video; had no problem installing the hitch which took about 30 minutes (the holes lined up perfectly and I didn't even have to jack up the car or put it on a lift); especially satisfied with the expeditious delivery which took about 4 days. I plan to use it with the Swagman XC 2-bike rack platform style that I ordered from etrailer to carry my wife's and my bikes on vacation trips.

Works out great. Im very satisfied with both the receiver &amp the rack.

by:
Nissan Rogue

This receiver was hands down the best investment into our rogue we ever made. It paid for itself by allowed us to save on moving cross country with my bike attached to our car. Shipping pricing was almost double & I was able to keep our bikes with us & secure the entire trip. Now two almost 3 years on the hitch has seen a full range of uses.

Installing from etrailers was perfectly fit to the car. The only challenge was putting bolts into the corroded threaded holes of our car. If I could have put this trailer hitch on the day we bought our car, I would have. Cleaning the holes out was as simple as a wire brush attachment to my drill & some like machine oil to clean the rusted dust out the factory holes.

I haven’t done a full weight test but I was able to pull my small mower trailer around our farm. This is by far our best investment to our little car & we’re now ordering roof rack accessories for our next vehicle.

by:

Fantastic quality, looks great on vehicle and have towed over 50 times, way to go etrailer, home run on design and functionality

by:

Excuse the dark picture but I installed the hitch by myself as soon as I got home when I saw that it had been delivered. Hitch receiver is very well made and high quality. Everything aligned perfectly and it looks awesome installed. The only thing visible is the receiver tube. Absolutely cannot beat this hitch for the price. Thank you etrailer!

Its been a year and everything that I said previously still stands. I use my hitch every weekend and it has held up to everything.

by:

This was my first purchase from etrailer and first of all, the website is full of good resources including installation videos. My car model had few options for bike racks so I went with the hitch. I was unsure how the installation would go but I was able to do it myself thanks to the video. The hitch looks great as it doesn't stick out at all. I'm very happy with the purchase.

2012 Nissan Rogue

The trailer hitch receiver for my 2012 Rogue was easy to install. We did not need to drop the muffler. The holes lined up perfectly. The only problem we had was removing the rust from the exposed weld nuts to attach the hardware on the driver's side.
Fast Delivery- received it before expected

Thank you for your review. Here are some helpful tips for cleaning weld nuts:

by:

The product arrived on time and fit my car perfectly. The installation video was also very helpful. I have also attached a bike rack to it without any issues. I will say I had one slight problem that I read in some of the other reviews. I had to trim the plastic underbody cover on the drivers side near the exhaust. It is the only way it will fit with the hitch attached.

by:

Looks nice feels solid and installs simply. This hitch is exactly what I needed for the bike carrier I use and couldn’t be happier. Installed on my 2008 Nissan Rogue with my only troubles being the rogues frame being a little crusty making the bolts tough to screw in on the left side. Nothing brute strength and spray lube couldn’t handle though. Did not need to move the exhaust or modify anything as it fit perfectly.

2012 Nissan Frontier

Hitch was exactly what I ordered and only took just over a week to get it. Nice, heavy, powder coat hitch with all the necessary nuts and bolts. Definitely going to need a second set of hands installing this. Only minor complaint was the hitch had ripped through the side of the box in transfer and was sticking out a few inches, but that was more an issue with the manufacturer's packaging. Still didn't affect the hitch and was in perfect condition. Will definitely be using them for the next hitch for my other vehicle.

2012 Nissan Rogue

I was nervous about installing this thing myself because I don't have a way to lift the car up. But it's all near the rear, so I was able to get my head under and install it with the help of a friend. It's surprisingly easy, and as another review said, not necessary to remove the muffler--it's a little tight, but doable with a ratchet extension. Great product at the lowest price I found.

Nissan Rogue

The etrailer hitch is a great looking, sturdy hitch that is simple to install. I backed up our Rogue onto oil change ramps to give myself a little more room to work, but even that is not entirely necessary. The only problem was a defective factory weld nut on the passenger side (not the hitch's fault) that made it a bear to remove one of the bolts for the factory tow plate and install the new bolt for the hitch. But with some effort and a long enough ratchet, we can now carry our bikes.

A couple installation tips:
- You'll need a 5" or longer socket extension to reach the bolts, especially on the passenger side.
- You don't have to lower the exhaust.
- Despite what the instructions say, you CAN replace the appearance panels. (Not required, but I hate having extra parts when I'm done.) The passenger-side panel is easy to reinstall.
- The driver's side appearance panel needs to have a rectangle cut out of it to fit around the hitch, 3 3/8" wide starting 3" up from the bottom of the flat part, with a small triangular notch in the corner. (See photo.) You can cut the plastic with a sturdy pair of kitchen shears. You'll need to work it a little bit to get around the exhaust pipe, but then just clip it back into place.

  • Will A Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier Affect The Rear Automatic Braking System On A 2019 Nissan Rogue?
Yes, we have had issues in the past with trailer hitches and accessories affecting the Rear Automatic Braking system on the 2019 Nissan Rogue. Basically it will detect the hitch and carrier and may cause the brakes to activate while you are backing up. We have not found a work around as of yet. Your best bet would be to contact a Nissan Dealership to see if they know of a way to bypass or deactivate this sensor.
