If you are looking for an easy way to haul your expensive gear, slap this premium Yakima sport trailer on your hitch and you're ready to Rack and Roll.

Rear view of Yakima Rack and Roll trailer with 66" crossbars

This high-performance, lightweight Rack and Roll trailer comes with a pair of adjustable, 66" Yakima crossbars for mounting boats, bikes and cargo boxes for covered storage - whatever you need. The round crossbars slide along tracks to adjust to your load, and they accept all Yakima roof-rack accessories - it's like having a tow-behind roof rack with all the capability and versatility of a standard Yakima rack. The difference here is that, with the trailer's conveniently low loading height, you don't have to lift your gear over your head to store it.

Rack and Roll adjustable shock absorbers

Rack and Roll holds up to 250 lbs and coddles your gear with fully independent, adjustable shock absorbers. The suspension has 4 inches of wheel travel for exceptional highway performance, cushioning your gear and keeping the trailer from going "airborne" over rough terrain.

Rack and Roll trailer stowed uprightRack and Roll rear rollers

The versatile trailer is easy to store when not in use, with a variety of options for keeping it tucked away in your garage. The tongue and wheels remove easily with stainless steel pins to make the trailer more compact. The trailer can be stored upright or hung on the garage wall by the crossbars. The rear section of the frame features two integrated rollers to make moving the trailer laterally effortless.

Standard 4-way light connector for Rack and Roll trailer

A standard, 4-way flat, black rubber connector is included for connecting your lights to the towing vehicle. The trailer connector has three male pins and one female pin. The vehicle's flat-4 connector should have one male pin (exposed ground) and three female connections (live circuits for stop, turn and running lights).

Rack and Roll trailer locking lever

The trailer frame includes a locking lever that secures your hitch tongue to the trailer frame.

Rack and Roll carrying handle

An integrated carrying handle is mounted near the coupler to make it easier to place the trailer on the hitch ball. The handle also turns your trailer into a handcart that is easy to maneuver while it's unhitched from your vehicle.

The trailer can carry one boat up to 17' long or two 16'-long boats. Add the Rack and Roll Tongue Extension Kit (Y08109) - sold separately - to increase the capacity to one 22'-long boat or two 21'-long boats.

You can also store the trailer without removing the tongue and wheels by adding the Rack and Roll Kickstand (Y08115) - sold separately.

The trailer is constructed from anodized aluminum and features custom-cast, polished aluminum alloy wheels.

The trailer works with Class I, II and III hitches with a 2" ball installed. The ball should be mounted 22" from the ground for optimum performance. To ensure the best fit, use a ball mount with the proper drop or rise to modify the height of your receiver.

Most states require that you register your Rack and Roll trailer. All paperwork necessary for registering your trailer is provided by Yakima. Take the documents to your Department of Motor Vehicles and you will be issued a license plate.

For the trailer 5/5, for the total experience 3/5, so 4 overall. Love the trailer now that it is assembled. Arrived pretty beat up packaging, internal parts bag was broken open.n One of the wheel axles was missing a snap washer, the license plate light bulb connectors were damaged, and one of the orange indicator trailer light bulbs did not work. Got the trailer assembled anyway.

Had to get a replacement snap washer for the wheel axle, no metrics available, had to modify a 1/2 inch washer to fit.

License plate light plugs were damaged, bent them to fit with needle nose pliers (photo attached)

Orange indicator light burnt out bulb, replaced from local auto parts store (photo attached).

etrailer: I would like a replacement wheel axle, with all the factory components pleas; and a replacement license plate light bulb.

Overall love the trailer, it will get lots of good use.

Great! Very easy to load, light so it can be moved by hand to whatever tight spot you need it. I did get a flat tire once, ran over a fish hook at a camp site. Might want to carry a spare.

@Tim We offer a spare tire as part # Y8880282

Have been using the trailer. Fantastic . No longer requiring a ladder to place kayaks on truck racks. (that process became dangerous) Fits in my garage along with 2 cars and a truck. Very compact. Trails wonderfully on the open road. Everything arrived as expected. Instructions along with the package picture made the assembly very easy. Recommend ordering the kickstand as well. Even ordered the spare tire.
Next will be fitting carriers for 2 bikes.

etrailer has great customer service, tracking and service. Definitely recommend.

Outstanding! Should have purchased years before. Totally beats trying to load on top of pickup.

by:

Etrailer service and ordering was great. Assembly was a simple and fun process. We bought this trailer to accommodate our 20' kayak (and our 14' boats, too). So *much* easier than getting them up to the roof rack! Now, loading and unloading is a snap, both at home and at the water. The trailer itself is ultra-light, easy to move manually, and certainly tows with no trouble.

I stand by my 5-star rating for this product: still in the best shape, functions perfectly I was going to say without a hitch but . . . , no problems whatsoever. Great product.

by:

I just got the product today and can only rate it on putting it together and storage.
Putting it together was simple enough, even though there seemed to be a couple of cases where I was scratching my head at the instructions, but that was mostly me not being used to the trailer-vocabulary. I don't recall anything troublesome or tricky. Probably took me 1.5 hrs with a couple of breaks. I feel like most of my time was unpacking everything.

Storage was awesome. A few ways to do it. I chose the one where you take the wheels off.

I plan on using this for my Hobie mirage revolution 11 kayak, also getting the yakima basket for it, and maybe that tongue stand. The build quality seems really solid, and the parts are nice.

by:

The Yakima Rack N Roll trailer arrived on time and in perfect condition. Etrailer offered a great price and delivered. I'll definitely use their site in the future.

by:

etrailer was great to work with and kept us notified about shipping status. The trailer arrived when promised, went together easily. looks great and we look forward to using it this spring to haul our two kayaks.

by:

Great trailer and service from etrailer. Easy to build, looks nice (often complimented) and easily carries 2 Eddyline kayaks. Stable & safe on highway at 70-75mph. Overall - love it.

by:

Very happy with the 66" trailer. etrailer support was excellent, shipping fast and free.
Chose etrailer because of the three reputable online retailers, etrailer had the best reviews, expert advice and information.
Trailer assembly went well with some minor problems.
Good stuff first: The frame member fabrication was excellent: welds, holes, alignment, fit, perfect anodize and paint finishes, labels, mechanical parts, wheels, lights, exactly enough fasteners, good instructions. Fenders are 5/32" white plastic, hope the plastic has UV inhibitors as only the topsides are painted.

Minor Problems:
Black plastic lever lock: The tongue slides into the center frame tube, and when installed there is a pin and locking lever. That lever would not close, because the lock was not quite centered on the frame tube. The off center caused the lock shank to hit the right edge of the frame tube hole. Easy fix for this was to file the side of the aluminum frame tube hole enough for the lock shank to fit and lever close flat against tube. Only had to file the frame tube hole; tongue hole was ok. Photos of filed hole and closed lock, below.

Black plastic lever lock key: One of three black plastic lever locks, the one for left wheel block, had a stubborn lockset. It locked ok, but then would not unlock. I finally realized the key had to be pushed down into the lockset keyhole very hard in order to unlock. Same problem for all 6 keys furnished with trailer. Glad I found the key insertion solution before trying to turn force-turn the key with pliers, which would have bent the key or broke the lock.
Wiring problems: I expected with all the negative reviews of wiring, Yakima would have perfected their wiring. Nope, I had different problems than many past reviewers. The wiring problems were absolutely unnecessary / silly things that Yakima could easily have solved by simple quality control. Once together all lights worked good.
First wiring problem was the right front, plug in plastic wiring connector had a warped female side. Looked like it was heat warped. Photo. I was able to squeeze the plastic back to the correct shape with a large crescent wrench and then plug in the male end. Now I hope the plastic doesn’t develop stress cracks. The three other similar connectors had perfect shape and plugged in nicely.

Second wiring problem involved the four plastic mount brackets that hold the plastic wiring connectors in place, on the frame tubes. The four wiring connectors are made to slide into the four plastic mounts. All four mounts had two problems. First, all four mounts were installed backwards, making it impossible to insert the wiring connectors. Second, all four mounts were screwed onto their aluminum frame member with a button head screw. These button heads were too tall and would not allow the plugs to slide into their mounts. I replaced each button head screw with a countersunk flat head screw, and also reversed the mount’s direction. Luckily my flat head screw threads did not strip the aluminum tubes. Photos below shows mounts backward orientation and button head screws, and then show the corrected orientation with flat heads. Yakima, wake up, such a beautiful trailer should not have such silly problems!!

Shipping: The trailer shipped by UPS, got here in 5 days with no damage to boxes. The title shipped separately by USPS, and got here in 6 days. Not knowing about separate shipping, after assembling the trailer, I spent an hour searching thru my cardboard box scrap pile for the title. Not there, now what?! I emailed, then called etrailer to find the title was shipped separately. Golly, it would be so easy for etrailer to tell buyers, up front, that the title ships separately. Buyers should not have to wonder “where’s the *# title!?”.
All in all, etrailer and Yakima lived up to their reputation for excellence (trivial issues aside). I expect the trailer will perform well and last decades, like my old Yakima roof and receiver racks.
I got a spare tire/wheel, and will probably also get a pair of spare spare axles. And will eventually buy the tongue kickstand, although a 5 gallon plastic bucket with 2x4 laid on top, makes a good tongue stand. The trailer tongue weight, unloaded, is 24#s; kickstand will probably make it 29#s. Photos below. Will send photo of my 17' Wenonah canoe later.

love this trailer for our canoe, ducky kayak, and often both stacked. no more backaches as when we used to carry canoe and ducky on the roof. everyone that sees trailer at the river , lake loves it same at stoplights. wow, where did you get that is the typical comment. springs are independant and give very smooth, quiet ride so much better than the kit and Malone trailers we used in past for our raft. also stores in garage so easy with and without wheels. would sent photo of stacked canoeducky and storage, but no box on this 1 yr review platform to send photos.

by:

This trailer went together without any difficulties. The boxes arrived rather beat up by the UPS and some minor parts had fallen out somewhere during the delivery; but the folks at e-trailer immediately sent replacements without a hassle. The trailer is exactly as advertised and the quality is unsurpassed. I would make the same purchase again without hesitation.

After one year, I am still impressed with my Yakima Kayak Trailer. I have discovered many different ways to carry kayaks, and my rather large inflatable dinghy, with motor. It stores easy and out of the way in my garage and every single part works as if new,,,lights included.

by:

The trailer is fantastic but the website needs work. You show the kickstand along with the wiring, etc as standard equipment and I was disappointed that it was not included in the price. To charge an extra $XX for it is ridiculous especially since I spent $XXXX for the trailer….
Don’t show it if it is optional!….yes in the embedded details, your website says its optional. Not good enough.

by:

The trailer has performed exactly as promised. We use it to haul two hard-shell Dagger kayaks (Katanas) to rivers and lakes in western Montana. It is far superior than our older routine requiring lifting the kayaks onto the roof rack of one of our SUVs. The trailer tracks extremely well and it is easy to forget that you are towing it if you aren't careful. The removable tongue allows us to store it on-end in our garage during the winter months. It is quickly made road-ready in the spring; takes no more than 10-15 minutes to make the conversion.

by:

This trailer is perfect for what I needed. I have a kayak but can no longer lift it to the top of my car. Very happy with this purchase.

by:

The Rack and Roll trailer is well built, easy to use and store on end in tight spaces. Additionally not having a fixed axel is really great when hauling small boats or light loads as the trailer is far less jumpy opposed to a solid axel trailer. Coatings could be a bit better if using in salt water environments, however this is a great trailer.

Great, I use the trailer to transport a laser sailboat and when not in use it’s very easy to compact and store. The trailer is reliable and well made

by:

This trailer is perfect for our needs. The 66" bars fit our 3 kayaks easily, and the trailer can be moved by hand without any problem even with the kayaks on it. We keep the kayaks right on the trailer, which along with not having to put the kayaks on top of the car has significantly cut the time needed to prepare for a kayaking trip. This was a great purchase.

by:

One year in and this is a great trailer. Rides great, easy to load, well built and looks great. I carry a restored wood and canvas canoe and a 21’ composite sea kayak - they deserved better than me fighting to get them on my old roof racks. Finally decided to give the trailer a chance and very glad I did.

by:

I hesitated to choose this trailer from Yakima due to price, but research suggested that it is of the highest quality and I found that to be true. It is extremely well engineered and is easy to put together. The instructions are simple and clear.

I can't report road experience with it yet as I'm just getting it licensed, but it looks strong and is very light in weight. The fold-away storage features are a bonus for those with limited garage space. The key connections are pinned in place with precision pins and bow-tie cotters. It really could not be much easier. Well done Yakima. And service at etrailer is great. They communicate and follow up!

by:

Just assembled the trailer and loaded a 16’ Hobie kayak. The trailer is built really well. However I should have ordered the 3’ tongue extension to begin with. In order to get the proper amount of weight on the tongue the kayak needs to sit more forward than I can get it now. Also for multiple kayaks (loaded off center) you need a good bit of clearance so you don’t strike the rear of the vehicle during tight maneuvers. The extension is on order.
I’ll update after I towed with it, but I expect no problems with it.

by:

Best way to transport two recumbent trikes or multiple bikes. Very flexible in providing options to mount and secure everything quickly and easily.

by:

Love my Yakima trailer. Best method yet to transport two recumbent trikes or multiple bikes.

by:

Pulls great. I am concerned about locking mechanism being easy to pick. Watched a you tube video that tells you how to pick Yakima locks :-0! Hope you work on this

by:

Very efficient & professional, would order from them again

by:

Recently purchased and put together rack and roll trailer, The product arrived on time and in great shape. The build was easy if you followed the video, the written directions not a great help. I am mechanically challenged but ill still managed. I have used a friends trailer (same kind) so I know it works great just need my tag and then I'm off fishing.

by:

A ++++ Service and communication. Love the trailer!!

Great purchase & wonderful customer service! Thank you!

  • Difference Between Curt Class III # C13145 and # C13280 for a 2003 Dodge Dakota
The primary differences between the Curt # C13280 and # C13145 are cosmetic. The C13280 would be mainly concealed behind the rear bumper, while the C13145 would be visible. The hitches have identical capacities, so either would work great from a functional standpoint. Because there's not an important difference between the two, I'd personally choose the C13280 because of its lower cost. It just so happens we offer a small trailer designed for carrying kayaks and other items that would...

The Heavy Duty Shocks for Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer # Y08110 do increase the capacity of your trailer from 250 lbs to 350 lbs so if you need that extra capacity, the HD shocks are what you'll need. That said, if you are just in the 100...

  • Recommendations for Carrying 4 Kayaks on a 2017 Ford Escape
Carrying 4 kayaks on a vehicle roof is going to require a special type of carrier and the kayaks would have to be carried on their sides directly on roof rack crossbars. The first thing you will need is a roof rack that includes crossbars that run side to side if your 2017 Ford Escape does not already have one. I have included a link to the roof rack main page for your vehicle. There are 2 roof options listed, not existing rails or crossbars and factory raised rails. Choose the type that...

  • What Trailer Can Hold 14-1/2 Foot Canoe
Not a silly question at all, though I verified with Malone that the maximum length of boat is 14 feet for the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer # MAL53FR, so you'd need a different option for your 14-1/2 foot canoe. There are two different trailers that will work for your canoe length: - Malone MicroSport Trailer # MPG460G - Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer # Y08106 The MicroSport is able to carry a boat up to 20 feet, while the Rack and Roll can carry up to a 16 foot boat. The MicroSport has...

  • Will the Yakima Rack and Roll Work with a Rooftop Tent
I don't see any reason the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer part # Y08106 could not be used for a rooftop tent. The crossbars are adjustable, they are a standard size, and it has an adequate weight capacity. I think most people would like to be off the ground a bit more but I don't think there will be any fit issues with most rooftop tents using the Rack and Roll.

  • Are Malone 2 Tier LowBed MicroSport Trailer Rear Crossbars Below Fender
That's an excellent question, and you've got a good eye because the crossbars are about an inch lower than the fenders on the Malone 2 Tier LowBed MicroSport Trailer - 78" Crossbars # MPG464-LBT. So if you wanted to lay lumber completely flat you would not be able to, but for things like kayaks it wouldn't be an issue because you could mount them with the Bunk Kit for Malone Trailers - 1 Kayak # MPG561 and they would have plenty of height to go over the fenders. If you really did want...

  • Fit of Yakima Skybox 18 Cargo Box # Y07336 on 2014 Jeep Wrangler 4-Door Hard Top
The Yakima roof rack you referenced, their round bar system consisting of parts # Y00409 and # Y00101, when mounted on your 2014 Jeep Wrangler 4-Door hard top has only a very limited weight capacity. This is due to the fact that the drip rails on the hard top are not structural to the vehicle; they cannot support the weight load of even an empty Skybox 18 cargo box, part # Y07336, which weighs 52-lbs without any cargo loaded. Also, the Skybox 18 requires a crossbar spread of 24 - 42 inches...
