Video Transcript for Review of TorkLift - Battery Boxes - TLA7715

Today we're gonna take a look at the TorkLift 8 amp regulator for TorkLift PowerArmor solar battery boxes. Now this is going to help to make sure that your solar panels don't overcharge the battery in your TorkLift PowerArmor box. It's going to make sure that everything stays charging properly, prevents any overloading. It's required for use for boxes that have a single solar panel and house only one battery and it's recommended for use with boxes that have two 10 watt solar panels and house up to three batteries or fewer. It's pretty easy to install, will just have three attachment points on the regulator itself between one at the top, two at the bottom, and we get the hardware and some isolators to get that installed. We'll get four screws and four isolators and we'll also get two zip ties to get all our wiring tidied up.The end of our wiring for the battery connection is gonna have that J style connector, so we will need to get a J style to connect up to our batteries, or you do have the option of just cutting this off and then wiring it in yourself if you feel comfortable with doing that kind of wiring. And then on the ends for our solar panel, those are gonna have the other end of that J style connector and that's gonna match right up to our solar panels from TorkLift. They'll have the matching end, which is gonna look similar to this, to just plug in and go to work.

So we'll have our two ends for our solar panel so we can get that connected to up to two solar panels, and then our one connection for our battery. Now the length of our wire for the battery is gonna be about 60 inches long, or about five feet, so it should be a good amount of length to get that connected up. And then the length for our solar panels is about 11 inches. We go to kind of the end of the connectors there where the wire'd be coming in.The box itself is about four inches long by about two and a half inches wide and it's about an inch deep. So pretty easy to install. If you're looking for the solar power kits for the TorkLift PowerArmor battery box, we do have those available as well, and those are gonna be part number TLA7713, and you can find those right here at etrailer.com.This product is made in the U.S.A.

and has a one year limited warranty from TorkLift. And that's gonna do it for our look at the TorkLift 8 amp regulator for TorkLift PowerArmor solar battery boxes.

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring for Solar and Vehicle Charged Trailer Batteries with Inverter
I can absolutely help you with this trailer. First, I recommend using the 7-Way Molded Trailer Plug with Junction Box # HS381-9000 along with ring terminals # 44-5310A. This will easily allow you to convert your 4-way wiring and also add your trailer brakes using # 10-1-1. Then you can use the 10 inch # AKEBRK-35-SA for the 4 hole mounting flange or 12 inch # AKEBRK-7-SA brake assemblies for the 5 bolt mounting flange. For your charging your trailer batteries from your vehicle, I recommend...

  • Solar Panel Battery Charger Recommendation for Enclosed Cargo Trailer
A solar panel would work well for you with this application. I recommend the Solar Power Kit from Torklift # TLA7713. This is a 10 watt panel that will maintain the charge to boost the life of your battery and bring a battery back from 50-percent life. We recently installed this solar panel on a trailer to maintain the charge on a battery. I have attached a review and installation video of this solar panel for you. If you plan on using this solar panel with a single battery, you will...

  • Recommendation for Adding Trailer Battery and Charge Line From Vehicle to 4-Way Trailer Connection
For your enclosed snowmobile trailer with 4 way wiring, you will need to upgrade your connection to run a battery charge. I recommend you splice your connections and use the Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Kit - Vehicle and Trailer Ends - Ergonomic Design # HM47890. That 5th pin will be your battery charge line. You will want to run # 10-1-1 wire from your vehicle battery to a 40 amp circuit breaker # 9510 and then run that to your vehicle side 5-way. Then on the trailer...

  • How to Charge & Maintain Trailer-Mounted Battery on Dump Trailer
7-way vehicle wiring can deliver a maintenance charge to keep a charged trailer battery at full charge while you're driving but it will not be able to deliver enough current to re-charge a depleted battery. That will require a shore-power charger like one of the CTEK units, such as # CTEK56353. Another option is a solar panel charger like # TLA7713 which works continuously as long as light is available. For use with one battery you'll also need a 8-amp regulator, part # TLA7715. This...

  • Using TorkLift Solar Power Kit # TLA7713 with Two 6 Volt Batteries
The Torklift Solar Power Kit # TLA7713 referenced in your question will work with both 6 volt and 12 volt batteries. You will only need to add an 8-amp regulator # TLA7715 if you are planning on using 4 or more batteries and you are connecting two of the TorkLift Solar Panels. Since you are using two 6 volt batteries, you will not need a regulator. I have attached an image that shows the wiring instructions when using two 6 volt batteries that you might also find helpful.

You'd want to install the 8-Amp Regulator for TorkLift PowerArmor Solar Battery Boxes # TLA7715 to the underside of the TorkLift PowerArmor Solar Locking Battery Box # TLA7710RS. • Operation Of The TorkLift PowerArmor Solar Locking Battery Box
I recommend using 2 12V batteries to give you a longer battery life and more amp hours with the TorkLift PowerArmor Solar Locking Battery Box - 6V and 12V Batteries - Diamond Plate Aluminum, # TLA7708RS. When using two batteries, you only need a single 10-watt Solar Panel. If you plan on using one solar panel for each battery, then you would need to use an 8 Amp Regulator # TLA7715 on each to prevent your battery from gassing and over charging. The charge will be higher than the usage...

I can help you figure out a solution to charging your dump trailer's battery while it is connected to your Silverado. I recommend the Solar Power Kit # TLA7713 to charge your dump trailer's battery. This 8 watt solar panel will maintain the charge and boost the life of your battery. • Does TorkLift PowerArmor Solar Locking Battery Box Need Battery Cutoff Switch?
Since you are using a pair of 12 volt batteries you do not need a battery cutoff switch or power regulator to use the TorkLift PowerArmor Solar Locking Battery Box # TLA7708RS. You would only need a regulator such as # TLA7715 if you were using a single battery.

  • Can the Solar Power Kit for TorkLift PowerArmor Be Used Alongside Other Battery Chargers
The risk that you run of charging your batteries with multiple sources at once is overcharging them. This can also be an issue with a single source but not likely with what you mentioned because I would be willing to bet each of these has built-in protection form overcharging save for maybe the 12 volt pin on the 7-way but this most likely won't provide enough amps for this to occur. In summary, you can us the Solar Power Kit for TorkLift PowerArmor Battery Box part # TLA7713 while also...

  • Options for Charging Accessory Battery on Trailer and Making Sure Battery Doesnt Overcharge
If you do not want to disconnect the vehicle connector from the trailer connector when you are not towing, you can install a Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201 on your tow vehicle. This solenoid will shut off the 12V feed from your vehicle battery to your trailer's battery when the vehicle's ignition is off. I have attached a review video of this solenoid for you. I recommend checking to see if your solar charger has a regulator to ensure that the panel doesn't overcharge the battery....

  • Solar Panel and Breakaway System Recommendation for Gooseneck Trailers
For what you are looking for I think the Solar Panel Kit part # TLA7713 would be a great option to put a maintenance charge on the breakaway batteries of your trailers as they sit for extended periods of time. You will also need the regulator part # TLA7715. I attached an install video that shows the panel being installed on a similar trailer battery. The breakaway system part # 20099 would be a great option to as it has a charger built into it. I attached an install video for this as well.

Basically what you are wanting to do is very possible but it really comes down to you picking out the best battery for your application. Which is going to be the biggest one you can find. We do have a solar panel option we can help with. I recommend the Solar Power Kit from Torklift # TLA7713. This is a 10 watt panel that will maintain the charge to boost the life of your battery...
