Video Transcript for Brophy Camper Tie Downs Review

Today we'll be reviewing and showing you how the Brophy Stake Pocket Sliding Camper Tie Downs, part number TDSF, will fit on most trucks. These adjustable stake pocket tie downs will mount permanently in the stake tube of your truck for a tie down that is always ready to use. They have three removable spacer tabs that allow a custom fit for most pickups and a tab lock that anchors the tie down to the truck rail to prevent lifting and twisting. We'll begin our review by showing you how to install it onto our truck. To do this we'll slide the stake of the tie down into the stake pocket of our truck making sure that the black tab is facing the center of the truck bed. The spacer bars may need to be pried off if necessary to fit the size stake pocket of your truck.

Now with the tie down seated firmly in the pocket, we'll drill two 7/32-inch holes through the pocket about four inches from the top. Now for todays demonstration we will not be drilling and permanently securing this stake, but just showing you how to drill the holes and where. We'll then use the two lag bolts to thread into the holes that we just drilled putting pressure onto the stake. We'll now drill an 11/32-inch hole through the anchor tab and install the hex bolt. Now that we have our hole drilled through the bracket, we can move to the underside of the vehicle where you can see plastic paneling near the wheel well.

Removing this will allow you to open up a space for you to reach your hand up to thread on our washer and nut. You may need an extra set of hands when doing this part of the installation. Now with our camper tie down secured to our bed rail of our truck, we'll demonstrate how to tie your camper down with the tie down hardware package, part number TDHP, and we'll do this by taking the turn buckle, setting the chain on the hook on one end of the turn buckle, and then taking one of the s-hooks, putting the small end of the s-hook into the chain. We'll then take the other end of the s-hook and starting from the outside of the tie down which we'll slip into the hole, and with the camper positioned on to the tie downs you can simply turn the cam buckles which can either loosen or tighten to give you the best fit to your camper. Quick Tech Tip: Over-tightening the turn buckles may cause unnecessary stress to the camper and your truck.

That will complete todays review of the Brophy Stake Pocket Sliding Camper Tie Downs, part number TDSF.

These ties downs solved an immediate problem when I bought my new truck bed camper. However, the trim piece on my 2017 Silverado truck bed couldn't withstand the pressure of the camper. The camper was stable but the tie downs moved when tightened. Then of course I forgot to untie and even though I caught it immediately, the trim on the truckbed lifted. I since have read that these ties downs are better for older model trucks. Thus I can say they worked as a immediate solution but it would be a safer system to get the tie downs that connect to the bottom of the truck.

by:

Seems to be good quality. Got these to replace my camper's rachet straps since they're less bulky, stronger, and allow me to tighten the camper down to my truck bed's D-rings better than the rachet straps (since with my particular truck and camper it was difficult to get the access and leverage to truly tighten them as much I wanted, and as a result the camper would drift during travel)

by:

Got here early in the a.m. and on time before heading on a 2 hours trip. Easy install. I hoped the chains would be longer, I had to use 2 longer chains because of the position of the eye bolts on the camper.

Great selection, easy to shop.
One issue
I noticed, is the quality of the screws used to mount the hardware.
It seems that with all the attention given to the actual hardware itself, it only makes sense to have better quality screws, etc.
They were cheap, not of high grade metal, and I had to go replace them.
I'd gladly pay a bit more, to get screws that are as good quality as the hardware.
All in all, though, I was satisfied...even if I had to source the screws myself at a Lowes store near me.

by:

Have not actually used them yet, but they are sturdy and well positioned, and the installation was fairly easy, although I had to grind a very small (less than 1/8') off the bottom of the passenger side plate that goes inside the frame in order to get both bolts in. I don't have a camper yet, but may get the rear tie-downs, depending on size and weight of what I get. Will use bumper brackets for now. I did not think the bed mount type of tie-down would be enough for anything but a very light camper, and the through the bed into the frame type didn't appeal to me much. Not having to drill any holes was a plus, although I would have done it if necessary to get the strength I wanted. Although these tie-downs mount in a somewhat unusual way, I think they will be very functional, strong, and convenient.

by:

I bought this set originally to buy a used camper from out of town and get it home. My plan was to buy something more permanent like Happijac. Once I put these on though, I decided they were plenty strong and would most likely work permanently so I'm going to run with that for a few months and see how they work. I am using spring loaded turnbuckles instead of these though.

They were easy to install and work with the factory bedliner that stops below the bed lip, no drilling is also a bonus.

My camper is a Hallmark popup 8ft long and weighs just under 1800 lbs.

by:

Works perfect for what I needed

by:

Very strong brackets. Bolt holes could use "TWO" (with a little precision tolerance) slots to hold the bolts steady so the Nylock Nut doesn't twist and you have to use an end wrench.
Also, the brackets could be sold in a longer version of length so you can use a Heavier Duty Turnbuckle.
those are my only changes I would like to see. I really do like the versatility of the Brophy Tiedowns.

by:

Overall, very simple and easy to install the Brophy tie downs. The hardware was honestly garbage.. weak grade that undoubtedly would not hold up to this weight and movement. Used heavy duty bolts to secure it to bed rails and stake pocket. So far, 200 miles driven in snow without much movement, but a bit worried about the longevity of the tie downs. This camper will stay permanently in the bed of the truck, so I will throw in some through bolts into the bed of the truck (peace of mind). Turn buckles seem to be good (other than a factory snag that sliced me open). So far happy with the product, could have been made a bit better for an extra cost; I definitely would have paid more for a two sided stake pocket bolt through. With only one tab for mounting to top side of bed rails this seems excessively weak.. do you see the gap in the stake pocket? It was seated when drilling and lagging it down. Started to turn under pressure.

  • Will the Brophy Stake Pocket Mounted Camper Tie Downs Fit a 2007 Dodge Ram SRW 3500
The Brophy Stake Pocket Mounted Camper Tie Downs # TDSF work with most full-size, non-dually pickup trucks with straight fenders and single-wall construction, model years up to and including 2010. I have included a couple diagrams you can take a look at that include measurements so you can verify they will work with your 2007 Dodge Ram SRW 3500, as well as a video that touches on installation. These will also work with truck bed campers with an overall length up to 8'. You will also need...
