Batwing diagram

Batwing installed in use

Perfect for tailgating, outdoor markets, and camping, the Rhino-Rack Batwing provides shade anywhere you take your vehicle. The awning mounts to your Rhino-Rack Pioneer platform or crossbars with top channels. It is supported by built-in telescoping poles that let a single person set it up and break it down in minutes. Made of ripstop, polyester canvas that is resistant to UV rays, water, and mold, the awning swings out 270 degrees from your driver's side to provide you with 118 sq ft of shade. With different awning extensions (sold separately), you can expand the shade coverage or even create an enclosure around your vehicle. The Batwing's 50+ UPF protection has earned it an official endorsement by Cancer Council Australia.

Quick, One-Person Setup

Unfolds to 270 degrees

Using just one motion, the Batwing unfolds 270 degrees from your vehicle's roof to provide 118 sq ft of shade. Just unzip the storage bag, flip the integrated storage pouch containing pegs and guy ropes out of the way, and bring the awning from the side of your vehicle toward the rear. Then, use the integrated tension strap to secure the awning to the back of your roof rack.

Built-in telescoping support poles

The telescoping support poles are built into the awning, which means you don't have to attach each pole separately during setup. Simply unclasp each pole from the built-in clips on the awning and drop them into position. After this, tighten the poles to the necessary height. You can also adjust the poles to different heights to suit any type of terrain, so the awning is always steady and secure.

poles held in place by magnets

When not in use, the poles are held in place by rare earth Neodymium magnets. Just push them toward the frame and they'll automatically secure to the housing.

Secure the poles to the ground using the included metal pegs

After all the poles are set up, anchor them to the ground using the included pegs. The feet have 2 holes built in to let you drive 2 pegs into the ground at opposing sides for enhanced stability.

Hooked guy ropes for maximum tension

To bring the Batwing to maximum tension, attach the hooked guy ropes to the frame and secure them to the ground with the pegs. Using the additional tie-down point in the mid-section of the awning will allow rainwater to easily drain off. As an added benefit, the guy ropes have a bright orange color to improve visibility at night.

Tough, Durable Construction

durable construction

Strong and lightweight, the awning's ripstop, polyester canvas is waterproof, mold resistant, and UV protected. The telescoping poles and awning frame are constructed of aluminum and finished with a black powder coat, so they won't rust or fade when exposed to the weather. When not in use, all the parts are stored inside the heavy-duty PVC storage cover.

cancer council endorsement

The Batwing has earned an endorsement from Cancer Council Australia for its UV protection. It received a 50+ UPF rating during independent testing, meaning it will allow less than 2 percent of effective UV transmission.

Easy, No Drill Installation

Mounts directly to your Rhino Rack rooftop crossbars

The included mounting brackets attach to the channels on the awning's frame and mount to your Pioneer platform or crossbars with top channels. Simply slide the nuts into the channels and tighten them down.

The Batwing will install to Rhino-Rack Heavy-Duty crossbars with a hardware kit (RR33101 - sold separately). To mount it to square and round roof rack crossbars, you will need to purchase a mounting kit (sold separately).

Additional Accessories Available

The Batwing has optional extensions to provide more shade and improve your outdoor experience. All of these extensions easily install by zipping to the outer edges of the awning. And just like the Batwing, they use telescoping poles, guy ropes, and pegs to secure to the ground. They are made of durable, ripstop polycotton canvas which is waterproof, mold resistant, and UV protected.

extension examples

The Batwing can be expanded with the 48 sq ft extension (RR31101 - sold separately). With this extension, you can increase your overhead coverage or make a windbreaker or sidewall.

tapered extension examples

Using the 78-3/4 sq ft tapered extension (RR31112 - sold separately), you can either increase your coverage or form a sidewall. When you integrate 3 more tapered extensions, you can create a full enclosure around your vehicle.

front edge extension in use

Additionally, a front edge insert (RR31124 - sold separately) can square off your Batwing for more coverage area.

integrated channels

In addition to attaching extensions to the awning, the frame itself can hold additional accessories. The awning frame is compatible with channel mount accessories, like the Rhino-Rack shovel holder (RR43103 - sold separately). These accessories attach to the frame using the same channels you use to mount the awning to your roof rack.

  • Will the Rhino Rack Batwing Awning Work with Yakima CoreBar Crossbars
I do have an option for you but the Rhino Rack Batwing Awnings are designed to mount in top channels so they won't work with the Yakima CoreBar Crossbars. Instead, I recommend the Yakima SlimShady Awning part # Y56VR, part # Y36VR, or part # Y96VR which uses wraparound clamps so no top channel is needed. These won't offer as much coverage as some of the Batwing awnings but they are still great options for getting in the shade. If you are set on the Rhino-Rack Batwing Awning like part #...

  • Can the Rhino Rack Batwing Be Mounted on a Yakima Overhaul Adjustable Truck Bed Ladder Rack?
Yes, the Rhino-Rack Batwing Awning Item # RR33400 you were looking at and the Driver's Side item # RR33100, and item # RR33200 Passenger's Side are all compatible with the Yakima HD Crossbars, like item # Y01157. The Batwing uses the top channel on your Yakima bars to attach to them with the included hardware. The Yakima Overhaul systems item # Y01151-58 use Yakima HD Crossbars so you will have no problem with compatibility. I have attached a couple of review videos. The Yakima SlimShady...

  • Maximum Height of Rhino-Rack Batwing Awning
The Batwing Awning # RR33100 has a maximum height of seven feet on level ground, as per the longest height of the telescoping legs, and this is designed in order to accommodate for different heights of vehicles that it will be attached to. The awning comes directly out of the bracket and while there are not any restrictions in terms of angle I don't recommend attempting to mount it in any extreme manner. Could you theoretically mount it so the awning slopes upward (depending on how the...

  • Installing Rhino-Rack Batwing Awning to Roof Rack with Rola Vortex Basket
I may have a solution for you, however you won't be able to use the Mounting Kit # RR31103 to attach your Rhino-Rack Batwing Awning like # RR33100 to the Thule Canyon Roof Rack # TH859XT on your vehicle. The rail design on the side of this basket simply isn't compatible with the hardware used in this kit. Your best option is going to be to slide the Thule basket to one end of your roof and attach the Batwing directly to the crossbars at the other end. As long as your roof rack bars feature...

  • Will RhinoRack Batwing Awning Work with Yakima HD bars
Yes, the Rhino-Rack Batwing Awning Driver's Side # RR33100, or # RR33200 Passenger's Side are compatible with the Yakima HD Crossbars, like # Y01157. The Batwing uses the top channel on your Yakima bars to attach to them with the included hardware. Both the Yakima HD bars and the Rhino-Rack Vortex bars use a 7/16 inch wide top channel, so you'll just want to follow the same instructions as if you were mounting the awning on the Vortex bars. The Yakima SlimShady Awning, # Y36VR has clamps that mount to the cross bars of your roof rack. It can be mounted to either driver or passengers side but does not swivel to mount of the back of the vehicle. You can however add the Rightline Gear SUV Tailgate Awning, # RG44FR that attaches to your hatch door and includes 2 sandbags that keep the canopy's poles planted firmly on the ground, even in windy weather. • Can Rhino Rack Batwing Fit on JCR Roof Rack
I wasn't able to find the exact JCR roof rack you have installed on your truck but if it has top channels on it the Rhino Rack Batwing part # RR33100 would fit it and work great. Basically it comes with mounting hardware that is designed to fit into the top channel of the crossbar.

  • Installation and Operation of Rhino Rack Batwing Awning and Maximum Height
The maximum height of 7ft that was referred to in the question you saw about the Rhino Rack Batwing # RR33100 just refers the length of the telescoping legs. Inevitably some vehicles are taller than this and when you take into consideration the size of the crossbars and side rails, the Batwing can be mounted higher than 7ft off the ground, but it will have a slight downward tilt-which might be helpful in keeping moisture from pooling on it anyways. You're not required to mount it 7ft high...

  • Awning Needed to Fit OEM Roof Rack on Subaru Baja
All of the Rhino-Rack Awnings, like the Batwing Awning # RR33100 you referenced, require that the roof rack has T-Slots to install. I'm not sure what crossbars came on a Subaru Baja but I'm pretty sure that they didn't have the newer style T-Slot so if you are wanting to utilize your current roof rack you need to go with the Thule HideAway Awning # TH490008 with the Adapter Kit # TH490001 as it is the only option that clamps around the roof rack crossbars. • Can I Use a Rhino Batwing Awning with an ARB Base Rack
There is a solution available for you, but the # RR31103 will not work for you. It looks like ARB manufactures a T-slot adapter for their BASE Rack, and the Rhino-Rack Batwing Awning # RR33200 can be mounted into t-slots on a roof rack-which is what this will create for you. We don't offer ARB parts so you would need to source that from them but you could use a Rhino-Rack Batwing (driver's side) # RR33100 or (passenger side) # RR33200, or the Sunseeker # RR32133 awnings in the t-slot mounts.

The Rhino-Rack Batwing Awnings like the Driver's Side # RR33100 that you were looking at require that the crossbars extend past the mounting feet (or raised rail) on a vehicle's roof.
