This Comfort Ride suspension upgrade system greatly improves your towing experience. It serves as an add-on for your leaf spring suspension, and it provides a notably smoother ride, reducing chucking, axle roll-up, and suspension rebound. This means that you'll experience improved handling, even over potholes and uneven pavement. And the contents of your trailer will stay in place during travel.

Gas Shocks Absorb Road Vibration

While traditional leaf springs support your trailer to prevent bottoming out, they don't necessarily provide a comfortable ride. Due to the rigidity of the steel construction, leaf springs do a poor job of absorbing shock and bounce and limiting sway.

Roadmaster Comfort Ride shocks

Adding these shocks to your existing leaf spring suspension offers a better solution. Gas-powered springs inside of the sealed cylinders compress and extend as you drive. The compression and extension of the springs creates enough force to offset the amount of incoming force or vibration that occurs when you tow over rough or uneven terrain. The result is a more comfortable towing experience.

Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers installed

Many trailers will have shocks mounted at around a 40-degree angle, but this positioning doesn't compensate very well for the up-and-down movement of the trailer's suspension. Roadmaster's patented adjustable frame brackets are specifically designed to allow these shocks to be mounted at an optimum angle between 20 and 40 degrees. As a result, these shocks will have the leverage necessary to limit up-and-down and lateral movement during both compression and rebound.

Rigorous Testing Standards

The Comfort Ride shock absorber system has endured rigorous testing to ensure its durability and longevity. This testing includes computerized Finite Element Analysis, which establishes guidelines to ensure superior product quality and safety. Roadmaster also tested these shock absorbers at the Navistar Proving Grounds, a private test facility that provides real-world handling and safety testing. The result is a safe, long-lasting product that you can trust.

Installation

Installation of the Comfort Ride system is fairly straightforward.

The included tie plates replace your existing U-bolt tie plates. You will need to retain your existing U-bolts and nuts for installation. Once the tie plates are installed, bolt the upper mounting brackets to your trailer's frame with the included hardware. Some drilling is required when mounting the brackets to the frame. Finally, attach the shocks between the tie plates and the frame brackets.

Installed a year ago, I made a drilling template to help locate the frame mounting bracket screw holes. Installed a set on (2) fivers, spent average of 2.5 hours for total installation per fiver. Helped the ride of the trailer. Would certainly recommend the shock kit.

by:

This is a great kit! Everything needed is included. Be sure to purchase the heavy duty wet bolt kit for the shackles.

by:

After much research and evaluation I found the Road Master to be my first choice for our 2023 Grand Design Reflection Tandom Axle RV. The engineering, manufacturing and quality is demonstrated in this product. The components are heavy duty with clear instructions. I’ve not had the opportunity to install yet however before we embark on a 2 month tour, I’m confident in this added suspension package to assure a safe, comfortable ride.

Along with the new springs....everything works as advertised. Well satisfied. No complaints.
I had to modify the one set of shock brackets to fit, as I have raised the trailer 5 inches
to match up with the 4 inch raised truck.
Otherwise...no swaying....no bouncing........no problems.
Thanks etrailer for your help.

Great. On a 32 ft. WildCat fifth wheel..No problems. In the driveway, I installed the Shock system, heavier springs. I had to modify the shock-to-frame brackets, as the trailer has been raised 5 inches. Along with the MorRyde Stabilizers the trailer tows like a dream. Be sure to have the wet bolt grease nipples pointing out to the side of the unit for easier access. Next project will be to replace the scary Magnetic Brakes with a hydraulic system. Thanks etrailer. Kudos to your wonderful support crew. It was just like calling my buddy next door.

by:

I spent considerable time researching how to improve the towing experience of my 5th wheel camper without breaking the bank. This is an excellent product and it performed exactly as I had hoped. It improved my trailer's handling over the very rough roads we travel in just about every state in our country. If you are looking to improve your towing experience, then this is a reasonably priced product.

by:

Great kit, really beefy high quality components, nice powder coating. Because my axles are above the leaf springs which I believe is relatively rare, the kit needed some modification, not too bad if you're handy and have additional tools. This kit is a no brainer for axles underneath leaf springs, pretty much bolt on from seeing the eTrailer videos, dramatically improved ride quality on my 20 mile test drive, looking forward to our next trip.

by:

It works well, it was easy to install but the screws that go to the frame loosen with the vibration of the road even using Loctide 271 red, I had to stop on the road to tighten them every 2 hours. As soon as I returned home, I welded them and the problem was solved. The next problem was that the assembly was very close to the ground. I had to raise it about 2 inches more for safety. In conclusion, I give it 4 stars because the comfort is excellent and the price is a little high. taking into account all the extra work it took me until I got a proper balance.

by:

Just finished installing the Roadmaster shock system on my Momentum 398M tri-axle. The kit arrived well packaged and all items were included. The instructions that come with it are pretty straight forward and easy to understand. This would probably be a lot quicker install with some helping hands, but I did it by myself in about 6 hours. The hardest part of the entire setup is all of the overhead drilling, but with a little redneck ingenuity I was able to make that bearable. As far as this kit goes, the ordering process and the outstanding customer service from Angela W, etrailer.com rocks!! This could be the start of a wonderful relationship..

Still feel it is the best upgrade you can do short of going independent. Still a great product for the price.

by:

This is a great product, it smothered out my fifth wheel nearly eliminating the chucking.

Still working great. It was a great addition to my RV

by:

Great addition to my camper. After being frustrated with broken leaf springs, stuff broken in the camper and being jarred from pot holes, I installed these shocks to help the ride. Easy to install (just takes time) and a great addition.

After a year of use and many miles of road travel, these are one of the best upgrades I put on my 5th wheel camper. Thing in the camper stay put and no more being bounced all over the place.

@Greg We're happy to hear that!

Excellent product! Absolutely TRANSFORMED my towing experience! Installed on a 2017 Open Range 310BHS travel trailer. Approximately #10,500 loaded. Trailer doesnt bounce or jolt over the road. Ride is substantially bettter. System is tough, thick, and seems it will last. Instructions are pretty clear, and all tooling neede is pretty basic. I reccommend a digital inclinometer to be able to set your shock angles precisely. They're cheap on [online]. I reccommend this kit to every single person who has the same bouncing issue. Could not be happier with the purchase!

by:

The product itself is very well made and shipped. Install is pretty straight forward, measure twice, drill once type of thing.

My issue with this product is actually etrailer. I purchased this and 5 days later the price was $xx less. I contacted customer service figuring they could credit the order given 5 days passed but was told that their pricing changes daily in some cases and would not credit the difference. I kept an eye on the price over the next week and sure enough, noticed multiple price fluctuations from $xxx to $xxx. I'm not sure how this policy wins customer loyalty, but that's how etrailer operates apparently. If you buy this from etrailer keep a close eye on the price, you could save nearly 20% if you buy it on the right day.

The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorber kit on our Forest River Surveyor travel trailer was a great upgrade on our travels on rural highways and areas with wind. On our trip last fall from the Oregon Coast to Northern Idaho was a good test of this system and made for more relaxed driving! Should be installed at the factory!

by:

I had installed this same kit several years ago on my fifth wheel camper. Recently I had to travel on a very wash boarded road near St George, Colorado. I had 2 of these shock units fail so I order the new one since they worked so well for so long. To my amazement the new rendition of the shock absorber system had been completely redesigned a greatly beefed up. I do believe that these newly designed units would have held up against the rigor of the road I had to travel. I'm very satisfied with them. In addition I'd like to say that other than having to work under the trailer to do the installation it is a very easy job to do, just follow the instruction and do one wheel at a time.

by:

I’m impressed with the product, the plates and brackets are well machined and finished…it was extremely difficult drilling the holes for the upper shock mount…the spring equalizer was directly under the holes to be drilled…maybe it’s my model of trailer that is making it hard…2012 27’ Keystone Cougar..

by:

I purchased this system for our 2018 Coachman Chaparral. We had noticed that it would sway after crossing bridges and especially when coming out of a curve or while turning. I found this system to be very helpful. I welded the mounting brackets to the frame of the 5th wheel and bolted the rest as instructed. I would recommend this product to anyone that wants to stabilize their RV. Thank you for allowing me to write a review.

by:

Instructions where easy to follow and install went without incident. Only took the trailer for a short test drive after install so can't determine if trailer is riding better of rough roads.

by:

Installation went well, product fits perfectly. Test drove 5th wheel after install, it's absolutely a game changer! Love it!

by:

This product is exactly what I was looking for and thanks to “etrailer” they assisted me in getting the right product for my specific application. Thank you all for your help and great customer service and support over the many years.

The shock absorber kit continues to work perfectly as expected. They are certainly a must for anyone who travels a lot and desires a more comfortable ride in their RV trailer or 5th wheel. Our dishes and doors continue to remain intact and secure after installing this shock absorber kit. Certainly an improvement over the standard OEM design which is ignored most likely as a cost saving measure?

by:

I live in canada, the cost of the shock kit was xxx.xx Canadian cheaper than what I could buy it for in here even with the Dollar exchange and shipping, and I got it 7 weeks sooner than any other dealer I contacted here in Canada. The service from etrailer was excellent and the shock kit arrived on time as promised from UPS. Thank you etrailer for your excellent service, I especially liked the package tracking system. I was able to see the progress of my package from the time it was picked from the shelf to every step of the shipping process. I will purchase more from etrailer in the future now that I've experienced how easy the process is.
*** If you are ordering from Canada insure you call etrailer and confirm the cost of Canadian to US exchange and the shipping cost. Remember that all figures are in US dollars.***
I have not yet installed the shock kit but I will update my review once it's installed and I've had a chance to pull the trailer.

Well its been two2 seasons with the Roadmaster shocks installed on our tandem axle, 9500lb travel trailer and I think they are a Great investment for anyone that pulls a travel trailer. I had mine professionally installed at a local trailer repair shop. They welded the upper shock mounts to the frame, and they did a fantastic job. I must also say that at the same time I had new MORIDE Wet pins and bushings and new Lippert Road Armor Equalizers installed. This season we were able to travel to the Province of Alberta, and anyone who has traveled Albertas roads, you know how Rough they can be. This rough ride is greatly exaggerated when pulling a travel trailer. The last time we were in Alberta was before the suspension upgrades and it was a terrible ride, so rough that it was difficult to drink a coffee in a travel mug for hours. This time the ride was Greatly improved as was the cornering . I could comfortably sip a coffee as we bumped along. Now there are some heavy road dips in Alberta that even the best suspension money could buy, couldnt soak up completely, but with the Roadmaster shocks it made them tolerable. Back in British Columbia the handling of the trailer was Greatly Improved , cornering with the truck as though it wasnt back there. The Shocks made the towing experience much better. I highly recommend installing the Roadmaster shock kit on your trailer, you will notice the difference in handling, towing comfort and improved towing safety.

by:

Best thing I ever did takes all a bounce Right out of the trailer and saves on all your appliances inside

Kevin

7/27/2023

So far so good thanks and a lot of the bouncing off of the trailer suspension

by:

Put a set on a 35’ Open Range Light 5th wheel and greatly improved the towing experience and putting a second set on 41’Montana with hopes of the same results. Easy to install just give yourself plenty of time.

by:

This should be a factory included part on all trailers! These shocks greatly improve the ride, and reduce the bounce considerably. Medium difficulty to install, a long 12" to 14" bit is needed to get the holes drilled in the frame. The benefit is worth the time needed to install.

by:

I had a tech install the shocks on our 2019 Shasta Phoenix 37FE fifth wheel. He did an excellent job and now we experience a better ride and a lot less surprises when we arrive and open our camper door. Railroad crossing, terrible Georgia interstates, and ruff roads are allot smoother now with less bouncing.

by:

Well, all the shocks are installed. Working on my back is hard, not as easy to do stuff today as it was years ago but I got I done. Sharp drill bits and using the frame mounting plates as a guide was the key. However, I had so much dirt and metal bits in my hair I had to take my dogs flee comb to my head before I could shower. Now for the next project whatever that is. I’m sure I’ll think of something.

When installing a new suspension system like the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers # RM-2460 you mention, it is not required but a good idea to replace your old U-Bolts.
