Is The Factory Tie Plate Reused With the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers?

Question:

Question about installation of Roadmaster shock kit for 3” axles on a travel trailer. I have watched 2 ETrailer install videos and noted a difference regarding the tie plate. In one video showing install on a ‘21 Coachman TT, the new tie plate is installed with the u bolts and the factory tie plate reinstalled on top of the Roadmaster tie plate. In another ETrailer install video of the same product but on a ‘20 Grand Design Imagine TT, the new tie plate is installed by itself, the factory axle tie plate is not reinstalled. Can you explain the discrepancy? Does the factory tie plate need to be reinstalled or is it unnecessary? Thanks for your help.

For the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers # RM-2460 on 3" axles you do need to reinstall the factory tie plate on top of the Roadmaster tie plate as stated in their installation instructions. I have linked the installation instructions below and you can see it stated in the section for "Install the Tie Plates" step 2.
