Firestone Coil-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Coil-Rite springs fit inside your existing rear coil springs to maximize the effectiveness of your suspension system. The added cushion provided by the air springs allows your vehicle to better handle a heavy load or trailer. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your vehicle sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your vehicle for more effective braking and handling under heavy loading or when you encounter adverse road conditions. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Firestone Coil-Rite airline installation

Adjustable Air Pressure

The air pressure in your Coil-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your vehicle by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your vehicle's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Air Spring Construction

Coil-Rite springs are constructed of durable, elastic polyurethane to ensure years of service. Single replacement springs (sold separately) are available for maintenance to an existing Coil-Rite kit.

Air Spring Installation

The Coil-Rite springs install inside your existing coil springs. The custom-fit springs attach to your vehicle's spring seats.

The installation video is not accurate for a 2008 Trailblazer. It was much more involved and required removal of the coil springs to do theinstall.

We seem to not have a video of the install of this on a trailblazer specifically.

2007 Chevrolet Suburban

These bags made a night and day difference when towing our 26 foot travel trailer. I definitely recommend this product to anyone towing a trailer with a heavy tongue weight

by:

I added these to my Trailblazer ext after I lowered it 2/4. I pull a 25ft pontoon and a heavy duty equipment trailer that weighs 2500lb empty and I've never rubbed and it keeps the bounce to a minimum. Installation was easy.

by:

Great product had them installed less than two hours after receiving them

by:
2003 GMC Yukon

The air bagsy fit nicely into the coil springs so there are really no modifications needed to install them. The exhaust shields are easily shaped to fit onto the tail pipe where it wraps over the axle.
The only hic- up I had was the installation instructions did not include a diagram of the hose routing for my vehicle, which tells you to mount the bags with air line out the top or out the bottom. I found there was more room out the top and a shorter route for the air lines to be ran.

Tim, Firestone does not include instructions on howwhere to run the lines as so many people want or need to locate them differently, even on the same vehicle. Some like the fittings mounted through the bumper for easy access, others like them hidden underneath, and others still need to run them forward to a remotely controlled air compressor under the vehicle.

Worked as advertised

by:

I have a 2011 Avalanche and it became evident towing our 24' Trail Runner (6000lbs) that not only would I need the double sway system on the hitch but the Avalanche also needed more stability in the rear end. I purchased 'Firestone Coil-Rite Air Suspension' bags as an inexpensive way of meeting the demands of towing, and true to the advertisements, descriptions, and video, the Avalanche holds the road with little roll or recoil from the diverse conditions we have encountered over a distance so far of 12,000 miles (20,000kms). I run the bags at 20psi (max is 30psi) with and without the trailer. I left the installation of the bags to my mechanic and he was quite impressed with the simplicity and effectiveness of the system. Many thanks!

2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Having had them on for a year now...Excellent! I was skeptical because of the cheap price as I am used to the higher quality rubber/metal frame units but they have done the light duty job I bought them for.
Installation was challenging in order to squeeze them through the coils but it is do-able. I mounted these inside of a 2000 Tahoe.
I mounted the bags with the air line to the top and ziptied the lines along the wiring conduit. Valves were installed in the rear bumper next to the plate which is perfect because at night time they are illuminated by the plate lights.
I run 20lbs at all times.
One thing I would recommend is buying an airline T and using only one air line for fill/deflate. Two is a pain. I used to have one on my old set up and it was far easier. The T collects both lines behind the bumper.
Enjoy.

Work great, totally stiffened up my rear suspension. I bought these for a 2007 Tahoe LTZ. Rear was sagging when towing a grey wolf 23dbr trailer. Also combined these with the sumosprings(from etrailer) and a 1 inch lift(purchased elsewhere). Together this was everything I needed to eliminate the sag. Thanks etrailer!!

2010 GMC Yukon

Leveled out my Yukon. Good for long hauls. Keep pressure. I check them before every haul and have not had to add air. I deflated them down to 10 psi over the winter since I only use my truck to tow a camper. The ride was similar to the original but with less body roll. They are well worth the money and take little effort to install. I would recommend coupling these with a higher load rated tire as well. I put on some Kumho AT's that were a bit grippy and load range E. It rides like a 3/4 truck when I have everything inflated and like my wife's luxury SUV again when I let some of the air out. Great combination.

by:
2009 Chevrolet Avalanche

The directions are set up to cover a wide variety of vehicles. There are pages inserted for adjustments to the instructions for a smaller group of vehicles closely related to mine. I still found them confusing and not very clear. Once I got past trying to do exactly what the instructions (or at least the pictures) were saying, I was able to just look at my setup and install the air springs. The picture for the inserted heat shield instructions was the most confusing because it shows the air hose on the top but for my Avalanche (and I believe most late GM SUVs) the air hose is on the bottom. On the positive side the product appears to be of strong construction for the springs, hose, and the fittings. I'm confident it will greatly improve my Avalanche's ability to tow my trailer safely

by:
2014 Cadillac Escalade

I installed these on my 2014 Cadillac Escalade ESV. I pull a 29’ enclosed snowmobile trailer with a 7,000# rating. These help tremendously with sag and sway and make life safer and easier when trailering, particularly when dealing with a crosswind. Installation is a little bit of a knuckle-buster but can be done easily at home.

by:
2006 Chevrolet Avalanche

Very happy with this product. Easy installation. Air bags do not effect day to day driving even at max pressure since they are not as tall as the Spring it is inside, but are very effective once the weight has been added to make for safer handling.

by:

Used on my wifeys 2013 suburban for a loaded cross country trip with a full cargo area and loaded hitch rack, lifted the back end back to normal ride height, and unloaded provided a “cushier” ride.

by:
2009 Chevrolet Suburban

Good product with a relative ease of installation with the right tools. Only improvement would be to add a Tee in to the air line so there is only one needle valve for adding air in to the system.

by:
2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Plan on disconnecting bottom of shock and removing coil spring. Impossible to instal in coil spring while spring is on vehicle. Heat shields take a little time to get right

by:

Easy install, great product, great ride. Great lift when needed

  • How do You Install Air Springs on a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer
Firestone offers a kit for a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer 2WD, part # F4108. The air springs fit inside the coil springs and can be inflated or deflated depending on load. I have provided a link below to the instructions that come with the kit and walk through the installation. You would jack the Trailblazer until all the weight is off the rear axle and the rear suspension is fully extended. From here you can put the Air Helper Springs inside the coil springs. If your Caddy has the auto-leveling you'll need to go with the Firestone. There isn't a lot to separate the two. They install the same and have the same purpose and ratings. Firestone does have the brand recognition. You really can't go wrong either way.

So we do have an option for air suspension kits for your 2004 Chevy Avalanche 1500 (so long as it does not have the AutoRide auto-leveling), but I checked directly with the manufacturers and there are no standard air bags that fit your truck. What does fit are air bags that install inside your truck's coil springs; so while they don't fit the same way as air bags on the axle, these springs do provide a great deal of added suspension support. A couple things that can contribute to harmonic bouncing are improper tire type and improper tongue weight.
