The product works just as needed and was received on time with next day shipping. I’m sure the combo hitch package will work for your kayaks or boards. It is easy to set up and take down.

I drive really fast on the interstate and back roads and it held up the last three 200 mile trips with my 11’ SUP (stand up paddle board) nose ratchet tied to it. I used the provided strap for the rail/bar.

The brand also has a tail gate extender. (Not detailed in picture.)

This has been working out perfectly the last year. foam blocks do show some wear after multiple uses in extreme desert heat. Since I drive very fast I never trusted the straps it came with due to uplift so I started to add two black adjustable hole rubber straps from Home Depot as a backup. My truck doors closes properly with it. Provided straps work too by themselves when driving around speed limit coming down a windy hill.

by:

I liked the rack, and made a couple of changes. I added different connectors to the roof rack, a more rugged strap attachment and also put a pvc pipe on the rack to act as a roller. The other suggestion is adding a anti rattle clamp in two place, one at the hitch and one at the upper connection. I use it for a canoe carrier, with a tonneau cover on my truck

by:

Excellent product. Exactly as described and good quality. All parts spec’d were included. This was part of a combination of items I purchased, which also included an Erickson Big Bed Tailgate Extender Junior.
I originally ordered a separate combo that was out of stock due to manufacturer issues and Matthew with etrailer customer service was absolutely amazing, helping me understand the issue and find this very suitable alternative, sticking with me and promptly replying to my emails until we found the right solution to my needs. I can’t say enough about the customer service and the products I received. They’ve earned my future business.

by:

Very cost effective solution for roof rack. I carry a 60# kayak on the roof and this works well

by:

The product is very good very strong I definitely recommend the only thing is there is a warning in the instructions about side airbags which I do have didn't realize that when I bought the product but I will use anyways I will take the risk.

by:

I have used once and it is really the only option I could find for my convertible. Did ok, could be a little higher and I'm not crazy about the S hooks. But so far so good. Overall happy for a solution for my kayak.

by:

This adjustable bar with my trailer hitch load carrier work well together for carrying really long loads on my truck.

Still holding up.

by:

This is my second one. They work great.

by:

the product is simple but effective. Good thinking on some ones part.

by:

Used it to carry a kayak for a three-month trip with the front of the kayak on this bar and the rear tied down to the tailgate. It 'worked' but often came looser and slipped backwards. Straps can damage the rubber window moulding and the tiny z-clamps periously bend and risk loosing the strap when really pulling it tight. We got through the trip with some constant attention, but not a solution we're going to repeat. I didn't expect much as it was a cheap solution. Threw it away afterwards.

by:

I purchased the rack with the extend a truck. Unfortunately after 4 uses the strap that holds the roof rack bar became weak at the clamping point and I wasn’t able to secure the rack properly. Is there any other heavy duty straps or replacement straps? I was suprised as this strap seemed very low quality for the application it is used for.

by:

Both turbo rack and bed extender were easy to put together and install on my F-150. Lining up the t-bar level with the roof rack was simple and both lined up well. The extender is fairly loose in my standard truck receiver but is a common problem and will just add a tie down strap to secure it better. Good products....

by:

The concept is really great for people like me who own a car a little bit tricky to put a roof rack on put the round bar is not a good idea, i had to drill a hole and put a bolt through the J and the round bar because the J's spin around the round bar. The same thing with a square bar would be a lot better, excellent in fack.

by:

This is a pretty flimsy product. I bought it for mounting kayaks, but it is not sturdy enough. I would only use this for mounting lightweight and inexpensive items that you are carrying short distances. There is a lot of wobble to the round bar because of it's particular two-piece design (if you have a short width to span on your vehicle, you might not have as much wobble, noise or bend to the bar, but my setup had it extended as far as it would allow). Also, the webbing strap is very thin. I've used other straps of similar thinness and quality that have failed, so I decided not to take the chance with these straps. I'm returning the product but if I were to keep it, I'd use the foam pieces but replace the bar and strap with something much more sturdy.

by:

I have not used the product yet, however I have mounted the crossbar and everything looks great. I know I will have no problem with the kayak I plan on carrying. I really appreciate how fast the product got to me. I was told I would not get it until thursday or friday and it came today (Tuesday). I will definitely order from etrailer again and let my friend know about you as well. Thanks again,

Marc

by:

Shipping was very fast! I have not used either product yet, but I did mount both of them to check for quality. They seem like they will work fine for picking up lumber and hauling my 14' canoe. My only concern are the gaps in the welds on the extend-a-truck. It still seems sturdy but I will check it periodically. Overall, I'm pleased with this purchase and etrailer.com

by:

Very insecure way to strap down a canoe. The s-hooks pop out of the tube. I could not tighten the straps enough to keep the rack in place. I travel thousands of miles each year with my canoe and I would never rely on this rig to carry my boat.

by:

met my expectations. I would like some tie brackets on the frame adding perhaps a roller for ladder or material handling, I would like tie downd on the car top bracket. I have put both into sevice hauling a long ladder I use for inspections.

by:

used in tandem with the bed extender and is easy to install and remove. very stable when strapped down per instructions,

by:

Used it on my Ford f150 super crew for a 17ft aluminum canoe. Quick installation and did what I needed it for. Only complaint, is that the rubber pads did shift at little during bumpy turns. I would recommend product, service was fast and painless.

by:

Roof rack and load extender are great! Shipping time was excellent. I actually received the items quicker than expected.
Thanks for the great service and product!

by:

Box arrived torn partially open upon arrival, with lose bolts found in the corners of the box. Fortunately, all parts were accounted for.

by:

Nice product. Maybe a bit pricey for what it is, but it is universal. I am using it on the back boot of my Citroen 2CV and have it set to the minimum length. The foam pad supports are sturdy and soft enough to not scratch the paint. I ordered these and had them at my door within a week.

by:

Timely delivery. I received my rack and extender and promptly put 'em on. My canoe fit fine and rigged 2 hangers for kayaks without any problems. Gear hauled solidly. Very pleased.

by:

Adjusts well to truck roof. Took a long time to get delivered. Got good help from Adam E at e-Trailer and was resolved.

  • Darby Extend-A-Truck Kayak Carrier for a 2013 Ford F-150 and 2 Hobie Mirage Revolution Kayaks
Yes, you could use 1 of the Darby Extend-A-Truck Kayak Carrier w/ Hitch Mounted Load Extender and Single-Bar Roof Rack # DTA944-968-924 along with an additional bar, # DTA968, to hold your 2 Hobie kayaks. Since the kayaks will be more narrow at the ends the width will not be a problem.

For 1970s vintage vehicles there are few options for multi-fit roof racks. Most manufacturers fitment guides do not go that far back. This part is sold as a single bar, so for a typical installation you will need to order two of these. Of the products you mentioned the best option for you to carry your kayaks with your 2018 Chevy Colorado is going to be the Yakima DryDock Load Assist and Support Bar Y02449-3. This is designed to be used with roof racks in order to carry things like kayaks or other gear, while the LongArm # Y01149 simply extends the bed of your truck. • Carrying Canoe Level on 2016 Chevy Silverado with Leer 180 Camper Shell with Rear Incline
It would actually be better to have the canoe either all on the camper shell or all on the cab of the truck. When a load is split between the 2 it could result in problems because the truck bed can move some independently from the cab. The artificial rain gutters can be installed anywhere that you are willing to drill into. I do not recommend it on a 2016 Chevy Silverado because who wants to drill holes in the cab of a new truck! • A Dual Hitch Receiver for Tow Bars and Flat Towing a Vehicle Can Not be Used to Tow a Trailer
First, the dual receivers like # RM-077-4, cannot be used for towing like you have said. One issue is that you would have to add a ball mount to the end of the receiver and that extra link in the chain can create too much stress for anything other than flat towing. Though this item is rated for 400 pounds tongue weight, the tongue weight of a trailer can fluctuate as you travel whereas a vehicle is being towed with 4 wheels on the ground and has virtually no tongue weight. What I recommend is to sort of bypass the bed all together and use an alternate method. Start with a adding a 2 inch trailer hitch unless the truck already has one, see link.
