Economical Roof Rack Option to Carry Canoe on 2012 Ford Focus Hatchback

Question:

Im considering buying a couple of Darby DT 968s to use to carry a 17foot canoe on a 2012 Ford Focus Hatchback. Short trips, 20-30 miles. Should this be OK or do you recommend another solution. No rack presently on this car. Thanks.

The most economical way to carry a canoe on the roof of your 2012 Ford Focus Hatchback would be to use two of the Darby Turbo-Rack Universal Single-Bar Roof Rack, # DTA968. The foam pillars of this set-up hold the sturdy, steel crossbar, which retracts to 45 inches and expands to 60 inches, in place without scratching your paint. Please keep in mind that because of the straps passing through the passenger compartment, the headroom in your vehicle will be reduced.

Another option would be to go with one of our roof rack systems like the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero, # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA, # DK307, and the Rhino-Rack Nautic Roof Rear Loading Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs, # RR571. The Rhino-Rack system uses aerodynamic crossbars for a quieter ride and since the rack secures to the door jams of your vehicle, you will not sacrifice any headroom in your vehicle.

I always like to remind everyone to check the roof capacity of their vehicle before loading any cargo onto the roof. Exceeding the roof weight capacity could damage your vehicle.
