Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Just what I needed for a plug-in bike carrier and to tow both small utility and sailboat trailers. It was an easy install with the provided directions being spot on! My second go round with an etrailer hitch - they do not disappoint!!

2019 Honda CR-V

I purchased and installed a Draw-Tite hitch for my Xterra 15 years ago and it never let me down. So decided to go that route again, but in this case with smaller car mostly for hauling bikes.

Installation was straight forward, and watching the installation video beforehand really made the process much smoother. The fish wires are AWESOME. I did the installation myself. The trickiest part was holding it up... which I did buy using a strap to tie the bracket at the back of the hitch receiver to the tow hook, so I could then maneuver easily to align the frame bolts... then after loosely tightening those, I untied and put the final bolt in place.

I used silicone spray on the rubber isolators, to avoid degrading the rubber.

The only deviation I found from the instructions was I had to use the largest access hole to install both frame bolts/spacers on each side... as the spacers would not fit through the smaller access hole next to the fwd frame bolt hole. It was not an issue, the fish wires made it easy to do this.

The whole process once parts/tools/care were prepped was 2 hours. I didn't rush. I installed the 118741 vehicle harness after this was done, it went smoothly too after watching the video.

Looking forward to many good years of use of this hitch!

A year later and Im still extremely happy with this hitch. Used it for bike racks and pulling several trailers around without issue.

2019 Honda CR-V

The hitch receiver was hanging out of the box upon delivery. It did not fit correctly either. The holes did not line up with the holes in the vehicle. I had to move the holes in order for the hitch to fit. I don't know if I just received a lemon or what. I debated sending it back after reading so many reviews and watching the videos of install several times show how it should just bolt right up. However after considering the effort to send back on top of putting my exhaust mounts back just to do it all over again I felt that it was better to spend the extra effort to make it work. The hitch itself seems sturdy enough but I definitely wasn't the plug and play experience it should have been. Attached photos show how far the holes were off by.

Often times when the holes of the hitch and the vehicle do not line up, its because the hitch has flexed during shipping. Because a hitchs mounting brackets are made from mild steel, the mounting brackets can flex during shipping. If the entire hitch was rigid steel, there would be a greater chance of the hitch being damaged and experiencing stress cracks. I do have a link below for your future reference.

Product was shipped and delivered without dents or chips in the trailer hitch. Video instructions were super helpful to install DIY. Elevated the rear of my car driving up two ramps placed underneath my rear tires to allow me enough working space underneath the vehicle. Took two people to lift and balance the hitch up towards the bolts and screw on the washer and nuts. Took about 1 hr of time to install. Works great to carry my 2 inch Kuat two bike rack.

After installing and using my hitch for carrying my bike rack for the past year, I have had zero issues. Finish is still in great shape and very satisfied with my install and product. Would highly recommend.

Honda

I picked this hitch because it didn't require cutting the fascia for installation. One difference from the installation video was that both backing plate must be inserted from the rearmost hole as the forward one was slightly too small diameter. I'm not sure why Honda chose to make the holes different sizes.
Otherwise, a solid hitch that fits perfectly and looks good. The mounting plate for the electrical connector is a nice finishing touch.

2017 Honda CR-V

Fits great on my 2017 Honda CRV LX (single exhaust). Heavy duty construction and my understanding is that is has the most capacity of all the manufactured hitch receivers for the CRV? The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it was missing one of the 4 square neck bolts/rectangular washer/nuts that hold the hitch to the frame rail. (see attached sample missing set) This is cause for immediate halt of installation for most people. I happened to have a box of similar bolts/nuts and could fabricate a rectangular washer from 1/4" steel in my shop in order to continue installing this hitch the same day as opening the box. Supplier/manufacturer can do better.

Bought this for my 2017 CRV which has the kick sensor for lift gate operation, works like a charm & didn't have to reposition the sensor. Hitch was easy to install (recommend 2 ppl) looks great on the CRv too.

Excellent customer service and timely shipping. Between watching the YouTube video provided under my selection on web site and instructions shipped with the hitch , very straight forward installation.

Was at times difficult attaching nuts to the hitch frame bolts since I had no helper but with some bungee cords used as another pair of hands , I figured it out .

I did detach exhaust hangers in the back for mufflers and the hanger in front of the rear differential. This gave me the extra clearance I needed when attaching bolts by hand and torquing them later .

The product was received on time and in perfect condition. Installation was straightforward and easy. The unit will be used to mount bicycle carriers or a platform carrier, as needed.

Great product, very robust and easy to install approx 1 hr, it’s not flush but 76128 model it’s perfect for me since you don’t need to cut fascia

by:

I've been using this hitch receiver for over 2 years now, and it still looks and works perfectly and looks very good on my SUV. Very sturdy hitch that will definitely handle more weight than what my 2020 CR-V will actually tow. Super easy installation with included hardware and instructions. Great price on a great item.

by:
Honda

As usual, the hitch fit perfect! Some problems working the nut over the guide wire but nothing a little trial and error didn't overcome. This style hitch seems very beefy and although I haven't towed my trailer yet I'm sure it will preform as all the hitches I have installed on my past vehicles.
One important note that is not addressed well concerning the wiring harness for the 2024 Honda CRV is the note that a fuse needs to be installed in the fuse panel under the dash beside the steering column. A 20 amp fuse is needed and once installed the power is adequate for all your 12vdc lighting needs.

My etrailer experience was exceptional. The order (hitch, hardware and rubber hitch cap) arrived nicely packaged, all intact and a day before it was promised.

The installation difficulty level was moderate since I did it alone from the ramps in tight space. It would be easy for 2 persons though. Video from etrailer helped a lot!
I touched a few paint chips and use wrapping to reduce install related paint damage.
After disconnecting 2 rear rubber muffler mounts and insetting 4 x7/16" bolts the hitch was placed on the top of muffler and supported there with jack until was bolted on. All took about 2.5 hours. Not counting couple visits to local Home Depot (to replace the lock washer since spacer block is crooking and was flipped on the other side. And to get additional socket adapters to make it work in tight space).

The hitch itself is tough and well constructed, except that one layer of paint is not be enough for NY winter. Rust prevention spray (e.g. T-9 Boeshiled or something similar) will be needed.

The hitch works well. Bike rack and bikes are stable and secure on multiple trips. It holds well after an year with rust prevention spray no visible rust, paint still intact.

I don’t write too many reviews unless product and service is exceptional or poor. My dealing with etrailer was exceptional. From help on the phone to make sure I received correct wiring harness to shipping to ease of instillation. Ian assured me of the correct harness, shipping was quicker than quoted. After watching instillation video on etrailer I was ready to go. I’m installing on 2018 Honda CRV and was never sure that nothing had changed from 2017 CRV. I was hoping maybe Honda would move wiring connection to a easier more logical location. The hitch took 50 minutes to install. Went exactly as etrailer video showed. The only problem I had was lining up hitch plate with tow loop. I suggest loosening up mounting bolt as far as possible and jacking directly under back end of receiver opening. I could not do this by hand but only took 3 pumps on my floor jack and everything lined up. I installed by myself and used a jack stand to balance one side of hitch while I bolted the other side. All hardware tightened and torqued nicely. I did loosen the mid muffler hanger for a bit more room. The Honda wiring harness was exactly where etrailer video showed it to be. Wiring was a struggle due to panels braced in place and I was unable to remove. I had very little room to work and needed wife to pull on panel while I put wiring in place. Watch the instillation videos on etrailer, it is perfect, explains everything you need to know and how to do it. Hitch install was 50 minutes by myself. Wiring install was 90 minutes and I needed extra hands. Price was great and I will go to etrailer for my future needs.

Patrick

It has now been a year and hitch and wiring are still working perfectly. Thanks etrailer.

Install took 90 minutes from backing up onto ramps to rolling back down. Pretty straightforward, watch the video a couple times and you won’t even need the instructions. My car is the 2018 CRV Touring with the hands free tailgate.

Notes:
1. I bought the exhaust hanger tool online and it was worth every bit of $20 to pop the pins out of the rubber bushing.
2. Exhaust hanger tool was useless for re-install, all you need is some silicone spray and strong fingers.
3. Two person job for sure. I held the unit in place while my son got all the nuts on finger tight.
4. Most important, the hands-free liftgate works just fine!

I attached my bike rack (1Up USA 2”), tossed a bike on, and drove around for 10 minutes, everything is good.

Perfectly!

by:

Here's a tip that might save some freaking out from happening. When I raised the vehicle I only did the right rear side just high enough to get my lowest jack stand under and be able to roll far enough under to reach the exhaust hanger in front of the rear axle. when I got the hitch loosely secured on the main four bolts I next went to install the hitch to tow point bolt and it was not lining up. took me a minute but I finally realized the vehicle being off level cause I only raised one side was enough to not allow it to fit correctly once I leveled the vehicle up it lined up perfectly.
Another Install note: since I installed this bymyself I let the exhaust loose from the rear hangers and left the one in front of the axle secured which allowed me to rest the hitch on the right and left mufflers. when I was ready to secure the bolts I only had to push the hitch up a few inches on the side I was working on and the other side stayed put on top of the muffler. Once it was loosely secured I then let the front one loose and that allowed the muffler to drop for me room to have room to work the torque wrench.
Great Product very nice to install everything fit well and shipped on time. this is my second hitch from E-Trailer.

Purchased this to accommodate a bike
rack on my '10 Honda CR-V. It was reasonably priced, arrived well packaged and arrived on time. Had a local garage install because the exhaust system had to be lowered and it was more than I wanted to take on. The high fits well and is unobtrusive. I've done business with etrailer in the past and they are always on top of their game.

by:
2017 Honda CR-V

This is the third receiver hitch I have purchased and installed and while it is on and looks good, it was by far the most difficult. It states you have to drop the exhaust and that alone intimidated me to the point of calling and getting a return label. It ended up not being that bad but access was challenging. I was worried about fishing the bolts through the frame but the design of those fishing wires worked perfectly.

by:

I had never used this site so I was worried about the fit seeing as this year Honda CR-V 2017 was a complete redesign. I will now be coming back to this site for future hitches. I needed it by the weekend so I choose 2 day shipping. A day and a half later it was at my door. Thanks for the fast shipping!

  • Trailer Hitch Recommended for 2020 Honda CR-V LX
As long as your 2020 Honda CR-V isn't a hybrid model, the Draw-Tite # 76128 would certainly be a fit. This being said, take a look at the Curt # C13397. This is the hitch I'd recommend because when installed, most of the hitch will be concealed behind the bumper fascia, with only the receiver tube and the safety chain hooks being visible. This hitch will fit both regular and Hybrid models. I've provided a side-by-side comparison photo so you can see how different the two appear once installed. If...

Most trailer hitches can be installed by a DIY-capable end user but most auto shops will do it for you, for a fee, naturally. A shop with a vehicle lift has a major advantage in that it will be much easier to access the underside of the vehicle where the hitch will mount to the frame using the included hardware. All hitches made for your 2017 Honda CR-V, shown on the linked page, are relatively easy installs as these things go. The hitch makers rate the install as a 3-out-of-10 on the...

  • Best Trailer Hitch for Bike Rack On a 2019 Honda CR-V
There are two great trailer hitch options for your 2019 Honda CR-V, the Curt Receiver Hitch part # C13397 and the Draw-Tite Receiver Hitch part # 76128. The main difference between these is that the Curt Receiver Hitch has a hidden cross tube which means only the receiver tube portion will be shown once installed (see photo 1) whereas the Draw-Tite Receiver Hitch has a visible cross tube which means both the cross tube and receiver tube portion will be shown once installed (see photo 2). • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2017 Honda CR-V
For your 2017 Honda CR-V the hitch I would recommend is the Draw Tite # 76128 which is a confirmed Class III fit for your vehicle. Unlike the Curt hitch for your vehicle it does not require a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack so it's the better choice. It comes with 2 ball...

Well, thank your nephew for us. We do installations on all our products for customers here in Wentzville near O'Fallon. The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76128 is the best option in my opinion for your 2018 Honda CR-V. It is rated for a stronger capacity than the Curt option # C13397 and is a slightly easier install as well with no fascia trimming required. For your trailer wiring, I recommend the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector...

  • Do 2 Inch Trailer Hitches for 2019 Honda CR-V Interfere with Hands Free Tailgate
The Draw-Tite 2 inch receiver, part # 76128, is the better choice for your 2017 Honda CR-V because of your hands-free lift gate. The sensors are likely blocked right where the receiver opening is but if you put your foot to either side the gate will open. The etrailer part # e98848 , on the other hand completely interferes with the sensors. However, you can obtain a sensor relocation kit from a Honda dealership to solve this problem if you prefer this hitch. If you'll be hauling a trailer...
