Solution for Blocked Rear Tailgate Lift Sensor on 2017 Honda CR-V After Hitch Install
Question:
I just purchased a 2017 Honda CR-V Touring Model with hands free access power tailgate. Im told by the dealer that because of the Hands free access tailgate, the trailer hitch must be customized slightly off-center to allow for the hands free sensor to detect to foot motion and function propperly. Do you have a hitch that will work on this vehicle AND allow the hands free to function?

We have actually heard that Honda has a relocation harness that allows the sensor to be moved so that you can kick your foot under the rear bumper and the hitch won't block the sensor.
Are you sure the Honda tech wasn't confused and meant to say that the sensor needed to be off-center? You wouldn't ever want to install a hitch off-center as that would make towing a problem. The tires of the trailer would want to pull the rear of the vehicle to the side and would also wear out very quickly.
In order to restore the hands free feature, you will need to remove the bumper shell, and move the sensor unit 7 inches to the right, as that is where it's installed if the Honda trailer hitch accessory is installed.
For a hitch for your 2017 Honda CR-V the Draw Tite hitch part # 76128 would work well as it is a confirmed fit. I attached an install video link as well.
