Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Brakes 38LW Review

Today we're going to review part number 38LW. This is the 3/8 inch size Lockwasher for the Brake Mounting Bolt for 12" Brake Assembly. This locker needs to be used with the 3/8 inch size Brake Mounting Bolt. We do sell the mounting bolts separately also. That's listed on on our website. It is listed on the product page for this washer as a related product; it's part number 7-5.

The Lockwasher will go on the bolt. The other parts you would need that's a related product is the nut; that's part number 38N. This is the 3/8 inch size nut. All these three pieces together is what would hold your brake assembly to your trailer. That should do it for the review on part number 38LW.

This is the 3/8 size lock washer for the 3/8 inch brake mounting bolt for the 12 inch brake assembly.

Replacing the brakes on a 50 year old FAN camper. After being assured that it had 10 inch brakes by another company"s "expert" because it has a 3500# axle, I finally received the correct 12 inch brakes from eTrailer. They arrived very quickly, and packaged well. The installation went almost as easy as the very helpful online video showed. Only difference was I had to slightly tighten the brakes to slide the hub over them, even though they are self-adjusting once in service. I have never owned or worked on a trailer before, and the installation was relatively easy. Thank you to George J for the followup email within 24 hours of delivery.

The electric trailer brakes arrive within three days of ordering. The parts were a perfect fit. Etrailer' support is second to none! Helpful videos and live support available. The four trailer brakes were $100.00 less expensive than the nearest competitor and free shipping too!

by:

Nuts and bolts are nuts and bolts but I can report that the self-adjusting brakes have worked well on our two-thousand mile trip this summer through the mountains of Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. They stop straight and true and don't seem to fade on those long down grades like the infamous "Cabbage Hill" near Pendelton Or.

very easy to get the right parts, Great service.

We will be back as we need parts
etrailer is the place to buy parts great price and fast turn around time with complete service to help you figure things out.
Get your barring number and just call or go online. They will identify the parts you need for sure from the original barring you have.

good quality product for reasonable price.e-trailer close to half price of what local dealers/suppliers are charging. shipping a little long, but it was in between chrismas and new years. will definately order from e-trailer again! thank you e-trailer

by:

The whole order was perfect. I'm rebuilding the running gear on a1976 3 horse slant then remodeling the whole trailer by converting the trailer into a communications trailer for HF radio for disaster response. Front area will be living quarters. I am in our State Guard as a radio operator and also in county emergency management. This trailer will be my shelter and operating station when deployed to hurricanes and such. Since I'm spending my own funds on this, the good prices on etrailer are greatly appreciated.

by:

The brakes were exactly the ones I needed. Not knowing I worked with John by cross matching numbers on bearings and so on. He held on the phone while I searched for the numbers. Excellent company, excellent people and very knowledgeable. Will use in the future for any product that they carry. Thank you very much and my horses are safer because of you. Washers, nuts, brakes, and everything else was great.

by:

My package arrived on time just as I expected. I was a bit disappointed with the packing. Everything came in one box. The washers were not in any bag they were just loose in the box. I ordered 10 but I only received 8. I think the other 2 fell out the bottom of the box that was not completely sealed with tape. You might want to put small parts in a zip lock bag. Anyway I only replaced the washers on one of the brakes and used the old ones on one.

by:

Thank you for the great service and right parts , everything is working great. I will definitely buy from etrailer again when I need trailer parts !!

by:

bought a brake assembly that needed fastening to the axle; these nuts, bolts and washers were just what I needed. Thanks George J.

by:

These lock washers worked great! Some of the best lock washers I've ever used! I highly recommend them!

by:

Ordered lots of parts on Monday, received most of them by Thursday. The received parts were well packaged and undamaged. A few of the parts they didn't have in stock so they had those drop-shipped to me which should be delivered in the next couple of days.
No supplier I have ordered any parts from has such a great technical reference web site or personal customer support. Yea, Rebecca - Well Done! Yes, I'm very happy with the pricing.
Thanks for your great support and I look forward to doing business with them again. More info to follow as soon as I can get the parts installed on my trailer.

by:

Carla M. worked with me to make sure we had all the right parts for my boat trailer. I am quite happy with her help.

by:

I have received my order but have not yet installed the assemblies, I would like to say your team was very helpful and got me the parts I needed at a great price. I will be placing future orders with Etrailer. Thank you!

by:

Great service. Etrailer does an excellent job of filling the orders and getting them sent. Shery was really good handling our order. Thanks again.

  • Brake Assembly Dust Caps and Nut Recommendation for Brake Assemblies 23-105-106
Sounds like you are looking for the dust cover plugs part # BP10-220 for the brake assemblies # 23-105-106. The bolts these are designed to fit to are actually studs that are attached to the mounting flange of your current spindle like the part # 4-44-1. For nuts and washers that fit that you'd want the part # 38LW and # 38N.

  • Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes, Leaf Springs, Bearings, Hardware, & Brake Lines for Dexter 7K Axles
Since the ProLube kit # XLPROLUBE2440KIT is only rated for use on 5,200 to 6,000 pound axles I do not recommend using it for 7,000 pound axles. Grease would be better for marine applications since a hub full of grease repels water and an oil bath hub could just let the water set on top. The correct grease seal for disc brake kit # K2HR712D is # RG06-070. It does have an inner diameter of 2.25 inches and the outer diameter at 3.376 inches will fit the hub in the disc brake kit. • Recommended Brake Assembly 12x2 with 4 Bolt Mounting Pattern
For your 12x2 electric brake assemblies, I recommend the Dexter Electric Brake Kit for 4 Bolt or 5 Bolt Flange - 12" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies # 23-105-106-09. These assemblies will fit your 4 bolt flange and will work well on your trailer. The mounting nuts are included but the bolts are not. If you need the bolts and lockwashers, I recommend # 7-5 and # 38LW. You may also want the brake adjustment tool # W80630 to install and maintain your brakes.

  • Is the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly # 23-451 Made in the USA.
Yes, the Dexter Electric, Right Hand Side, Trailer Brake Assembly, # 23-451, is manufactured by Dexter in the USA. For the left hand side trailer brake assembly and hardware, you will need part numbers # 23-450, # 7-5, # 38N, and # 38LW.

  • Free-Backing Drum Brakes for M101A2 Military Dump Trailer
To check the fit and compatibility for a set of replacement hydraulic drum brakes on your M101A military dump trailer you will want to match up a few things. Those things are drum dimensions, axle weight capacity, mounting bolt pattern and the compatible wheel sizes. The linked photo shows how to check your drum size. The Dexter free-backing 12 x 2-inch brake kit you mentioned # 23-342-343 is suitable for axles rated up to 7K, they use a 5-bolt mounting pattern and they fit wheel diameters...

  • Recommended Hubs Drums And Electric Brakes For 2000 Trails West 4 Horse Trailer
From my research it looks like you have 6,000 lb axles on your trailer. You may want to check to see if there is a plate or sticker that shows the axle weight capacity. If you have a 5-bolt brake mounting flange I recommend the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly, part # 23-459 for the right hand and part # 23-458 for the left hand. These are designed to use with 12 inch hubs and drums. I have attached links to a product review video and an initial setup video for these brakes....

Yes, the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K is compatible with the Dexter Electric Brake Assembly # 23-105-09 because it is 12" diameter x 2" wide, as is the brake assembly so they will fit together perfectly. The brake assembly you referenced is just the left hand side and the right hand side is the Dexter Electric Brake Assembly # 23-106-09 or they can be purchased together as part # 23-105-106-09. I walked out to the warehouse to look at the Electric Brake Assembly for 6K Axles, part # 23-459. The brake assembly does not include the backing plate bolts. I would recommend installing new bolts and nuts for easier installation and safety. For mounting bolt, you would need Brake Mounting Bolt, part # 7-5, which is sold as a quantity of 1. For Uni-Servo Free Backing brakes, 7000 pounds, order the Dexter 23-342 for left hand, and 23-343 for right If you want new mounting bolts order the Redline # 7-5 bolts, and for split washers order Redline # 38LW washers.

  • Will Dexter Brake Assemblies Fit on a Lippert Axle
You will have no problem using a Dexter brake assembly on a Lippert 7K axle. We have installed several Dexter brake assemblies on Lippert axles at our shop.
