Hidden Design for a Clean, Factory Look

The EcoHitch Stealth trailer hitch is designed to be completely out of sight when you're not towing. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. Once installed, the cross tube will be completely concealed and only the receiver will be visible beneath your bumper. But unlike other hitches with hidden cross tubes, the Stealth goes one further. You can remove the receiver portion of the hitch for a completely out-of-sight setup. To mount the receiver, just insert it up into the access port that is built into the cross tube. Secure the receiver to the hitch with the supplied bolt and washers. When you're done towing, just remove the receiver portion to return your vehicle to its clean, factory appearance.

Eco-Friendly Material

With a combination of aerospace-grade aluminum, steel, and stainless steel, each EcoHitch is made of a strong metal alloy that will stand the test of time. The lightweight alloy is composed of recycled materials. Traditional steel hitch manufacturing can use coal or oil, which can contribute to harmful gas emissions. The EcoHitch's recycled materials limit the carbon footprint during manufacturing, so you get a sturdy trailer hitch while also helping the environment.

Rigorous Strength Testing Ensures Durability

This EcoHitch trailer hitch is tested for durability and sturdiness. Using Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA), individual points of stress on the hitch can be detected and remedied. Designers can accurately test the hitch to ensure that it will meet or exceed SAE J684 standards. The EcoHitch Stealth trailer hitch is carefully researched and strength tested for a durable, high-quality hitch that can resist damage while on the road.

2016 BMW X5

I kind of rushed my decision with this trailer hitch as I should have done more research for my 2017 X5. Having checked the specs of other hitch models after the fact, the 5000lbs tow limit is unimpressive. For another $[XX] I could have jumped to the Stealth Hitch which has 1000lbs more at 6000lbs. You can use it to tow a couple of trackbikes or other lighter weight for lower duty stuff but for towing cars this hitch will not do the job according to specs - which I don't understand why since there is a lot of metal in the construction. Better off with the Curt model or the Stealth hitch models.

2015 BMW X5

I’ve been using the etrailer hitch behind my 2015 BMW X5 35d for about a month and it’s worked great. I’ve towed a handful of small trailers with it and regularly haul my dirtbike on a hitch rack and it is nice and sturdy. The cable loops are a little tricky to latch on to but that’s because they are well hidden. I like not having a big ugly hitch sticking out the bottom. Install was very straight forward and everything fit well.

by:

Perfect Hitch for my BMW F15. The best part is the stealth mode when it's not being used. Highly recommend!

2017 BMW X5

I had the Ecohitch Stealth hitch receiver installed on our 2017 BMW X5 right away by my independent BMW mechanic, who had no issues performing the task. I chose not to do it myself because installation was more involved than other hitches I've experienced (this one required removing the bumper system's fascia and replacing the factory cross member). I use the hitch only for a cargo platform. Together, they have exceeded my expectations for carrying inflatable kayaks (uninflated) and for moving my daughter about 1000 miles: they are plenty sturdy and very capable!

2013 BMW X5

Instructions aren’t quite correct for the 2013 BMW X5. You don’t need to take off the tail light assembly, there is only 1 screw behind the reflectors, there are 4 pop rivers in the fender wall and there are plastic caps on the top 2 posts of the impact bar on both sides that need to be removed to access the nuts. Also you need to cut out the underside of the underside bumper fascia a bit-where you cut is not seen unless you are under the car though.

Overall great product and easy install.

Other than that, great product and easy to install!

by:

Great product. Installation went easily and it is nice that no modification was needed to my SUVs bumper-

It’s heavy and arrived in a mashed up box that looked like it had been through battle. Packaging could be more robust to protect this heavy steel fabrication.

by:

Arrived on time. All parts were included and no damage during shipping.
I would order from these guys again.

Thanks

  • Is EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch For 2015 BMW X5 Compatible With Thule Apex Swing XT Bike Rack
The two are indeed compatible without the need for any extender or adapter; the 1-1/2 inch pin hole depth is something that is actually true for essentially all bike racks, so the pin hole depth of the EcoHitch is perfect for the Thule rack. As far as the correct part numbers, while you did specify # EH44FR, I did want to mention, just to be thorough, that there are two EcoHitch Stealth hitches that fit a 2015 BMW X5, one if your BMW has a backup sensor, and the other for one without...

The EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch Receiver that is designed to fit the 2018 BMW X5 is # EH44FR. This hitch very similar to # 306-X7265 accept it is designed to fit the model with the rear parking sensors. If you need trailer wiring for your vehicle, I recommend # C56190KIT.

As long as your 2017 BMW X5 40e doesn't have the M Performance package then yes, the EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7265 will fit your vehicle. According to my research your 40e has the iPerformance package which is just a fancy way of saying it is a hybrid. The M Performance package looks to be a sports package. They aren't really the same thing but it also seems like BMW let's people combine different packages so just be sure that you don't have the M Performance and...

The EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 306-X7265 you referenced is only a fit for 2013-2018 models without backup sensors but it does fit both M models as well as those that are not M performance models.

If you're trying to decide between the hitches available for your 2017 BMW X5, I attached a link of our selection with a "Best" video at the top of the page. We have a version of the EcoHitch that fits your 2016 BMW X5 that was designed for versions of the vehicle that have the backup sensors with part # EH44FR. Thanks for the picture of your vehicle too as that's enough for us to know that it is the correct body style for this hitch.

A small ultra-light teardrop trailer will be well within the X5's maximum towing capacity of 5952-lbs. I linked both the written instructions and an install video to show you the process.
