Video Transcript for etrailer Trailer Suspension - Leaf Spring Suspension - 28-5 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the front, center, or rear hanger for double eye springs. This hanger can be used as a front hanger on single axle applications and it can be used as a front, center, or rear hanger on tandem or triple axle applications. It's designed to fit 1 3/4 inch wide double eye springs with 9/16 inch diameter eyes. It will work with a 9/16 inch diameter bolt. Your hardware is sold separately. The units made from a sturdy steel construction that measures around 3/16 of an inch thick. It is a weld on application so it would get welded directly to the trailer frame. The holes on the top are not for a bolt on installation.

These holes are for if the installer would like to use button welds instead of or in addition to welding around the hanger. The height measurement for a hanger is taken from the center of the mount hole to the top of the hanger so for this particular unit it's going to give us a height measurement of 3 1/4 inches. The overall length of the unit edge to edge going this direction we're looking at a measurement of 3 inches. The overall height, that's going to give us a height of around 3 13/16 of an inch. When it comes to the width, measuring the external width first, that's going to measure about 2 3/8, internal width is going to measure about 1 7/8 - 1 15/16 of an inch. Then all the holes on the unit are going to have a diameter of 9/16 of an inch. That's going to do it for today's look at the front, center, or rear hanger for double eye springs..

These hangers are great for the center. They provide just enough clearance for your equalizer. Because of the length and being that I am a welder I added a support inside the hanger to keep them rigid!

by:

Megan was very helpful with helping get this order together and communicating with parts being shipped from other locations. Thank you so very much Megan!!!!

by:

great product and your staff was very knowledgeable and helpful I have told many friends about it and I will use your company again when needed

by:

Really like dealing with e-trailer, but am rather disappointed with the Hangers I ordered. They were smashed so hard in the die press during manufacture, that I am concerned about stress cracks. I attached 2 pics, and you can see the steel was slammed so much that it literally pinched it over a sixteenth of an inch at the base of the ears. Sad thing is, I don't have alot of time, and am forced to use them. I hope they don't break. The hangers I got in a previous kit seemed fine. I wonder why these should be different.

GOOD AND TO SPEC

by:

Just what I ordered and got here fast

by:

Fantastic product. Just wish your shipping was faster

by:

Product was high quality, arrived quickly and worked well!

by:

Etrailer is always wonderful to deal with. From full suspension kits to simple hangers, i always get more than i expect.

by:

This bracket is better than the original factory one!

by:

I rebuilt the under carriage of my older trailer and purchased parts from etrailer. I replaced single leaf spring with their 5 leaf springs and used their heavy duty suspension kit and heavy duty hangers. Everything works great and would recommend etrailer parts to anyone. Great prices and great and friendly service.

Still satisfied with the products I bought through etrailer! Works great!

by:

Service from E trailer is outstanding. Everyone does there utmost to insure that you are more than satisfied with the product and service.
Having said that, I need to be honest about the hangers I received. I have purchased these same hangers 3 times and in each case the holes for the 9/16" bolts were drilled off of perpendicular as they should be. It is not enough to create a problem but it is clearly not the way the holes should be drilled.

by:

I have never used these to comment. I carry them in case of a catastrophic failure, to have on hand to do a road repair.

by:

E-Trailer always has what I need good products good service fast shipping at reasonable prices!!

by:

I purchased the parts I needed to repair the suspension on an old Lil-Rider trailer. Knowing else had anything close to what I needed. The parts came quickly and we're exactly as advertised.

by:

The spring hangers I ordered are a fine product. I was planning to use some existing rectangle tube to make my own, but what with time constraints, I decided to order these from etrailer. I am glad I did. I couldn't have made them any nicer, I would have only burned time trying. I could have made them as good, yes. I have the tools to do so. But I could not have made them as nice as these in a short period of time. Great purchase, and it allowed me to work on other aspects of the trailer while these shipped. Shipping was quick too, all around a great deal.

by:

Easy to install and and the trailer I rebuilt is awesome now.

The unit is still going strong!

I have built several trailers in the past and I am currently building a tilt bed car trailer. I have made several purchases from etrailer.com They are great people to deal with and all of the products that I have purchased have met or exceeded my expectations. The spring hangers are well formed with no distortion and true to specifications. Highly recommend etrailer.com

by:

Delivery was as promised and all parts were there. Great service. Raised 5th wheel 4 3/4 inches so it would be level when hooked up to 2016 Ram 2500.

by:

As usual, etrailer does the job and faaast shipping!!!
I will use these spring brackets to move my trailer axles forward and reduce tongue weight.

by:

Great service, fantastic shipping and delivery. All pieces of the suspension repair of my tandem trailer fit perfectly! I have another trailer to repair and I will be ordering my parts from etrailer.

by:

I ordered two trailer leaf hangers and a 10,000 trailer jack. The price was as cheap as I could find anywhere and super fast shipping! Thanks
Will be a return buyer.

by:

Simple and cheap. Easy to weld. Why four stars was that the holes from one side to other didn’t line up exactly which caused problems for my installation.

by:

Not good, one of the springs in my order was the wrong type. Customer service has a 20 + minute hold, also not good.

by:

Thank you for the quick customer servic e.

  • How to Raise a Trailer for More Ground Clearance
There are a couple of things that you can do to get more ground clearance for your new trailer. First, if the leaf spring stack is attached under the axle then you could use an over/under conversion kit. If the trailer has a 2-3/8 inch diameter round axle use # K71-384-00. If it has a 3 inch diameter round axle use # K71-385-00. This will move the leaf spring stack to the top of the axle and raise the trailer approximately the same amount as the axle diameter. These kits will only work...

You will not have to take the axle off of the trailer to install an over under kit such as # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8 inch diameter round axles or # K71-385-00 for 3 inch axles. Just make sure the trailer is supported at the frame when performing the installation.

  • How To Fix Tires Hitting Fenders After Installing New Dexter E-Z Flex Equalizers
To get your Dexter E-Z Flex Equalizer lower so the tires on your 2-17 Nitro Z19 boat trailer are not hitting the fenders I recommend having taller center hangers installed. Base on the pictures you provided it looks like your current hangers are pretty short. You will want to measure from the frame to the center of the hole in the hanger, and then use one of the options mentioned below as a replacement to get the clearance back. The available options are the 3-1/4" tall # 28-5, 3-5/8"...

  • What Happens if I Change the Size of Equalizers on 5th Wheel Camping Trailer
When changing the size of the equalizer that is on a trailer, this will affect the size of hangers needed or the spacing of the hangers. For example, if you were to go with an equalizer that is one inch taller, you could keep the center hanger the same but would need one inch longer end hangers. If you replace your current equalizer with one that is longer, you would have two options. One would be to find shorter springs but the easier option would be to move the spring hangers further...

  • How to Re-position Trailer Suspension Shackle Links Once They've Flipped
You can get the shackle links to flip back the correct way by jacking up the affected axle using a floor jack which should pop things back into place. Having this repeatedly occur would indicate that either your leaf springs are too long or your equalizer is a bit too long. What equalizer are you currently using? Most of the time there's a number cast into it. I've linked to an article with more information on trailer suspensions.

  • Thickness of the Steel Used in the Trailer Hanger part # 28-5
The thickness of the steel of the Hanger part # 28-5 is 3/16 of an inch thick. The only way to get 6 of these exact hangers is to order a quantity of 6 of them. The # H248 comes with a set of taller center hangers. Center hangers are taller because of the shackle straps that hold the springs to the equalizer call for the center hanger to be taller so that the spring ends up sitting level. I attached a picture that hopefully let's you visualize that.

If you spread tandem axles to far apart you end up causing tire scrubbing which means that when you are making tight turns the axle with less weight on it will be skidding around on the pavement which cause premature tire wear.
