Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Shipping was super fast to NC. My car spend half its life in Fairbanks AK (gravel and sand winters) and half in North Carolina so I didn't have to use a tap and die. I did clean out the bolt holes with brake cleaner and a brush to be 100%. Installation was pretty simple. I put the rear up on jackstands and used a standard 19MM socket to install. After centering and starting the bolts by hand they went in easily. I have an Impact but could only use it on 2 bolts on the passenger side. The rest with a ratcheting wrench. The only tricky part is working around the muffler to get your wrench in. I have a long 50-250 ft lbs torque wrench that worked well on the passenger side but had to take the tire off the drivers side for clearance. A smaller 20-100 ft lbs wrench would fit the space better. This is a reasonable DIY product but absolutely don't skip the torque wrench step. When you think its tight, its not 92 ft lbs tight. PS. don;t mind my pictures my car has some old war wounds.

2003 Toyota Matrix

I recently decided to buy a trailer hitch for my 2003 Toyota Matrix XR. After searching everywhere, and a million phone calls, I finally found exactly what I was looking for on etrailer.com. I found the customer service to be some of the best I have ever dealt with. I was even contacted personally by Cathy T to help answer some questions I had about my purchase. I received my order in about a week. The installation required very little mechanical knowledge. had to tap the rusty bolt holes in the frame of my car, but after that it was very simple to install. Along with the plug and play wiring harness I ordered, the total installation time took well under an hour, and I was literally towing my trailer home an hour later. Id highly recommend etrailer for the quality of product for the price, and the excellent customer service.

2009 Pontiac Vibe

Here are the pictures of the hitch just installed this morning on our 2009 Pontiac Vibe. The hitch was very easy to install and we're very satisfied with the quality. Even at 80 years of age, I was able to do the majority of the wiring myself, but did have my step-son do the last wire that had to go underneath and up to the battery. He also bolted on the hitch. He is a mechanic by trade and was impressed with the ease with which the hitch fit and bolted up. All in all, I am very pleased with this purchase and will recommend your company to others.

2005 BMW X3

Again, never question the internet, I have a 2005 Matrix RS, so the age of the car should of told me to buy a tap to tap the frame rails, I didn't buy one and had to wait a week to install because you cant get that M12 x 1.25 tap locally. Other than that it all went very well. The 24812 does make you trim the fascia a bit and the other places too. But I prefer that because the hitch is off the ground more. From the install instructions (Note: Toyota Matrix XRS & XR Sport models have added center fascia that must be removed for hitch installation) Heather at etrailer is the best, I ordered 3 of these by mistake and she cleared it up and got me a discount to boot. Thanks Heather. I will be coming back to etrailer for my X3 hitch, little bit bigger job. I included a picture and that scratch on my bumper was already there.
Thanks to my Daughter!!!

Took a few days to ship after confirmation. Arrived with paint chipped off and scratched up. Must have been from previous shipping, etrailer box was in great condition. etrailer.com sticker was put on upsidedown. Other than a little touch up, product is serving it's purpose.

2003 Pontiac Vibe

Very easy installation on my 2003 Vibe GT. Actual installation was less than 30 min, I spend more time collecting my tools and getting the car up onto the ramps than I did installing the hitch. My southern vehicle did not have any corrosion issues with the bolt holes, 30 sec on each with a wire brush in my drill cleaned them out just fine. The receiver sticks out a bit farther under the bumper than I would have liked, but it does not cause any problems for me.

by:

This is the second e-trailer hitch that I have purchase and installed. Hitch came with all required parts and was installed in about two hours. Expanded time on install was caused by the piece that had to be removed prior to install. Hitch itself took about 1/2 hour to install. Complete instruction were included as to how to install. Love these products. With minor modification put the center back on.

by:
2007 Pontiac Vibe

Great product and price. It took awile to install as the car was nine years old and the welded in nuts were a little corroded and filled with road dirt. Once cleaned out the hitch installed in just a few minutes. I could not be happier with the finished product unless the receiver could have been a 2" model to fit my bike rack. A 1 1/4 to 2" receiver was purchased after market.

by:
2007 Toyota Matrix

Very easy to install. The only "specialty" tool need is a torque wrench.92 lb ft for all six. But only one down side. The mount for the hitch contacts the bumper (shown in photos). But I can trim the pices of bumper off that it touches. Only reason it not five stars. Going on vacation soon and wanted to bring the bikes along.

by:
2006 Toyota Matrix

Easier to install than I though 2006 Toyota Matrix XR.
Didn't have to jack it up to install.
Also installed the T-One wiring harness only tool needed is a drill with a Philips #2 for the ground wire

Had to remove the lower trim in the back but it looks like it won't be missed. bolts for it are 10mm.

by:
2010 Pontiac Vibe

Installation took less than 10 minutes thanks to the 2007 Vibe having pre-drilled and threaded holes for the hitch.

2006 Ford Focus

I have bought 2 tow bars from etrailer.com, one for my 2006 Ford Focus from like 5 years ago, and another for my 2004 Pontiac Vibe this past fall. Both arrived on time and were super simple to install. I had trouble installing my Pontiac Vibe tow bar, but that was because the mounting holes on my car were a bit rusted over. I called customer support who walked me through cleaning those out, and I got it installed right away then. Their wiring harnesses are also super easy to install and the directions are clear and concise. I highly recommend etrailer.com for any towing bar and wire harness needs. I now can tow my sailboat wherever I want to go!

by:
2007 Pontiac Vibe

The only issue we had was 16 years of rust in the threads on the car. Once the threads were cleaned with a tap the hitch easily bolted on in a few minutes.

2010 Pontiac Vibe

I purchased a hitch and wire harness for my 2010 Pontiac Vibe from your company and couldn't be more delighted with the product and easy installation.
I'm 64 years old and had no problems at all.( I did view the installation video ) I believe I spend more time running the power from the battery than the hitch or harness.
Everything works great and because of the harness plugs ( not crimp on connectors ) I expect no future problems.
In this world, It's not to often the advertising matches the product.
Your company is the exception!!! Keep up the good work.
Great products and honest representation. Thank you!!!!

I ordered my trailer hitch on Sunday and it was delivered on Thursday. After cleaning the rust out of the mounting holes on the frame rails I installed the hitch. Installation took only fifteen minutes. My first time dealing with etrailer.com. It will not be my last. Very satisfied.

2003 Toyota Matrix

2003 Matrix XR The hitch was delivered quickly and it installed easily as described. I had to tap the weld nuts on the frame prior to installation.

The edges of the hitch push slightly on the molded plastic fascia of the bumper but no trimming of the bumper was required.

Looking forward to getting a hitch-mounted bike rack!

2008 Pontiac Vibe

The product arrived as expected and in good condition. The kit takes 15 minutes to put on once you have the weld nuts cleaned out. WD-40 and a wire brush were not sufficient to clean out the weld nuts. I bought a M12 x 1.25 tap. I ran this through each nut once and it allowed for easy threading of the bolts. It would be nice if the tap was included with the hardware or offered as an option to buy. Unless the car is brand new, the tap is what is needed to make this a quick and stress free install. Despite having metric and English tap sets I had to special order this not so common tap to do the job.

Unbelievably Fantastic! Ordered Sun at 2pm, order shipped at 4:32pm, delivered Wed 2:02pm, installed by 4pm.

And it also contained the correct grade 8 washers, unlike the other hitch I ordered thru another site for our other SUZ.

FANTASTIC service! Great job!

Working great!!! No problems at all!

by:
2003 Toyota Matrix

If your car isn't brand new I highly suggest getting an M12 1.25" tap, without it I would never have been able to put the bolts in. They were far too rusted and filled with gunk.

Otherwise the product itself works as it should and is a pretty good deal.

For etrailer.com I would just include an M12 1.25 tap as most people have brought this same issue up. Up the price a couple bucks and you can break even on it.

I have not been able to install the trailer hitch as the holes in the car frame are too rusted and not usable. If I could return the etrailer, I would do that.

It went on without a hitch (see what I did there). Seriously! Four bolts and run the wiring where it belongs. I did it at night with a headlamp and it worked flawlessly. A year later, it’s still tight and the wiring is solid. Thank you for a seamless and painless experience!

2004 Toyota Matrix

Installation was fairly easy. The hitch will fit the XR model after removing the rear spoiler. Hitch fit correctly but came with bolts that were one size too large. I would have left the Draw Tight and etrailer stickers on the hitch but they were put on crooked so I peeled them both off. Overall good product and great experience with etrailer.

Rather than sending the wrong hardware, what typically happens is that the nuts welded into the frame members get clogged up with road debris and corrosion, which makes the installation hardware difficult to install. The hitch should have arrived with M12x1.25x40mm bolts. If the threads were severely corroded, a thread tap is recommended to clean them. Id urge you to confirm that youve used the correctly sized hardware.

by:

Good fit. Had to ream the factory threads for the bolts to work but once that was done, easy bolt in. I have an XR model so I had to notch the lower valance. Looks good, just a little tight installing the receiver pin.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2009 Toyota Matrix Type S Carrying a Bike Rack
For your 2009 Toyota Matrix Type S I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12228. This is a Class II hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. It has a maximum tongue weight of 250 lbs to handle your bike rack. This hitch has a gloss black powder coat finish and a limited lifetime warranty. I would choose this hitch over the Draw-Tite # 24812 because of the higher tongue weight capacity. This means it can handle more weight from your bikes. It also does not have the same two bike restriction...

I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. There is no mention of having to remove the center fascia. All of the hitches for the 2006 Toyota Matrix XR are going to have about the same ground clearance. The best one in my opinion though is the Draw Tite part # 24812 as it does not require a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack like the Curt hitch does. Since this hitch requires total removal of the rear fascia on the XR models that means the hitch would sit up the highest of the ones available.

No, you will not. Draw-Tite Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 24812, is the correct hitch for your 2009 Toyota Matrix. It fits all models including those with rear fascia, and does not require cutting of the fascia.
