Correct Towing Capacity of Curt Hitch for 2004 Pontiac Vibe

Question:

I am going to order your 24812 Class 1 Hitch for my 2004 Pontiac Vibe (non-GT), but I realized I had another question. I also have the 3594 drawbar in my cart, but now I am unsure how I decided that was the correct drawbar for my Vibe. It seems somewhat long and not sure if I need that much rise. Is that the correct drawbar for my 2004 Vibe? Or is the Curt C45521 correct?

The correct capacity for Curt hitch # C12234 is 2000 lbs towing and 200 lbs tongue weight. I took a look at the owner's manual and it states that your 2004 Pontiac Vibe has a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 lbs, which is the weight you would need to go by.

That hitch does come with a drawbar and pin and clip, though if you are looking to tow you will also need a 4-flat connector, which you can add with T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118458. For a 1-7/8" hitch ball you would need # A-80 and for a 2" ball you would need # A-82.

Also keep in mind this hitch is going to require the use of stabilizing straps # 18050 with all non-trailer accessories such as bike racks and cargo carriers in order to maintain the warranty.

I've added a link to a demonstration video which shows you how the straps are used as well as links to video reviews of the other products for you to take a look at as well.

Hitch 24812 is only a class 1, so what is the distance/depth of the measurement from pin hole to tab? I have an old Graber bike rack that I intend on using and want to make sure it is going to work.

The distance from the hitch pin hole to the tab on Draw-Tite Sportframe # 24812 is approximately 1-1/2". This tab exists so that only Class I accessories are able to be used with the hitch, so your Graber bike rack will work with the Draw-Tite so long as it is a Class I compatible rack.

I can confirm for you that the correct drawbar for Draw-Tite hitch # 24812 is the Draw-Tite # 3593 despite Amazon's objections. Curt drawbar # C45521 is compatible with Class I and II Curt hitches and would be correct if you were getting Curt hitch # C12234. The Curt drawbar gives 1/2" more drop and rise and is 5/8" longer than the Draw-Tite drawbar so they are extremely similar.
