Only the larger vehicles like trucks and SUVs will have the higher capacity 2 inch hitch available. The 2008 Toyota Matrix is a lighter duty vehicle so it only has 1-1/4 inch hitches available for it like the # 24812 which is a custom fit.

You'd need to also go with a bike rack designed for this hitch size.

The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle is the Thule Camber 2 part # TH9058. We asked our demo and install guys to name their favorite, most easy-to-use bike racks and this one showed up in nearly everyone's top three. Check out the review video I attached for more info.

If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Kuat Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. I attached a review video for this product also. This will allow the bikes to be carried more level and will provide more ground clearance.

Yes I understand. I already have a bike rack. It is a Yakima HOld Up and I don't want to buy a new rack as this one cost $450. It needs a 2" x 2" hitch.

I spoke with my contact at Yakima and there is a replacement shank for your older Yakima Holdup 2 Bike rack , item # Y02433. The 1-1/4 inch Hitch Adapter for Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Carrier, item # Y80126, can be used to convert your rack to a 1-1/4 inch hitch mounted bike rack. You'd instead need the Class II hitch part # C12221 than the Class I Draw Tite I mentioned earlier though since this shank is Class II only.

For that we have the part # HTAD which will convert the 1-1/4 inch hitch to a 2 inch opening. You have to keep in mind that when you use an adapter like this you cut the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent due to the added leverage and movement on the hitch.
