The build quality of this hitch receiver is excellent -- wonderful fit and finish. It fit perfectly on my 2006 Jeep Wrangler, and the finishes all look very high quality. I put a 1up bike rack on the hitch receiver and have driven 3 bikes about 150 miles and had very little wiggling and jiggling. I am incredibly happy with the hitch and am an etrailer customer for life.

2001 Jeep Wrangler

Product arrived within two days and was in good condition. Installation was OK. Hardest part was getting the Class I hitch off the dealer had put on in 2001. I needed this one for a rear shelf attachment. I couple of tips below, however they may only apply to my situation: 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4.0.

1. To get the old hitch off which was a side and bottom mount, I had to remove the plastic bumper end caps.

2. As indicated in the diagram the silver carriage bolt plates should be inserted with the hole end towards the rear.

3. To use a torque wrench on the passenger side front nut, I had to remove the two screws holding the exhaust pipe hanger and let it sag temporarily.

This hitch receiver is very well built of high quality materials. Perfect fit, all parts were included and it came with accurate, easy to understand instructions. I added the reflective strips after the fact. They were not included with the hitch. I couldn't be happier.

Im very pleased with the hitch. I haul a small utility trailer occasionally and havent had any problem at all. Finish is holding up well and no signs of corrosion at all. Great product from a great supplier. Thanks Etrailer.

2019 Jeep Wrangler

I can't believe it's been a year already! I meant to leave a review in early 2019 about how easy the install was on my 2004 Wrangler Sport TJ, how clear the instructions were, how quickly the order shipped, and how competitive the pricing was ... but a year goes by quickly with a Jeep!

In the last year I've pulled trailers loaded with mulch and more, multiple boats, and even one of those hitch racks for the cooler. This hitch has never missed a beat.
Probably the best testimonial I can give is the stump extraction: I removed about a dozen ornamental bush stumps with a 2" tow strap loop and a chain -- piece of cake!

If you're on the fence, don't think twice. This hitch will bring a whole new sense of utility to your Jeep for years to come.

Easy install and quick shipping
Only
problem is the tailpipe rattles against it
Pro tip: mount the trailer plug in the hollow, stock bumper easy to do as well

Very pleased with the ease of install. I recently removed the hitch to address some surface rust on my frame and re-install was just as easy. Only issue I have is that my exhaust tailpipe rattles against the hitch so I will need make some adjustments to my exhaust

I priced out a complete receiver hitch installation kit from a local dealer and was quoted $310.00 Purchased the receiver hitch for my 2004 Jeep Wrangler from etrailer for much less than that and my son and I did the install in less than 30 minutes.
I shop on line for just about all purchases (107 in the last six months) This company is at the top of my list on all aspects of on line orders.

2006 Jeep TJ

I needed a trailer hitch for a small utility trailer and a bike rack. I was hesitant about ordering a hitch as the dealer had replaced the factory bumpers with tubular ones. I had read that this is sometimes an issue with clearance for the hitch. However, in a response to an earlier question on the site, etrailer had responded how much clearance was needed and where to measure from on the frame. I measured and had 1/4 inch to spare so I went ahead and ordered. It fit using the factory holes, and the reverse fishing technique as described in the directions worked perfectly and it was installed within a matter of minutes. Very pleased with the hitch and highly recommend it!

2000 Jeep Wrangler

Vehicle: 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport This is a two part review. The first is etrailer and their service. This was my first experience with them and I am IMPRESSED. I placed the order Tuesday night at 8:30 and it was delivered at 12:30 Thursday afternoon. Their communication is excellent. Their website is fantastic for tracking the shipment. I found myself checking it more often than I should have just to watch the progress on the map.

Part two: the receiver. Everything was right, nothing was damaged, everything fit, everything worked the first time. The packaging was good. The Curt receiver is solid with good welds and good paint. The holes lined up. The instructions were good enough. Oh yeah my only complaint is the carriage bolt heads were a little to big to fit through the hole in the frame. I had to cut maybe 1/8" off one side. Other than that you need to have a little patience in fishing the wire down through the frame. The first one took me at least 20-30 minutes and some serious words. The second one went though the first try and took 2 minutes.

This receiver is bigger than is needed for my Jeep but it keeps the hitch the same size as our truck and as long as I don't try to pull 4000LBS with it, oversize won't hurt. It was only $20 more for the 2".

All in all I'm very happy with the purchase and with etrailer.

Install on a 97 Jeep wrangler a year ago in Iowa winters and no rust. Use it more of a anchor when I get stuck. Tough as nail no bends or wear.

1999 Jeep Wrangler

Great quality and easy to install as per instructions. Thanks for a good product and helpful videos. The wiring harness was even easier to install (except for accumulation of dirt in my face from the covers.) use of safety goggles might be a good tip. My bumper is hollow on the back. Actually a piece of U channel, so after glueing a magnet to the plug I can hide all wiring out of sight behind it.

2004 Jeep Wrangler

Installed on a 2004 jeep wrangler. Installation was really easy and fast. Etrailer videos made installation a breeze. Installed by myself, only hard part was lifting hitch in place and catching the bolt, but I was able to lift one side into place and balance the other side on my knee. After that just install the rest of the bolts and make sure you have a 1/2 torque wrench that can tighten to 110 ft lbs. I highly recommend this hitch!

Needed a hitch for my 05 Unlimited Rubicon that didn't bolt from the side of the frame. This was perfect! 4 bolts, super simple install, and it looks great! I would recommend this hitch to anyone with a 1997-2006 Jeep TJ or Unlimited.

2006 Jeep Wrangler

Great product, fantastic accompanying hardware... particularly with regard to the wire to fit the bolt up into the frame with. Most companies wouldn't care enough to send anything like that with the order. There was a problem with the transaction, someone from the company called me immediately and I re-placed the order using PayPal with no issues. Shipping was quick and the product itself is very good quality. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

The trailer hitch receiver arrived quickly and installed easily. Appears to be well built and looks good. No complaints.

by:

received the hitch quickly after ordering - install was as easy as stated and took the removal of 2 bumper bolts and installation of 2 others then replacing them - tighten all 4 down and ready to go - fit was tight but it should be - highly recommended

Hitch was delivered faster than I expected. Ordered on Yuesday and delivered on Friday. I took the time to make sure the bolts were already freed up from the rust on my Wrangler so when I installed the hitch it actually only took 10 minutes.

Was towing the jet ski 30 minutes later.

2005 Jeep TJ

I read multiple reviews on ordering the right trailer hitch for my 2005 TJ, and decided based on the reviews that etrailer was the way to go. Installation from their videos looked simple and straightforward, and the overall reviews wee great. I ordered the hitch on a Tuesday, set it up for 3-5 day delivery, and it arrived Monday afternoon. I was hoping for a Friday delivery so I could install it over the weekend, but I didn't get my order in quick enough. Regardless, the product showed up on Monday and was very simple to install. The fishing method worked perfectly, and I had the entire hitch installed and torqued down within 30 minutes. I would highly recommend this company and this hitch. I'm attaching a picture (sorry I peeled off your stickers, I just wanted a cleaner look).

Ordered and received hitch for my 2001 Jeep Wrangler. Well packed and shipped quickly. Arrived with some welding slag particles in the box- not a problem- the welds looked good deep and clean, powder coating was perfect. Instructions were clear and concise and came with all of the hardware including some nifty spring/thread holders for the carriage bolts allowing them to be installed inside the frames. I initially had some trouble positioning the entire unit for bolt-up (I was working alone and had to rig up two rope slings to hold it up-tricky) - I thought that there might be some problem with fit of hitch to frame because it didnt seem to want to go into place. All of a sudden with a little pushing and coaxing the entire unit "clunked" into place. The mount angles were perfect, bolt holes lines up perfectly. All of the difficulty that I had experienced (not really that much) was because this is a PRECISION fit for the vehicle. I bolted and torqued everything down without an issue. Pulled my boat on the trailer later in the day, rechecked the torque and have had no problems. Now on season two, no rust, no problems. Absolutely would recommend without reservation. to anyone who needs a good, fairly low profile hitch for a Jeep Wrangler.

Trailer lighting harness kit which plugs into the passenger side taillight connector purchased at the same time installed in about 3 minutes and is excellent too.

So far no problems to speak of, some wear and tear of the powder coating inside the hitch receiver to be expected Ive been squirting some spray protectant into there from time to time when I remember to... Hitch still strong and looks good. Weve done a lot of trailering since COVID and this thing has held up well. Still highly recommended.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sport
Those two vehicles are different enough that they'd require two different hitches. For a Class III hitch that fits your 1998 Jeep Wrangler we have the Curt part # 13408 that would work well. This is a 2 inch hitch with a 4,000 lb trailer towing capacity. I attached an install video for this for you to check out as well.

  • Fit of Curt # 13408 Trailer Hitch on 1997 Jeep Wrangler w/ Smittybilt Aftermarket Rear Bumper
The hitches we offer for the 1997 Wrangler were designed with the stock bumper in mind. As long as your Smittybilt tube bumper doesn't sit any lower on the vehicle than the stock bumper would, the Curt # 13408 should fit. You can doe some measuring to confirm. Measure downward from the frame member where the hitch would attach by 1-3/4 inches. This is where the top of the receiver tube would sit. If the bottom of your bumper is any lower than that, the hitches we offer for the 1997 Wrangler...

  • Installation of Draw-Tite Class I Receiver on 2001 Jeep Wrangler
We no longer offer a class I hitch for your Jeep Wrangler. Was there a particular reason why you were interested in the Class I hitch? Due to their limited towing and tongue weight capacity, I typically recommend going with the Class III receiver if the option is available. A Class I and II receiver opening is 1-1/4 inches square, versus 2 inches square for a Class III. As the 2 inch receiver is more common, there is a greater variety of hitch accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers...

The biggest difference between Curt Hitch # 13430 and # 13408 is that the # 13430 has a round cross tube whereas the # 13408 has a square cross tube.
