Suitability of Draw-Tite Class I Receiver Part # 24631 for 1998 Jeep Wrangler with C Channel Bumper

Question:

The description on this reads that it will not fit a tube bumper. My 1998 Jeep Wrangler has the factory rectangular bumper. Will this work on my jeep? I want something with 1 1/4 receiver that bolts too my frame. Thanks

I have looked over the installation instructions for the Draw-Tite Sportframe Class I receiver. The hitch will fit the standard OEM C-Channel bumper. Two of the bolts attach to the Jeep frame, and two attach to the existing bumper.

The instructions include a cross sectional drawing that shows how the hitch mounts to the bumper. As long as your Jeep does not have the tube bumper, this hitch will work just fine for you.

Was there any particular reason you were wanting to go with the Class I receiver? I make it a point to recommend the Class III receiver, whenever that option is available. You will find that there is a greater selection of accessories such as bike racks or cargo carriers available for the 2 inch Class III receiver versus the 1-1/4 inch Class I.

The Curt Class III part # 13408 would be a great choice that would give you greater future flexibility, but the Draw-Tite model you were asking about would work great as well.
