An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Installation was a breeze, removed old bump stops installed Timbrens in about 30 minutes. Haven’t put a load on them yet so I’ll update later. Installed on a 2008 Silverado 2500HD..

So update after hooking up and towing my 38ft 5th wheel around last summer the Timbrens did quite well. Although they don’t eliminate all the rear sag they do eliminate most of it.

by:

These do their job well! I installed these on a 2006 Silverado 2500 with 250k on it. My rear springs were getting a bit weak and I wanted to help them out when towing my camper. These installed in about an hour but would have been quicker if I didn’t have rust to deal with taking out the old bump stops. The support they provided towing was great and made handling on bumpy roads much better. Solo my ride is a bit more harsh because my springs sag and these are in contact with the axle at all times. Unfortunately due to rust I can’t replace the leaf springs without it being a huge project so I deal with it. I’m very happy with these and would definitely use them again on another truck if needed.

by:

Received them today. Took me a total of about ten minutes to remove my factory brackets and install the new Timbrens. Towed a 3 ton load of manure with my half ton truck an hour later and I'm very impressed. Can't wait for wood season!

by:

Im glad I installed these for towing our 5th wheel. I like not having to diddle with air bags. However, at slower speeds you can feel a difference on rough roads. At highway speeds on average roads I do not notice them.

One year update: Timbriens are still doing great! I would buy them again. I would not want to tow a 5th wheel with out them.

2003 GMCSierra

I bought these to stabilize the rear suspension on my 2003 GMS Sierra 1500HD prior to buying a pickup bed camper. The Product arrived quick, is excellent quality, and was very easy to put on. While i can’t review how it handles with a camper yet, reviews from previous purchasers made me confident that this will work just fine and I don’t have to deal with airbags.

What I can say is customer service is top notch, hence the excellent rating. When it looked like I might have had a potential delivery issue (i thought my package was delivered to someone else or worse potentially stolen…but it turned out USPS delivered to the actual post officer versus my address) , I reached out to the company and they were quick to respond to my concern, offered assistance, and was very professional and personable at the same time. This interaction makes me look forward to purchasing from etrailer in the future and would recommend them to others!

2009 Chevrolet Silverado

I put these on my 2500 HD Silverado with a Bull Dog ATV carrier and towed a 6000 lb. camper into the mountains this weekend. With the Timbrens and an equalizer hitch, I never felt a better ride on the highway towing before. These are much better than the air bags and no maintenance. My atv rack ways 300 lbs in the bed of the truck and the ride empty was not rough at all.

2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Great product, SO easy to install if there was a hard part i guess it would be getting the old bump stops off. I have an 04 Silverado 2500HD we have a 94 Elkhorn truck camper. These new Timbren springs took all the rock out of the ride. With out the springs suspension sagged 3 inches with the springs it only sags 1.5 inches witch is the gap to the axel from the spring. I used the spacer that was included. Product comes with all new hardware. I can get over how easy the installation was. Stock ride of truck remained the same after installation too.

by:

Best investment for my suspension. I have had them for over a year and haven’t broken any springs these were my third set of springs. I can fit 7-1/2 yards of wood chips on a full load averaging 6200 lbs. and tow a 6800 lbs chipper!!!

by:
2008 Chevrolet Silverado

Finally received them. The OEM bump stops were difficult to get out, since theres only nut on the top side of the flange and none on the bottom. I used a Sawzall to aid. Installation was easy. HAve't drove with them yet but sonce I left the suggested 1" gap between the Timbren bottom and the top of the axle, all should be well.

by:

The installation was on a 2009 Silverado 2500 HD 4X4 and the product fit perfectly! Installing them was a snap! They really made a difference when towing my 5th wheel RV.

by:

Not as good as Sumosprings. The Tibrens on the rear of my truck are way too stiff, and don't have a gradual compression. It's like riding a rigid frame

Since the springs are not an adjustable spring, some people feel that it does create a stiffer ride when not towing with a load on the truck. For a 2004 Chevy Silverado there is several alternate air bags available. I recommend taking a look at part # F2250 from Firestone. It works with 2 or 4 WD and with in bed hitches.

GMC

The springs have eliminated the squat and have softened the suspension while towing. While unhitched, the rebound is very limited and a bit tough going over bumps or pot holes. I have to admit I installed the additional “hockey pucks” that came with the kit. If I remove them and just install the springs, the rebound would be increased and soften the ride. My tow vehicle is a GMC 1500HD. The installation was very simple. I am very satisfied with this product. If you are finicky with ride quality and do not mind spending more money, try the airbag kit.

by:

I’ve used Timbren suspension products on over 5 vehicles that I tow with. 100% happy with performance, ease of installation, product quality and durability, and improved vehicle handling. All of which leads to peace of mind on the road. I chose Timbren over air bags due to cost, simple parts, and not having to worry about compressor failure or air issues. If I’m unloaded, Timbren suspension is off the bump stop and ride quality is great. When I’m loaded, Timbren suspension engages and I get on down the road. No need to play with air pressures and potential system failures. I highly recommend this product. Always ensure vehicle fitment so you get the correct Timbren system for your application.

Perfect, fixed sagging problem when pulling dump trailer

by:
2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic

Use on my 3/4 ton with an in bed salt spreader. Works great!

by:

These were exactly what I needed they only get used when you have a heavy load so there is no change to the ride quality, very heavy duty and well made. I also purchased front ones for my truck because I use it for plowing and made the truck so much better when having the plow attached, I highly recommend, also there were both pretty easy to install.

After one year still exactly what I needed, I had to completely redo the frame on my 2001 Silverado and the bump stops are still in perfect condition I will be reinstalling them as soon as done with the frame, and I still would highly recommend these

by:

Easy to install, works as advertised. Highly recommend

Nissan Leaf

I carry a few more tools in the back of my truck than the average person does. My main leaf springs, just touch the overload springs in my day-to-day activity. I wanted to lift the truck up just enough to reposition my springs into the unloaded position.

Then when I hooked up our 9,000 lbs. travel trailer the springs would be in a better position to handle the additional load. The Timbren enhancement system worked just the way I had hoped. I would recommend these to anyone who might want to do the same thing that I did.

Joe

After one year of pulling our TT the Timbren springs are working just like the day they were installed. I cant see any compression of the springs after 15,000 miles of towing. I would recommend these springs to my friends.

by:

Removed my old air bags after fighting leaks for 6 months. Installed the solid rubber TGMRCK25S. Truck rides a little stiffer, but the body roll has been almost eliminated. Lot more stable in turns. My truck is a bit overloaded with my camper but is level and not mushy as before. Great product.

Buz E.

7/17/2020

Ive had the TGMRCK25S instled for over a year now and couldnt be happier. I have a 2007 GMC 2500HD with a Artic Fox 990 cab over camper. The body roll is minimal and overall stability ks greatly improved. Great product.

by:
2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

I installed a set of these on my 2016 R 2500 to control body roll when hauling my slidein camper. It completly eliminated the body roll when loaded and improved ride when empty. It is very easy to install and works better than described. Both sets arrived within 2 days of order. Another benefit over airbag system is if your truck is on rack for repair the timbren will not be damaged when truck is raised on lift.

Don

I am completly satisfied with the timbren suspension aid. It stopped the body roll on my truck wirh my slidein camper on. Thanks for selling a quality product.

Not Made in China! but from our neighbors up North. Good quality and easy installation on a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado HD Duramax 4X4. Installed the kit with the additional round block that is barely resting on the rear axle. I purchased the kit to avoid heavy trailer tongue weight that was causing an uneven vehicle stance. Haven't had a chance to road test yet. I hope is doesn't affect the factory ride.

If you do test it without a full load and the ride is too rough, you can remove the spacer.

Chevrolet Silverado 2500

The Timbrens gave me about 1/2" lift assistance with a 2200# load in my Chevy 2500 pickup. I recently changed to a 5th wheel with 2500# hitch weight. I was very pleased that the Timbrens where sufficient to keep the truck level and I did not need to install air bags. This is my second set of Timbrens. The first I bought at a local shop and had them install them. I bought the latest set from etrailer, and they were very easy to install, and I saved about 30%.

by:
2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

I installed this on my 03 GMC 2500 Duramax ex cab Long bed. The reason for the installation was, when pulling my 35 foot Hitchhiker 5th at night my headlights
at low beam were too high and causing problems for oncoming traffic,. This was
caused by deflection in the rear springs. The installation corrected the problem.
I carry tools and other equipment in a 29x56 inch in bed tool box that is mounted
in the front of the bed, the box loaded weight I would estimate 135lbs. There is
also a 20k Reese hitch which is mounted in the bed and I would estimate the weight with the mounting rails as around 100lbs, with there combined weight
empty ride is like axle is a solid hookup to the frame via the rubber bumpers.

by:

The product serves it's purpose by transferring the load directly to the axle. Thereby bypassing your suspension system. As expected, this removes sway and stabilizes the towing experience. While that is ok, this also transfers vibrations and bumps encountered from road conditions, that are normally mitigated by shock absorbers, directly into the ride experience. But due to the tough rubber composition, this is minimized. Be aware, however, that loads directly transmitted to the rear tires without shock reduction can increase the stress on them resulting in a higher potential for damage if they are older. Might accompany this product with fresh tires.

by:

I recommend it for your truck!! I bought it for my 1/2 ton 2006 silverado 1 year ago. Even tho he had 3 leaf spring and a helper in each side.. when a was towing my 2 axles enclosed trailer it made a significant difference.

I have a 3/4 ton now. With 5 leaf spring and a helper. I haven't bought some for this one, but i will be looking into it depending on my need's in the future...

The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement # TGMRCK25S will indeed help to fight the bouncing you are experiencing when towing your 3600lb camper trailer with your 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 2WD but I do not recommend going with this option. The reason for this is the # TGMRCK25S is rated for 6000lbs of weight which is way over the tongue weight of your trailer and as such you will have a very stiff loaded and unloaded ride. Instead I recommend going with the SumoSprings # SS45MR which have a 2800lb...

  • Timbren Suspension Enhancement for Slide-In Camper Carried by 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD

The # TGMRTT35S includes the necessary hardware and spacers for installation.

  • Will Timbren Springs Keep Leaf Springs from Flattening Out on 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic 3/4 Ton
The leaf spring stack on the 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic 2500HD does not seem to bow very much as it is but with the Timbren springs installed, # TGMRCK25S, it would keep them from flattening out as much as they do now on your truck. The Timbren spring will engage the axle before the spring stack is compressed for a more stable ride. I have linked a video showing installation of this kit for you and a link to our help article on Timbren springs.
