Can Timbren Springs # TGMRCK25S Be Used in Place of Weight Distribution on 2005 Chevy Silverado
Question:
I have Chevrolet 2500 HD Crew Cab 4WD and pull a travel trailer that weight about 9500lbs. I now use a weight distribution hitch with a anti sway attachment, which is a hassle and poor design. Would the Timbren system allow me to not to have to use the distribution hitch and just use the anti sway attachment?

A suspension enhancement system like the Timbren Springs, part # TGMRCK25S, you have referenced, is primarily designed to suspend the weight of anything carried on your 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. Although they would indeed eliminate the sag on the rear of your vehicle, the tongue weight of the travel trailer applied to the rear axle of your Silverado would lower the amount of the vehicle weight applied to the front axle. This is potentially dangerous because shifting too much weight away from the front axle of the vehicle can cause diminished steering and front braking response, since the front brakes provide the majority of the stopping power.

A weight distribution system that is properly matched to the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer is your best bet. Rather than providing a fulcrum at the rear axle that can dangerously lighten the front end of the tow vehicle, weight distribution uses leverage provided by spring bars to transfer a portion of the trailer tongue weight from the rear axle to the front axle of the tow vehicle. This provides a level ride height for the trailer and the tow vehicle.
I would recommend to use a weight distribution system.
If the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of your trailer is 9,500-lbs, I would recommend to use the Reese Weight Distribution System, part # RP66561. This system has a tongue weight capacity range of 700 to 1,400 lbs. This tongue weight capacity will cover the 10 to 15 percent tongue weight range of your trailer. For a ball use # 63840.
