One of the more popular cooling systems available, the radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger provides increased surface area so that fluids can spread out along the finned chambers to cool faster. In addition to the increased surface area, this cooler also features turbulator technology, whereby fluids are agitated continuously, not only to facilitate heat transfer, but also to prevent any undesirable drop in pressure.

Jeep Wrangler

The product is great, the only issue I had was that it did not have the correct connectors for the Jeep Wrangler, but I was able to get some quickly. It's kept my Jeep's Trans fluid temp nice and cool, even when pulling my 3k pound travel trailer.. GREAT!

by:

Easy to install and has worked great on my '06 4Runner v6. A little extra piece of mind for the mountains. This size just barely fits on the passenger side of the radiator - there is a central, vertical support bar behind the grill that prevents a wider cooler from fitting.

by:

I can not install the transmission cooler BECAUSE the other parts ordered has not arrived.

by:

This Transmission cooler really works well. It keeps my transmission much cooler while towing heavy trailers. I connected it in series with the factory coolers for a lower operating temperature. If towing or hauling heavy loads I recommend this plate cooler. Also plates remove more heat than tubes.

This cooler is great. The transmission even towing rarely ever gets above 150 degrees. Heat is the main cause of transmission failure and fluid turning to varnish. Highly recommend this cooler.

by:

Packaging was damaged but no damage to cooler due to solid construction. Had done online searches for installation tips and suggestions. All very beneficial. However, this cooler is larger than many I saw online and I had to find an alternate installation location. I was able to find a suitable location in front of radiator and minor modification (drilled two additional mounting holes in mount bracket and trimmed one corner for clearance.) Overall has shown lower transmission operating temps. Have not towed since installation and hope that lower temps carry over to towing a load. I give this product, shipping, and customer service a thumbs up.

by:

This was easy to mount in front of the radiator, and connections were correct to run as 2nd trans cooler for Armada, towing 6500lbs. Immediate change to about 15-20 degrees on long uphill climbs. Just need to inform the tranny guys that it takes more fluid whenever you get a change.

by:

Replaced Trans cooler on 1 ton. Temps running lot lower than stock cooler.

by:

Parts arrived fast and in good condition. My setup needs recessed mounting, and I must use the cooler's bolt holes for proper clearence and support. Supplied plastic ties and foam are not quite enough for a secure mounting, and the supplied hose barb fittings are nice aluminum, but I need a 1/2" barb end, not 3/8". These little things are no problem. I'm happy and will buy from e-trailer again.

by:

Works great to cool the air going into my Air Compressor tank.

1999 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Installed it on a 99 Ford F250 with a diesel, that was having transmission overheating problem when towing a trailer. Fixed the problem.

by:
2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

This aux transmission kit was easy to install and did just the trick in bringing my engine and trans temps down form towing my trailer. Definitely recommend!

by:

Works great. Easy to install. Instructions were also good. I also believe this site had videos on the install as well.

I added the cooler brfore going on a cross country trip. So far, I have climbed the ozark mountains , Guadalupe mountains, kings canyon and death valley. The highest temperature so far was 186. I'd say it is working better than expected

1996 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Really sturdy and heavy duty, had to move my tire for install but not relocate it on my 96 f250. Took me a little over an hour, had pre existing holes so I only had to drill two of them out.

by:

Good product. Great instructions. For me, easy to install

  • Recommendations for Cooling a C4 Transmission in a 1966 Ford Bronco Rock Crawler
It sounds to me like you will definitely want to upgrade your transmission cooler. Since you will not have a cooler that is being cooled by the fluid running through the radiator, I agree that you will need to upgrade or add a cooler to your system. Heat Sink Coolers like the Dual-Pass Heat Sink Transmission Cooler, item # D13266, that you referenced are not nearly as efficient as a plate and fin cooler or a cooler with an electric fan added. If you are running an electric fan with high...

  • Proper Clearance for Derale Series 9000 Transmission Cooler Part # D13614 in 2010 Chevy Impala
The Derale Series 9000 Transmission cooler can mount either in font of or behind the radiator. The unit measures 11 inches in length, 11-3/8 tall (including mounting tabs) and 1-1/4 inches thick. As this is not a vehicle-specific product, you will have to examine and measure the areas in front of and behind your radiator to see if the proper clearance exists. The preferred mounting location would be in front of the radiator for maximum air flow. Installing the cooler behind the radiator...

  • What Transmission Cooler and Installation Kit for 1997 Ford F-350 7.3L V8 Power Stroke Diesel
We have several options in transmission coolers for your 1997 F-350 7.3L V8 Power Stroke diesel and all can be seen on the link provided. Coolers are not vehicle-specific so you can use as large a cooler as you have space to mount it. The linked articles will give you plenty of useful guidance about placement that will guide your choice. If your truck uses 1/4-inch or 3/8-inch NPT trans-line type fittings you will need to use install kit # D13014; if it uses 1/2-inch-20 partial thread...

  • Best Transmission Cooler for Off-Roading in a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser in Year-Round Warm Climate
The Class rating applied to transmission coolers is to help simplify choosing a cooler for a vehicle. Basically you would think about it in terms of a hitch class rating. So for example if your 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser has a Class III hitch then a transmission cooler shown as a Class III is a good match. But ultimately you can use any cooler that fits in the intended mounting location. Derale transmission cooler # D13503 is a very popular option. It is a Class III but if you want something...

  • Which Transmission Cooler would be Good for a 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 used for Snow Plowing
With the kinds of load that a plow truck would be pushing, I would recommend using a transmission cooler on the large end, especially since it is a 1/2 ton truck. The Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Class V cooler you were looking at would be a good choice. They radiate plenty of heat due to their all aluminum construction. The cooler measures 11 inches wide, 11-3/8 inches tall and 1-1/4 thick. Locate an area in front of your engine radiator that you would like to mount the cooler and make...

  • Is 200 Degrees too Hot for Transmission Fluid of 2009 Chevy Tahoe
As long as the transmission fluid temperatures are staying under 220 degrees you are pretty safe but keeping the fluid as cool as possible only helps so going with a larger or more efficient cooler like the Derale # D13614 in place of or in addition to what you have would be a really great idea. There really isn't such a thing as a cooler that is too big as long as you can make it fit.

  • Can the Factory Transmission Cooler be Bypassed on a 2005 Chevy Tahoe
If you choose to bypass the factory transmission cooler on your 2005 Chevy Tahoe then I recommend a large cooler that will fit and the most efficient design. If it were me I would go with cooler kit # D13614. It is rated ad a Class V, extra efficient, which would definitely work better than the factory cooler. Remember that you will need to plug the factory cooler inlet and outlet if you bypass it with this method. I have linked a video review of this cooler and a link to our help article...

  • Can a Supplemental Transmission Cooler be Used to Bypass Factory Cooler on 1996 Chevy K1500
A lot of people want to bypass the factory transmission coolers located inside the radiator. It is permissible to do so provided that the cooler is efficient enough. For this we recommend either going with the largest cooler that will fit in the engine compartment or the most efficient design. The most efficient design is a stacked plate such as # D13403. If you want to go with a plate fin design you can use # D13614. These are both rated as Class V which is the highest available. Another...

You want to install the Derale supplementary transmission cooler # D13614 on the return line from the radiator. You'll need Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting # D13035. To determine which line is the return line you will want to start with your truck totally cooled off. • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2007 GMC Yukon XL
Both transmission cooler # D13504 and # D13614 can be used on your 2007 GMC Yukon XL. The difference is the capacity. The larger # D13614 has more capacity so it is more efficient but it also takes up more space. If the larger cooler fits I recommend going with it. You can use fitting # D13035 with either cooler to avoid having to cut and flare lines.

The Derale Transmission Cooler, part # D13614 is designed to work with your 1995 F-250 with the 7,3L diesel. Since you said you have a small cooler already I recommend running the fluid through the cooler you have and then through the # D13614, and then through the radiator. This would be the optimal way to cool your fluid. To make it much easier to install the hoses it is recommended to use part # D13024 if you have 1/2-inch-20 threads. Both the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler # D13613 and # D13612 will work for your application but I recommend going with the slightly larger # D13613. The 8-7/8 inch height on this unit (compared to 6-3/8 inches on the # D13612) will provide more space for the fluid to travel and thus allow for more efficient cooling on your GMC Safari. • Will a 3/8 Hose Fit an 11/16 Inch Fitting to Install a Transmission Cooler on a 2006 GMC Sierra
There is a lot of pressure within the transmission lines of a vehicle, including your 2006 GMC Sierra so the tighter the fit the better. If an 11/32 inch hose is needed then I would go with it over a 3/8. Cooler # D13503 isn't really large enough or efficient enough to allow you to bypass the factory cooler. It's not necessary to install the adapter during installation if you don't want to have your oil cooled as well.
