It’s great! Easy to install. Instructions are very clear. I always watch several videos and read several articles before I tackle any project. This installation was very clear, precise and straightforward. I did have to lower my spare tire down to get my torque wrench in and also had to ‘push’ the drivers side bumper bracket with some ‘Persuasion‘ but was not hard to figure out. I really appreciate the craftsmanship put into this piece of equipment and I look forward to many years of towing. Thank you etrailer

I haven’t had any issues with this hitch, I have used it any chance I get and I’m super excited to use it when I do. I just love towing things that I need to and enjoy it even more now that I have this hitch installed. Makes my load feel more secure when driving. Thank you again Etrailer

2003 ToyotaTacoma

Installed this by my lonesome, on the ground on my 2003 Toyota Tacoma. All went pretty smoothly with the exception of the 2 outer bolts on the bumper. The bumper and the bracket need to be clamped together to pull some of the slack out to get the threads to align. This is no fault of the Hitch, it just spaced the bracket and bumpers a little further apart.

The hitch itself took less than an hour including the removal of the bumper and the brackets. The bumper's outer bolts-well that was a different story. Finally used C-clamps to connect the last 2 bolts. Impact drill with a 1/4 to 1/2" adapter, 6" extension, and 19mm socket helps considerably.

Great product, but if you're going to attempt this by yourself, you're going to need good human body mechanics especially if you're doing it on the ground. Should be an easy install if you have a lift available or some tall car ramps. BTW I'm 68 years old and a 140 lbs.. Only 1 pinched palm spreading the hitch to the frame. Overall a successful install.

[A competitor] wanted $343 plus tax to do the install with the hitch and no harness. Almost $500 with the harness.

I am always skeptical of ordering items from a website that I don't know too much about. I decided to give it a try because I have an older truck and couldn't easily find the part anywhere else. I am very happy that I made that decision!

The customer service that I received was immaculate, the installation instructions were amazing and easy to follow, and as for the product itself, I couldn't have been happier. It has been a year since I installed the hitch and haven't had a problem with it. I have been able to haul anything that my little 2003 4-cyl Tacoma can pull.

by:
2002 ToyotaTacoma

Mounting brackets were about 1/16" too narrow for easy mounting and steel was thick enough to not bend easily. Had to use hydraulic jacks and force into position on frame from below. Otherwise it works 4.0.

2004 ToyotaTacoma

My package arrived in poor condition. The box was ripped in multiple places. I had to buy my own bolts because they were not in the box. The hitch was scratched up in multiple places due to being exposed out of the box in some places back and front. They sent me spray paint to do touch up job on scratches/damaged areas and they sent me new bolts a week later. I was able to install my hitch a day after delivery due to needing to use it as soon as it arrived. My day was waisted going to the store searching for bolts.

by:
2019 Chevrolet Volt

The Hitch needs about 2 hours if mounting by yourself. NOTE: Once I spayed all bolts with WD-40 before I started and once I broke all bolts loose I use my 18 volt impact drill with a 3/8 socket adapter.
I took the advice of someone else post and used a couple of ratchet straps too the rafters to hold the bumper. I removed all 4 bumper bracket bolts from the frame (rear two have bolt and nut front two nut is built in to the frame) and slid it back let it hang. I then forced and or lodged the new hitch on the outside of the frame then I took another set of ratchet strap and ratchetted/pried it into place. I then lined up the four bolts and installed them loosely then I added the two new bolts and keeper plates and tightened them pretty tight. I then removed the 4 bumper bracket bolts (Now worries two new bolts and keeper plates Hold up the new hitch) now everything should be aligned when I pushed the bumper with brackets back in place. That when I realized what I had read about the TABs being tricky… These TABs are on the bumper bracket and they have a slot in them so when you push the bumper in toward the front of the truck they help it line up. But after the New hitch is in place they no longer work the same because the hitch bracket is now in the way. So I ended up tacking the driver’s side (either side would work) bumper mounting bracket off the bumper (Two bolts same size 19 socket) because the TABs now have to go into the slotted holes on both sides of the new hitch. So I lined up the passenger side of the bumper with the TAB in the slot and installed the bumper loosely installed them, slid around the other side lined up the bumper bracket on the frame/New hitch and loosely tightened then I lined up the bumper and reattached it. Then I went around and made sure the alignment was where it was supposed to be and tightened and torqued all now 6 frame/hitch/bumper bracket bolts to spec… I also tightened the two bumper bolt. Note: Don’t forget to reconnect any license plates lights or trailer wires.

The trailer hitch arrived mid morning
on December 30, slightly ahead of schedule so that was nice. The e-trailer video made it extremely easy to install. (seeing it done step by sep is a great thing for us do-it-ourselvers).It took my son and I about 1 hour from start to finish. Everything fit exactly as it was supposed to. We are not the greatest of photographers but we've attached a couple of photos. Main purpose for the trailer hitch was to install a bike rack so our son can transport his bikes to and from the trails more efficiently than using an old pallet and bungee cords. Mission accomplished!

Etrailer was absolutely fantastic in terms of immediately letting me know that our first choice was not available until mid January and offering replacement options that were immediately available. Of the options we chose the Curt. It appears to be a very well made piece of equipment with all parts supplied and clear instructions. Delivery and tracking was excellent. Installation, including the helpful video was great. Price was economical. All in all my first experience with etrailer was outstanding! Many businesses would do well to come and see how a first rate business such as yours is run.

1999 ToyotaTacoma

The hitch I ordered arrived in less than a week. The 13013 Curt hitch seems very well made and should be great for moving my existing trailers around with my small Tacoma. I also plan to purchase a small camper and or motorcycle trailer in the future so this hitch will see plenty of action. I did not trust the bumper as a tow device even though it has a hole for a ball. I recently tore the whole truck down and replaced the frame and I just finished painting it with POR-15 which seems rock hard and since the truck is being reassembled now its the perfect time to add the hitch.

by:
2001 ToyotaTacoma

Well made hitch and lights.

Installed
two of the same hitches and trailer lights. One was installed on a 2000 Tacoma pickup and one also on a 2001 Tacoma pickup. Took less than one hour to install the trailer lights, and about two hours each time to install the trailer hitch.

Installed everything by myself, but the hitch is better to be done with two people.

Getting the bumper off is easy. I parked the truck under the roof rafter of the house and fastened a big C clamp onto the rafter and tied a rope on the C clamp so I could hoist the bumper off without it falling.

I used a small foot stool to sit the hitch on. The foot stool was the same height as the frame on the truck so the the hitch would slide straight on to the frame.

Both installs had to spread open the side support flat steel on the hitches in order to get them mounted since their tolerance was so tight. Had to bang on the flat metal of the hitch with a big wooden mallet to open them up about 1/4" further so they could be pushed onto the truck frame.

The lights for the trailer was relatively easy to install.

by:
2000 ToyotaTacoma

The product arrived in great shape. I installed it in about 2 hours with my sons help removing the bumper, connecting the hitch into place and replacing the bumper. The installation is exactly as the video shows. It is straight forward. I haven’t towed the boat with it yet but will give an update down the road.

I received my items relatively quickly with the free shipping. The finish and quality are excellent. Installation went well on my 2004 Tacoma and the reciver is barely noticeable below the bumper. The bed extender looks perfect for carrying our 14 foot kayaks. Thanks etrailer!

Do the install with two people. Very easy, but tougher with one. Took about 2 hours by myself. Product is nicely finished, seems very well built. Will be hauling a trailer with firewood ect in the woods. I'm sure it will work well.

Working great 1 year in. Hauled many firewood loads. No problems.

Fairly easy installation, took an hour or two and two of us to get it in, but that was because of my truck not the hitch. Have been towing with it a year now and have had zero issues.

by:

Easy install and looks great on my truck. Would have rated excellent except that it should really include spacers so the bumper properly fits to the new location of the bumper brackets. As is everything is just tightened down so the brackets flex to the bumper width.

by: 11/24/2023

Packaging was poor, had to spray paint. Other than that. It was good!

by:
2001 ToyotaTacoma

Installed in less than two hours w/ my 6 yr old "helping" me. Put some Wd-40 on the nuts before you begin makes it that much easier. Mine was for a 2001 Tacoma. Watch the video on here before you do the job.

for me to install. No installation problems.
This is a quality product with quality service.. Less than a week

Hitch arrived right on time and installed in about an hour. Fit like a glove I had absolutely no issues installing by myself. Great product and excellent service. Thanks .

by:

Good quality hitch.Arrived promptly and in good shape. The instructions and video are easy to follow.I used a rope to bring it up close to where it needed to be and used a
C clamp on one side to keep bracket and hitch thigh against the frame on one side until I bolt them on.
The wiring harness was very easy to install.
Very satisfied over all, thanks etrailer!

by:
2004 ToyotaTacoma

Perfect fit for my 2004 Tacoma. Installed it myself with no help. However, a helper would have been, uh, helpful since removing the bumper and installing the hitch and reinstalling the bumper is a bit awkward alone due to the weight of them.

Tips:

1) Before reinstalling the bumper brackets on each side, get the forward-most bolt on each side started through the hitch into the frame weld nuts first. Then install the bumper brackets. The bumper brackets have slots for the front bolts so as long as you leave those bolts loose enough it's much easier to get everything aligned this way.

2) If you have a hitch ball installed in the step bumper already, you may have to remove it before you can get the bumper back on. The etrailer install video shows them leaving the hitch ball on the step bumper but on my truck there wasn't enough space between the receiver and the bumper for the nut on the bottom of the hitch ball.

  • Are Spacers Necessary When Installing Curt Hitch # 13013 On A 2004 Toyota Tacoma
No, you will not have to add any spacers on the driver or passenger side between the bumper and the bumper brackets when installing the Curt Hitch # 13013 onto your 2004 Toyota Tacoma. You will need to remove the two bolts mounting the bumper and remove the bumper from the vehicle. Then you will have to remove the bumper brackets, position the receiver against the frame and install the 1/2 inch bolts. No additional spacers are needed. The trailer hitch has a bolt-on installation with...

  • Tips for Fitting Curt Hitch # 13013 onto 2001 Toyota Tacoma with Rear Bumper
What you described is kind of a common issue with the install of the Curt hitch # 13013 that you referenced. We had a customer come back with tips on how to get everything lined up properly: Re-install the bumper brackets and make sure the tabs go through the slots on the side bracket." Ok, but then they must move forward to align the holes but the slot between the tab and the now doubled metal is not wide enough. Hence, I had to grind the metal out in order for the tab to clear.
