Weight of Curt 13013 Class III Hitch for 1998 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
Will this be alright on a 1998 4 cylinder Tacoma. Will having the hitch on while driving without the trailer effect the gas mileage? How much does this exactly weigh?

Expert Reply:
Minus the packaging, the Curt Class III hitch, part # 13013 will weigh a bit under 40 lbs. The effect of 40 extra pounds on your vehicle's gas mileage would be miniscule, you shouldn't notice a difference. The hitch will work great on your Tacoma.
If you'll be using the hitch for towing purposes, you'll need a few other items to complete your towing system. For a trailer wiring harness, use part # 118379 along with a # 18144 and a # 18140 mounting bracket. When we installed the hitch on a 2000 Tacoma, we found the hitch sat 22 inches above the ground. Since the average trailer coupler height is around 16 inches, you'll likely need a ball mount with a 6 inch drop like # C45070, but I'd recommend confirming the installed height of your hitch before choosing a ball mount. I'll link to an article that shows how to determine the rise/drop you'll need. You'll also need a hitch pin like # PC3 and a trailer ball like # 19260 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch.
