Had the hitch installed with the only use for a bike rack. It was $185 for the installation. The mechanic said it was one of the tightest hitch installations he had done in 40 years being a mechanic.Second time using the bike rack it was off because one of the bolts broke. Single bike not even close to exceeding the weight limit. Need to schedule to have it removed. Would not recommend this product to anyone who has a 2006 Subaru Impreza.

It is very unusual for this to happen with a hitch. Would you be able to send a picture of the location of the bolt? Have you reached out to the manufacturer?

Paul

@JennyN Top photo is the broken bolt, bottom photo is the hitch resting against the muffler. The hitch was used twice with a thirty pound bike and a thirty pound bike rack. It cost $185 to install, which having the bolt break the second time is unacceptable. I have seen several other 2006 Subaru Impreza with hitches that have way more clearance around the muffler and I would not recommend having this hitch on your website listed for an 06 Impreza. It has been a waste of both time and money. I have not reached out to the manufacturer. Etrailer is the company that recommended this hitch.

@Paul I apologize for the delay in my response. I did reach out to Curt and they advised that it is possible that the bolt was not torqued to manual specs or a stabilizing strap was not used with the bike rack. I see that you also had used an adapter with a rise. Were you using with the bike rack with the adapter? Using it will reduce the weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent, which would make the tongue weight 100 pounds. With the adapter taking the bike rack further back, it creates more stress on the hitch hardware

I had the same problem a lot of other reviews have complained about. The holes in the bracket were off by a full bolt diameter on one side. Fortunately I've alignment punches and I was able to bend the bracket into place. Unfortunately I don't have an M12x1.25 tap to clean up the threads I mauled. Also, I need to figure out how to rehang the muffler because neither of the hangers can be reused. 2000 Subaru Impreza.

Mounting holes on the hitch didn’t line up with the threaded inserts on the car frame rails. Exhaust hanger hole on the hitch was not located properly either.

Well that sounds like a flexed hitch problem to me. I have a link below that explains how to correct it for you.

by:

Had some shipping issues that were on UPS’ end. ETrailer (Samantha) made it right. This is the 3rd hitch I’ve purchased from them and I wouldn’t look anywhere else. Always an excellent experience.

by:

Solid hitch. Fitted to a 2003 WRX to mount a TireTail to bring a set of race tires to events. You can fit a 3in exhaust with this but I highly recommend extended hangers if you don't want to hear the occasional clank.

by:

Great buy and easy install on my 2005 WRX Wagon. Helps to have a second set of hands to help clear the exhaust/bumper and get things aligned.

I tow a kayak trailer around every weekend, and this hitch is perfect for the job.

2005 Subaru WRX
I've installed hitches
from trailers for customers multiple times, decided to give it a shot for myself. As expected, everything lines up perfectly. My hitch did not come with new bolts or a hitch pin, some do. Overall 5/5 for faster than expected delivery

2007SubaruImpreza

A very good product with clear instructions.

I
would suggest watching the videos on the website a few times. They have been well done.

Also to use a lift or ramps so you can work underneath the vehicle.

There was a bit of fiddling to get the tow hitch to fit but nothing major. The whole job was done in an hour.

I would also suggest another pair of hands.

I will be recommending this company for my business - I sell trailers and customers can order their hitches from etrailer.

Hey I am sorry that you have not been able to install the hitch. Was it the side bracket that was bent? Honestly sometimes the side brackets can become bent out of alignment while in shipping. If it is only off by a half of an inch, then it is possible to bend it back to install the hitch. I have an FAQ below that can help. Please contact us if you are not able to flex it back or install the hitch.

Ordered the drawtite brand first, then found out it wasn't going to be in stock for another month or two. Spoke with customer service and they changed my order to the Curt brand which arrived within a week of calling. Installed it the next day with no issues. Fitment was perfect and only took me about an hour to install. Product seems strong and built to last.

Got the job done and done well! If I remember correctly (this was a year ago) there was one part during installation that wasn’t lined up right on my ‘03 Subaru WRX. But i was able to install and got where I needed to go so all was good

by:

Quick delivery easy install, keep your driver side muffler hanger the hole in the hitch does.not line up well very happy

by:

I have not tested out the hitch but installation went ok. The only issue was the holes for the driver side did not line up. Must be a common issue because others [online] had the same issue. Not a big deal. Had to use a sledgehammer to get it straight. Took me quite a while to put on because I live in rust valley so bolts were a challenged to take out.

by:

Excellent Purchase experience -beyond expectation. I was given reliable purchase advice, from knowledgeable staff -rare these days. Good prices on a hard to find item. Delivery arrived 3 days sooner than expected. Can't do better than that. (And I am a critical purchaser)

by:

Was not lined up on bolt holes, had to heat and bend to fit. Other than that it works well.

by:

The install took minutes! Great fitment on my JDM wrx. It enabled me to tow my jet ski with no issues whatsoever. 10/10, would recommend

by:

Bolted right in only took 30 minutes to install. It is very strong and not too noticeable.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for Towing Motorcycle Trailer With 1995 Subaru Impreza
For you 1995 Subaru Impreza, I recommend the Curt # C11497. The Curt model features a fully welded, gloss powder coated steel construction and a concealed cross tube. You will need a ball mount. You'll also need a trailer wiring harness, part # C59236 is recommended. Finally, you'll need a trailer ball like # 19256. Although the hitch has a 2000 towing/200 lb tongue weight capacity, you might be limited by the towing capacity of the vehicle, if it is less. You'll need to abide by the...

  • Recommended Hitch and E-Bike Bike Rack for a 2005 Subaru Impreza Wagon
I would be happy to help, and I have a great bike rack and hitch, for your 2005 Subaru Impreza Wagon. You are correct the only hitches available for your car have a 1-1/4" receiver. Additionally they are also class I hitches which will eliminate you being able to use the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE item # HLY74FR because it requires a class II or III hitch. For a hitch, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch item # C11497. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Subaru with included...

  • Bike Carrying Options for 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX
If your Impreza WRX does not have a spoiler, a trunk mounted rack would be the most convenient option. Although we offer many different racks that are a confirmed fit, I would recommend the Thule OutWay 3 Bike Carrier # TH56BV. Typically, a trunk mounted rack would use straps and buckles that need to be adjusted each time the rack is installed or removed, which can be an awkward and time consuming process. The Raceway uses 2 retractable cables that allow the rack to be installed or removed...

  • Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2000 Subaru Impreza Sport Wagon without a Hitch
For your 2000 Subaru Impreza Sport Wagon we have several bike racks that are confirmed as a fit for this vehicle. If your Impreza does not have a rear spoiler, then I highly recommend the Thule OutWay # TH45JV for a 2 bike carrier or the # TH56BV as a 3 bike carrier. If your Impreza does have a spoiler, then hatch mounted bike racks are not recommended due to the additional weight that will be exerted on the spoiler. If you do have factory installed spoiler then you will want to use the...

  • Is There a Thule T2 Bike Rack that Fits 1-1/4 inch Trailer Hitch
I believe you are asking about fitting a Thule T2 bike rack in the Curt hitch part # C11497 that fits your 1997 Subaru Impreza. There is a T2 Classic that fits this hitch with the part # TH9045. It fits 1-1/4" hitches. Check out it's review video. The T2 in the other question that fits the 2" hitch could have been the Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2007 Subaru Impreza Hatchback
The trailer hitches that are available for your 2007 Subaru Impreza all top out at 200 pounds tongue weight so you would need a different way to carry the motorcycle. Basically, using the Impreza the motorcycle would have to be on a trailer. This is actually much safer and easier on the vehicle than a hitch mounted carrier. If your Impreza is a WRX but not an STi model then you can use Curt trailer hitch # C11497. The proper ball mount is # 3593. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for...

  • Fit of Curt Class I Trailer Hitch # C11497 on 2005 Subaru Impreza rs wagon
According to Curte , their # C11497 Class I hitch is indeed a fit for your 2005 Impreza RS Wagon. The hitch has a 2000 lb towing/200 lb tongue weight capacity. I've seen references online that say the Impreza has a 2000 lb capacity for automatic transmission equipped models and 1000 lbs for manual transmission models. I'd urge you to confirm that for yourself with your owner's manual or Subaru dealer. If you're planning on towing with the hitch, you'll need a few other items to complete...

A U-haul will not have brakes on a trailer that size, so you will need to stay under the 1,000 lb max without trailer brakes. For your components, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" Item # C11497.
