Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring for Towing Small U-Haul Trailer with 2004 Subaru Impreza Wagon
Question:
towing a small uhaul trailer I have a Manual Trans. Subaru Impressa wagon 2004. I want to tow a small 4x8 uhaul trailer. From the cars manual I see that 1000 lbs are okay without trailer brakes but I want to have more than that so I believe I need the trailer to have brakes. What is needed for the whole installation from the hitch, ball, lights, brakes, total all in.

Helpful Expert Reply:
Your 2004 Subaru Impreza wagon is as you stated allowed to pull up to a 2,000 lb max trailer with brakes. A U-haul will not have brakes on a trailer that size, so you will need to stay under the 1,000 lb max without trailer brakes.
For your components, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4"
Item # C11497. Then I recommend the 4-Pole Flat, Hardwire Kit, and Circuit Tester # C59236 for your trailer wiring harness. This will give you the 4-way you need for a small trailer. Then I recommend the Draw-Tite Drawbar for 1-1/4" Hitch # 3593 and then hitch ball # 19258.
