A snap to install

I bought a Curt trailer hitch from etrailer about 7 years ago. I just bought another one from them. When I need a new one, I'll order it from etrailer also. Excellent packaging BTW. No plastic or foam.

I frequently tow a utility trailer. The hitch is rock solid.

2009 ScionxB

I have a 2009 Scion XB with TRD exhaust. I didn't have any clearance issues around the muffler. The hitch is a high quality part. Without the bike rack in the receiver the hitch is almost invisible.
I'm very happy with this Curt hitch as well as the service from the guys at etrailer. Next project will be to install the lighting/wiring kit also sold by etrailer.

I installed this a year ago. I use it for my boat and bike rack. Works perfect, never any issues. Super easy install. If you can fit under your car and know how to screw in a light bulb, you can attached this with ease.

Needed a hitch for our 2015 Scion XB. Wiring kit was perfect but a problem with included bolts resolved by using 12MM bolts from a BMW?

It fit like a glove! Lined right up and came with the hardware need to install it. Fit and finish was great as well. I've had good luck with Curt products in the past and they didn't disappoint this time either and etrailer had a good price on it and good information about installation which is why I keep coming back.

Ordering from website was easy. Delivery was quick. Hardest part was finding a good installer. Next purchase will be a bike rack.

Fits perfectly and video installation is a huge help. Second hitch purchased (one for my juke) and they both are awesome. Saved me hundreds literally from having to go somewhere else to get it done.

This hitch was easy to install, still looks AWESOME on my xB with only the receiver visible, and has been exactly what I hoped for to carry my Kuat Sherpa bike rack. And etrailer is the place I'll get any other hitches I'll need going forward. Thanks!

Hitch has carried two bikes all over the country, 17 states to be exact. Best looking option out there for the xB. And etrailer folks are the best. Recently got a similar style hitch for another vehicle I own and etrailer came thru flying colors again.

Product arrived as promised. I liked the fact that I could keep track of where it was in the shipping process and approximately when it would be delivered. Installed it the same day it arrived with the assistance of the excellent videos of installation procedures for both the hitch and wiring. It helps to have a torque wrench and some basic wiring tools (wire end stripper and a crimping tool).
The only problem is that the hole on the retaining pin for the draw bar does NOT fit as the hole in the pin was drilled in the wrong place.

Bruce

In my review I said The only problem is that the hole on the retaining pin for the draw bar does fit as the hole in the pin was drilled in the wrong place. I inadvertently did not the word not. The pin does NOT fit in the pin because the hole was drilled at the wrong angle. I had to use another pin with the hole drilled at the proper angle.

Just finished installing the hitch receiver wiring harness on my 2012 Scion xb. The hitch receiver fit just like it was supposed to, and the wiring harness went in without incident. The directions in the video are a lot more clear than the written ones that came with the wiring harness. took about 2 hours total.

Actually, I have only used it once since I installed it. I have no reason to expect there would be any problems next time I use it..

by:
2012 ScionxB

I am very happy with the Hitch. I thought it was great that I could find the right fit for my car very easy and you had the wiring and any other accessories needed to do the job. Also great videos to explain installation. I put it on my Scion xB as easy as the video.

We purchased this product to give us added room in our xB for a trip to Disney World. It easily installed and worked wonderfully with the cargo carrier. etrailer was a big help and watched over our order to make sure it would get to us on time. I will look to them for all our future trailer needs.

One year later and everything is still working great!!!

by:
2009 ScionxB

Like the other reviews say, it's great, so I don't need to add more than that about how I like the product. I will add some information about the issues I ran into installing it. I have a 2009 xB with 77,000 Minnesota miles on it so the bolt holes were rusty. The two bolts that were removed from the tow hook were just fine but the other 4 were rusted enough that I could not get the bolts in. If you have the same situation you just need a 12-1.25 metric tap and a tap wrench for it. A regular wrench will put weird pressure on it and you may end up re-threading it, which will not be good. What I did was to use a 1/2" plumbing wire brush to first scrub out as much rust as possible. Then I squirted some WD-40 in the holes to clean them out some more. Once I wiped them out I applied some cutting oil to the tap, not that you need it but I had it, and carefully re-tapped the hole. The problem I ran into is that the muffler gets in the way of the tap on one hole so I had to push it off the hanger, which can be difficult. The method I ended up using in order to get it off the car side of the hanger was to use three 16p nails as ramps. I slid a nail in three points of a triangle under the rubber hanger so they were over the nub that holds it on. I then sprayed some WD-40 between the rubber hanger and the nails and then pushed on the hanger from the back side, from under the car, and then it popped off. Once all of the welded nuts were cleaned out it was a breeze to install by myself. Just hold it up enough to loosely thread in a couple of bolts and then you can loosely put in the rest. Once they are finger tight you can torque them and you are done. I didn’t bother with a wiring harness since it is only for a bike rack.

Best price perfect fit and it looks good. My brother says it was an easy install!! Thank you!!

by:
2014 ScionxB

The hitch fit perfectly and the wiring kit was easy to install. I used a class II hitch on a 2014 Scion xB with a Curt T-Connector 4-Pole wiring kit. I use this setup to haul an 4' x 8' harbor freight trailer and can easily make runs to home depot with loads nearing 1000 lbs. I don't miss my truck at all now.

by:
2012 ScionxB

Overall everything has worked as it should. My only complaint would be that I have pretty much always had some wobble/looseness of the drawbar in the receiver. It is actually audible when driving.

I was in the process of buying, and selling a house when I installed the trailer hitch, so the issue was overlooked due to the complexity of the move. I guess I learned to live with it, and hope it doesn't ever cause a failure.

by:
2008 ScionxB

Ya so far so good! I use it primarily for my Thule Rack for my bikes. Last year we drove to Denver for a womens tri and had my wife's bikes on the back. Couldn't have done it without a the hitch!

Thanks for following up.

  • What is the Difference Between a Class I and Class II Hitch?
Structurally, a class II trailer hitch is designed to hold a bit more weight than a class I. This is because the materials that compose a class II hitch are stronger. All class I and class II hitches have the same 1-1/4 inch receiver opening which are compatible with 1-1/4 inch accessories. I went ahead and attached a diagram that shows the typical weight capacity differences between class I and class II hitches. For your 2018 Ford Focus Sedan, we only carry class I hitches. For this route,...

  • Recommendation for Carrying a Pronto M91 Electric Wheelchair with a 2006 Scion xB
With the 2006 Scion xB having a maximum tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds, I am going to suggest a different option to pull the Pronto M91 electric wheelchair. You will need to start the same way with a trailer hitch, like the Curt # C11487, but you will need a few more parts to complete this set up. From here you will need a ball mount, like # C45521, a pin/clip to keep it in the hitch, # F-4, and a 2" ball, # A-82, to install in the ball mount. You will also need a wiring harness,...

  • What is the Difference Between Class 1 and Class 2 Hitches for the Scion XB
Class I and Class II hitches both have a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. The difference is that a Class I hitch has a lower tongue weight rating, usually 200 pounds and a lower towing rating, usually 2,000 pounds. A Class II hitch usually has a tongue weight rating of 350 pounds and a towing rating of 3,500 pounds. The only other difference is that accessories designed for Class II only hitches will not fit in a Class I Hitch. Class I accessories will work in the Class II hitch. I would recommend...

  • Tongue Weight of Draw-Tite 24815 for 2008 Scion xB
Tongue weight is roughly 10% of hitch capacity. The capacity of this Draw-Tite Class I is 2,000 lbs, making the tongue weight 200 lbs. We have a hitch with a higher capacity for your vehicle. The Curt Class II receiver hitch (part 12490) has 3,500-lb capacity, giving it a 350-lb tongue weight. Since the Scion sits very low to the ground, I would highly recommend a cargo carrier with a rise. You might try the 20x48 Cargo Carrier by Tow Ready, part # 63155, which has a 3 inch rise. This...

  • Hitch Receiver and Bike Rack Options to Carry a Pedego Interceptor E-Bike on a 2008 Scion xB
I do have a few different bike rack options for you, but since you are wanting to carry a pretty hefty E-Bike and the highest rated trailer hitch receiver (the Curt # C12490) is only a 1-1/4 inch receiver you do have a very limited range of choices. Even though the Curt receiver that I recommend, part # C12490, has a max Tongue Weight (TW) of 350 lbs you will want to check that against what the owner's manual says for your 2008 Scion xB and go with whichever weight capacity is lower.
