Can a Hitch Extender be Used With a Curt Hitch Receiver to Carry 2 Bikes on a 2013 Scion xB
Question:
I am considering a C12490 hitch and a HES6 extension for a bike rack 2 bikes to be used on my 2013 Scion xB. The extension is needed so the rack can be placed in the upright position while not in use. I estimate the total weight rack and 2 bikes would be 100 pounds. Sound OK? Thank you.

Using an the Extension # HES6 in the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12490 on your 2013 Scion xB will reduce the hitch receiver weight capacity by 50%. Since this means the Tongue Weight (TW) will be lowered to 175 lbs, the total weight of your bikes and bike rack being 100 lbs will not be an issue. You will want to make sure to check any weight capacities in your owner's manual as well.
Keep in mind that for this Curt hitch all non-trailer loads (like bike racks and cargo carriers) but be secured with a Support Strap # 18050 per the Curt warranty. By using an extension you will see more play from the bike rack so it is a good idea to further secure it anyways.
