Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Its a pain in the butt to install, but once you do it's pretty awesome. Enough to install a hitch rack or tow my jet ski.

Its still functional. Quite difficult to install yourself without lifting the car up on a stand or jack. No issues once its bolted on there.

The hitch is pretty much what I was looking for. We're only using it to mount a carrier to haul two bicycles around with no intention of asking it to any more than that. In that regard the hitch receiver is exactly what we wanted. I think it could have been boxed better as the hitch had punched thru the box in a couple of places and the box was way too big for the product so it bounced around during shipping, I suspect. The interesting part was that the instructions that came with the hitch were for a Chevy Impala! The instructions and drawings had nothing to do with mounting the hitch to a Mazda 3 but the good thing is that etrailer has excellent photos showing how the hitch is attached to the car and I used those. I was working at night with a single flashlight but it only took me about 20-25 minutes to get everything where it's supposed to go! It fit perfectly to the car and is rock solid. The bike rack tends to wobble a bit but with it secured in place we know it's not going to go anywhere while on the road. I've included a picture of the whole setup with bikes.

The main thing is that I'm quite pleased with how it all turned out. We got what we wanted and installation was simple. When we get another car we will order another receiver hitch from etrailer.

Still using it! Nothings come loose and Id still recommend it. The only issue I have with the hitch is that the two looped bars I guess to attach a chain from a towed trailer can get in the way when I or remove a cotter pin for the bike rack. But I can work around that and get the job done. I thought about cutting them off but when we eventually sell the car the next owner might want that feature.

2012 Mazda3

Just got it and bolted it on, it took less than an hour. Some spots were hard to get a wrench in but you can make it work. It looks great and sturdy.

by:

I believe this is the third hitch I’ve purchased from etrailer.com. Each time I’ve been completely satisfied with the product and the service. Below are pictures of the hitch on my 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback.

by:
2010Mazda3

Owned for over a year. Installed on mazdaspeed 3. Consistently haul sailboat, utility trailer and bike racks. Held up great and has even taken a few blows from dips in the road. I would recommend it.

by:

It took me longer to gather my tools than install this hitch. Took me less than 10 minutes. I didn't even need the wire to fish the bolts through the frame on my Mazda3. With the rectangular washer attached, I held on to the washer and was able to put the bolt in the right spot easily.

My only complaint is that the hitch arrived with several spots where the paint was rubbed off and showing bare metal. It would be so easy for etrailer to take a few seconds to look over the hitch before throwing it in a box and shipping it out. I had to wait another week for a can of touchup paint. That's the only reason I knocked down the rating from excellent.

by:
2013 Mazda3

This hitch is awesome. The whole experience was great. Hitch shipped super fast and installation took me about 15 minutes. Instructions were clear and simple to understand. Sturdy construction and the connection points on the car are solid. Will definitely be coming back for any other hitch or bike carrier needs I have in the future. Thanks guys!

by:

Mounted easily, installation video was accurate.

by:

As described. Really easy to install. I backed my car up on ramps to have some extra room. Very discreet looking as well. You can only see the hitch receiver. You can not se the cross bar unless you are low to he ground.

by:
2010Mazda3

Excellent for a bike rack, it took me about 30 minutes to install it by myself with out a ramp to lift the car,i just put it on the drive way and it was enough room to work with.

by:

The hitch arrived quick and packaged properly. Attaching it to the car was relatively easy and I'm happy with the purchase from etrailer.

Greg

The hitch is working as well as when it was installed and the finish is holding up just as well. I would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of purchasing this hitch.

by:
2010Mazda3

Finish and fit were perfect. No drilling or welding required. Perfect for a bike rack. YES IT DOES FIT THE MAZDASPEED 3

by:

I like the simplicity of the installation; however, the hitch assembly width was 2 inches too short. I took it to a weld shop and had to cut in half and add another 2 inches for it to fit properly.

by:
2010Mazda3

This trailer hitch was a breeze to instal. It literally took me 20 minutes to instal! The fit was perfect. Couldn't be more pleased.

by:

A great hitch. I bought it to support a beefy, tray style, bike rack. It works perfectly for that. It was simple to install myself.

Bill

2/5/2023

Still as good as the day I bought it.

by: 12/30/2023

Easy to install and performed flawlessly for 4 years.

by:

Fast shipping, easy solo install took me about 30minutes to do with ramps and a jack to lift the hitch into position. This is my fifth hitch order from etrailer over the past 16 years and I’ve been very satisfied every time.

by:

Extremely easy to install. I did it alone (no help) in about 20 minutes. I can finally pull my trailer with my car! Thanks etrailer!

by:
2012 Mazda3

Product arrived as described! It fit my 2012 Mazdaspeed 3 perfectly can't wait to use it! Installed it myself took me about 15 minutes with no Jack.. I recommend this product now let's see how it holds up.

by:

Took me about an hour to install. had to run to Lowes and grab a deeper 11/16ths socket. Other than that a piece of cake!

Mark C.

11/2/2016

Thanks for reaching out. Thing has worked great for me. The car is pretty low so sometimes it scrapes going in or out of bad driveways, and I should probably get under there and tighten it up, but yeah, super satisfied with the purchase.

by:
2013 Mazda3

I have not used the hitch yet, even though I installed it two months ago. Life gets in the way. But the install went relatively smoothly. I read where this can be done by yourself by using bricks to hold one side up while you secure the other, but me, I got a helper and that was still a bit of a challenge. The instructions are as good as can be expected I suppose, but the there is no substitute for the video that etrailer creates for your vehicle. Whenever you get 'stuck' on something, you just go back to the video and it made it perfectly clear which screw to use and how to thread the screw to the right location. Without the video, I would have become frustrated. The only minor issue I had was needing to buy a deep well socket for two of the bolts. The bolts are too long. I guess the extra length comes in handy for initially trying to put the nut on the bolt, but after that, just a bit too long. As stated, I have not used the hitch yet, but have no reason to believe I will have any issues. Very happy with my purchase - very good support team at e-trailer.

Gerardo

A year later, Ive had no issues and no regrets buying this hitch. I would definitely use etrailer on future purchases.

2012 Mazda3

At this point I am not happy with this hitch. Claims to have a 200 pound tongue load but I can actually see and measure deflection of the reciever when placed under only a 120 pound load. This measurement is compaired to the body and not the ground, etc. This is a real safety issue for me. I am currently having Etrailer contact Draw Tite to show validation of testing on this model (Mazda 3 2012 Hatchback). I question if it is actually a sub class 1 (ie tongue load rating of 125 lbs). I do not recomend this product until these safety concerns are answered. If the hitch is not torquing around the 1.25" draw bar then the frame connection points chosen by draw tite are sub standard location points.

Scott P.

10/19/2013

I hope that I do not have to follow behind your trailer. The hitch is rated for up to 200 Lbs tongue weight but not your car.

Great

by:
2013 Mazda3

Great hitch. Shipped out next day, arrived in 2-3 days, install was straight forward. Make sure you have a deep socket (11/16") because the vertical bolt by the muffler was too tight to get a wrench at. Otherwise, installation was straight-forward and exactly as advertised on the website and video. I would highly recommend this hitch.

Scott S.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2013 MazdaSPEED 3
Yes indeed! Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24843 does fit the 2013 MazdaSPEED 3. If you plan on doing some towing you will also need the recommended ball mount and a ball. Use # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 19258 for a 2 inch. For trailer wiring, if the vehicle has the Grand Touring LED tail light package use # 119179KIT. If it does NOT have the Grand Touring LED tail light package use # 118420.

Your assumptions regarding the Hidden Hitch trailer hitch 60259 (discontinued) and the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24843 are correct. They even share the same instructions which I have linked for you. The recommended ball mount for this hitch is # 3594 and you can use 1-7/8 inch ball # 19256 or 2 inch ball # 19258. I will be happy to make some hitch recommendations for your 2011 Mazda 3 Sport hatchback. I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24843. The reason I recommend it over the Curt option is because with Curt you would have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using the hitch with your bike rack per the Curt warranty requirements. Draw-Tite does not have that requirement. While there are 1-1/4 to 2 inch adapters that would work there are a couple of problems. First, the use of an adapter...
