Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Hitch is a great fit for our vehicle, however, the unit was not packed or shipped with much care. The hitch was delivered with large scratches and pretty banged up because it was placed very loose in the box. I have bought maybe 4 hitches through etrailer and this is the first time an item was sent with such lack of detail (at least that I can remember.) Hope this is not the standard for the future.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you. I recommend touching up the affected places on the hitch with a rust resistant paint. This will help to prevent rust and also you will have it on hand for regular hitch maintenance.

Never heard from customer service, but the hitch has been great. Durable, and only a few times has ot scraped on steep slopes. Would highly recommend.

2011 Toyota Camry

The hitch was exactly as ordered and fit perfectly. It is sturdy and a great value. It arrived quickly to CA. I really liked the videos and reviews on the site which gave me ideas and a sense of knowing I was installing everything correctly. I, like most of us, do not have access to a lift, but I used the ramps I have for oil changes on our cars. I just backed up on them and and chocked the front wheels. I also do not have lifting help and I am 71 so I set the hitch on a floor jack and my wife raised it up as I guided it in behind the bumper cover. I read a review that said he was able to install without dropping the muffler, and I did the same. Thanks for that tip, it was easy. Our Camry had weld nuts on both sides, maybe because it is one of the early 2011 models, which made it very easy. Let me say that I can see the muffler drop if you are using power tools. But if you are using good old had tools it really is not necessary. Another comment about the reviews. One review expressed concern over ware on the spare from the added bolts and the fact of permanently removing a factory bracket. This must have been a brother of mine as I had the same thoughts when I viewed the installation video before ordering. If you have a "donut" spare, like most, with it in the well look through the center hub with a flash light, the added bolts and plates are inside the rim area and never contact the actual tire. The second concern of the bracket removal, after looking at what it was bolted to, and where the added hitch, which is much stronger, is secured, I have no concerns the the bracket is now needed. After clearing the trunk, getting the tools together, and backing on the ramps. From start to final torque down of the bolts it was right at an hour. Note: My wife was very pleased with the hidden appearance of this hitch on "her" car. Always a success when the wife is happy. I recommend this model hitch and ETrailer and will refer friends.

Excellent product. Came with good instructions for install, does require a jack, wheel chocks, possibly jack stands, wrenches and ratchet and sockets, and a drill for bracketing thru trunk basin. Does take some time and patience especially dropping the muffler to get up and under it. The hitch itself is great. I use it for my bicycle rack. Once installed it is hidden other than the receiver. Very satisfied and glad I was able to install myself with the good instructions.

I am interested in purchasing the Drawtite hitch for my 2007 Camry. I have a 2 bike rack mount so I will be using a 1 14 to 2 adapter but I also wanted to raise the rack. Will the MaxxTow Hitch Accessories - MT70355 work with this hitch on a Toyota Camry clear the bumper? Thanks, Dave

Etrailer Expert

Patrick B.

10/29/2013

The hitches available for your Camry are Class II, so they will be compatible with the Maxxtow MT70355 [no longer available]. Whether or not it will clear your bumper is another matter. With raised or stepped adapters like the MT70355, they can end up making contact with the bumper cover before the pin holes line up in the hitch. A straight expander, like # HTAD or # C45785 should not interfere with the bumper cover, particularly with vehicles like the Camry where the hitch tucks up tight to the underbody. Remember too, that these adapters will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch, by 50 percent, so make sur to check your weights.

The hitch was an easy install for one person with a floor jack, if you want more elbow room. You don't need to drop the exhaust on a Toyota Camry LE to complete the install.

Works great

by:

The hitch appears to be a good quality but it doesn’t allow for the rear facia clips to be reinstalled afterwards as the instructions suggest you should do. I was also disappointed that the wiring harness requires that a wire be run all the way to the battery. In the past I’ve purchased harnesses that simply plugs into the vehicle lighting harness and are grounded but don’t require the long single wire to the battery.

by:
2009 Toyota Camry

We recieved the package in less than a weeks time. Along with the great tutorials I was able to install the trailer hitch in 30 minutes. I have yet to tow anything, but the product seems of high quality. I will be coming back to etrailer.com for all my towing needs.

by:
2008 Toyota Camry

Mine arrived literally hanging out of the box and not one portion of the box was intact. These items need to be boxed with some level of quality and customer service in mind, it’s not only the fault of UPS.
The heavy items are not end wrapped and are packaged loosely and naturally, they will exit the CARDBOARD box while in transit.
Common sense !!
And from what I see on line, it is a common practice of shipping incompetence from etrailer.
Is this how you would like your expensive items to be delivered ? Scratch and dent sale and already looking used.
Save the money and just drop them from the plane next time.
I’m hopeful they are not damaged and are straight.
Quality is key !

2010 Toyota Camry

So about a year ago I bought a reciever hitch, receiver cover, euro style ball and wiring for my 2010 Camry to tow a 4x8 foldable trailer for powersports......Installation was straight forward and dedicated an afternoon for install.....Directions for the products was easy to follow for both products.... so far the wiring is just as I installed it and the hitch is holding up great, you can barely notice that I have a hitch back there. I think it blends in nicely....I anticipate many years of worry free towing....
Customer service is top notch also ????

Fits car as described and appropriate fit for the bike rack I purchased it for. Great quality for price. No complaints.

Ive had this on my Camry for a year now. The hitch is still in great shape. Thought the hitch is rated for a tongue weight of 300 lbs, which I havent exceeds just hauling a few mountain bikes, the stress from one of the suppert bars that attached underneath the trunk has cracked the metal casing of the trunk on my Camry. Im unsure if others have had this problem, but something to be aware if your application is similar to mine.

2011 Toyota Camry

the box arrived in pretty bad shape. however the receiver was undamaged and was installed at work in the parking lot during my lunch hour, I needed a 2nd pair of hands for less than 5 minutes. very happy with every aspect off this receiver, my only suggestion would be to offer it with a 2'' receiver option as there are more accessories available in that configuration and you wouldn't have to deal with any adapters

2011 Toyota Camry

Easy enough to install, we've towed close to the maximum weight multiple times with a 2011 Toyota Camry and had no issues.

by:
2011 Toyota Camry

Product arrived scratched and scuffed up. Box had several holes in it and and was tore up, even the hitch was protruding out. I have yet to check fitment, but if it lines up I'll definitely have to spray a coat of primer/paint on it to prevent rusting at least where the scratches are. I'm assuming this happened during shipping and I didn't just receive an old returned product.
The hitch itself had this unusual thick coating of dust on it like it had been sitting for a long time. The welds on it are sloppy and uneven, I really hope they hold up, granted it's only a 300lb tongue rating.
On the flip side, the hardware seems to all be there, unlike some other reviews that stated it was missing. First time customer for etrailer, so I guess I was expecting much more quality.

The hitch was for a 2007 Toyota Camry. The installation was easy after watching the videos on how to install it. It requires drilling a couple of holes in the tire compartment but following the instructions carefully and sealed everything well and everything is just fine. I recommend this product for anyone because the installation is really easy.

Simple and easy installation. The video on the website was helpful. However I kept the muffler installed and was able to install around it. I would say total time was 45 minutes to do the install from start to finish. So very easy.

Have owned and used this hitch for over a year now. Still VERY happy with my ion. Last April we pulled a small trailer from Ohio to Arizona and back with my 2010 Toyota Camry. No problems whatsoever. No bumping or thumping from loose hardware or faulty construction. I am VERY confident that this is the best product for the money.

This is a review for the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receive-Class II-1-1/4". I installed it on a 2010 Toyota Camry to attach a Swagman 4-bike rack. The hitch was installed by a local shop. Works wonderfully! It did stick out just 1/2" more than what I would have liked. I do have to be careful when going up or down a steep driveway, the hitch rubs against the road. This could be an installation issue or a hitch design issue. It just means I cannot use the Camry on a few steep inclines. But otherwise, I still rate it 5 star for the wonderful job it does. I have not seen it wobble even with the Swagman loaded with three bikes...yet to load the four bikes at a time.

2011 Toyota Camry

Purchased this hitch for a 2011 Camry SE. Outstanding support from the eTrailer folks to price match, then provide missing bolts. No fuss and professional folks !!!!

The hitch was harder to install than planned. It can be done by one person. Lifting it was not the hard part. There weren't weld nuts on the passenger side, so you have to deal with that, but luckily, there are nuts and washers in the bag of hardware. The problem is that on the far right passenger side, it is very difficult to get the nut and washer in there without lowering that side of the bumper. I used black silicone to hold the nut to the washer, then was able to get the bolt to catch the nut/washer (w/o loosening the bumper). Same black silicone was used under the tabs in the trunk to seal it from exhaust fumes. All torqued-up really well and the rest of the install went easy. You don't have to lower either exhaust pipe, but you do have to remove one of the brackets.

In order to put the black plastic skid plate back on, you have some significant measuring and cutting. In the end it will look home made when viewed from the bottom; like a pack of rats chewed through portions -- you have to precision cut around those long metal extensions and the bolts that go through them. Much work. little payoff. I put a can if undercoat on the parts that were previously covered by the skid plate and the hitch extensions. looks good and protected from road grime and winter salt.

The hitch is hardly noticeable from the rear. It blends into the lower black portion of the rear spoiler. If you buy a Toyota hitch cap, it looks stock.

Good Luck and enjoy !!!!

  • Can Thule Hitching Post Pro Fit on 2011 Toyota Camry
Yes, the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR is compatible with your 2011 Toyota Camry. I recommend using the Draw-Tite # 36416 because it features a hidden crosstube for a cleaner look (see attached). Since this is a Class II trailer hitch you can actually utilize the 4 bike positions of the bike rack. I have attached an installation video of the trailer hitch on an '11 Camry as well as a video of this bike rack on an '11 Camry for you to reference. You may also be interested in the Softride...

It is very important to note that when using this kind of adapter, the weight capacity of your hitch will be reduced by 50%. This is shown in the linked installation video at the :25-second mark. Selecting the correct ball mount to keep your hitched trailer level (for the best handling) is easy; you can refer to the linked article that explains how to measure your coupler height to determine the amount of drop or rise you need. If the hitch...

  • Which Ball Mount to Use with Draw Tite Hitch for 2008 Toyota Camry
With Class I hitches like what you have on your 2008 Toyota Camry you have to use the recommended ball mount otherwise the warranty of the hitch is voided. For the Draw Tite hitch part # 36416 that you have you would need to use the part # 36071 which you referenced which has a 2-5/8 inch rise.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2007 Toyota Camry LE
The hitch I recommend is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 36416. It is a good fit for your car with a 1-1/4-inch receiver, a weight capacity of 3500 lbs and a tongue weight of 300 lbs. It comes with a complete hardware kit and requires no welding during installation. You will want to check the towing and tongue weight capacity of your vehicle prior to using any trailer hitch. If the weight capacities between the vehicle and hitch are different, always use the lower of the two. I have provided...

  • Accesories Needed to put a Hitch Bike Rack on a 2008 Toyota Camry SE with Draw Tite # 36416 Hitch
There might be some products you may be interested in purchasing, but once you have this Draw-Tite Hitch Receiver, part # 36416 installed onto your 2008 Toyota Camry you would not need anything else to put a bike on the 1-1/4 inch receiver of the # 36416. I included the installation instructions and a video of the install being done on a similar Toyota Camry below. You will not need lights because the lights from your Camry should still be visible, and the bike rack attaches to the hitch...

  • Trailer Hitch Fit Options for 2007 or 2011 Toyota Camry XLE w/ Dual Exhuast
I checked with my contacts at Hidden Hitch, Draw-Tite and Curt, regarding the fit of the Curt # C12343, the Hidden Hitch # 90152 (no longer available) and Draw-Tite # 36416 Class II trailer hitches on your 2011 Camry. There would be absolutely no fit issue or interference with the dual exhaust. These hitches are compatible the 2007-2011 Camrys, so they'll work with either vehicle you referenced. I'd recommend the Draw-Tite model, unless you were planning on towing with the hitch, in which...

  • How to Carry an Electric Bike Rack for 2009 Toyota Camry
Yes, you can haul an electric bike and a regular bike on your 2009 Toyota Camry. To do this, I recommend using a hitch bike rack because that will support the weight of both bikes like the RockyMounts MonoRail Solo 2 Bike Rack, # RKY10007-05. It has a really good capacity at 60 lbs per bike and it comes with locks for the bikes and to secure your rack to your Camry. I suggest removing your battery when transporting your bike, it saves you weight and the stress of the road vibrations on...
