Because the attachment points were so rusted out, and my exhaust pipe also, I had the hitch installed by a friend of mine who is a mechanic. It went well, and the wiring was easy as could be. Very, very happy!
Because our CR-V is an older model, the threads were a bit rusty. I sent a request to eTrailer and they answered promptly which tap to use to chase the threads. The hitch is a heavy awkwardly shaped item. The shipping box didn't hold up too well. One of the hitch parts was protruding from the box, but not damaged. I would purchase from them again.
Nice looking and fitting hitch for my 2011 Honda CRV. The price was the best that I could find. Shipping was quick too with no damage.

My hitch is performing and looking great. I have used it to haul things and now use it for hauling my 2 e-bikes.
Thought about paying to have this installed, but instead decided to invest in a torque wrench with money saved from doing it myself. The video estimated 60 minutes for a novice, and the instructions that came with the hitch said 90, so naturally, I figured it would take me 3 hours or so, which was pretty close (a little less, I think, but this doesn't include the time I spent getting the weld nuts in shape). The video was extremely helpful. My biggest problems were getting all the holes in the hitch to match up with the weld nuts in the bottom of my C-RV at the same time (had two sons helping me get it into place); getting a bolt or two started with the hitch in position; and using the torque wrench on one of the bolts above the muffler (the once closest to the front of the car) because of having next to no room to operate the wrench in (I could only turn the wrench a tiny bit at a time before running out of room for the wrench handle). Fortunately, I had cleaned out all the weld nuts (also a painstaking process; I almost gave up) before I even ordered the hitch, or who knows how long I would have been there. Without the videos, I may have never gotten this done by myself (may not have even attempted it), so I saved money and now have a torque wrench to boot!

It is still holding up strong. I use it for a bike rack and just made my second round trip between Maryland and Rhode Island with a bike with no problems. Still 5 stars.
Installed in about 40 minutes, as advertised. No jacks, no extra set of hands. The install video was spot on. Not much of a tool guy, so my standard socket set didn't include the required 17mm and 11/16 sockets. Quick trip to Lowe's.
The only "con" - the hole for the hitch receiver pin is too close to the horizontal tube. My Yakima bike rack included an anti-rattle receiver bolt lock that hits the tube and prevented me from threading the bolt. Three options - order hitch #87440 instead. Use a standard pin. Or order a low profile threaded replacement bolt #Y8890200. I went with the latter. Works perfectly.
I carry my Thule swing away storage box on the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver currently. The fit and finish is perfect. Looks great on my 2009 Honda SUV
Hitch arrived in good condition sooner than I expected. The installation video and instructions were very clear. I suggest after cleaning the nuts welded to the underside of the vehicle to run the bolt through them prior to installing the hitch. Be careful to not cross thread the bolt, I did and had to drill out and re-tap the nut for a larger size bolt. I was able to install by myself with car on the driveway. I strapped the hitch to a floor jack which made it easy to handle and get in position single handed. Very pleased with the hitch.
I originally wanted to get the Max-Tite hitch, but they were sold out at the time. This hitch works fine for my needs (bike rack). The hitch itself was pretty easy to install. The videos posted here made my DIY life easy. 80% of my project was dealing with the corrosion and rust of the weld nuts. I’d recommend anyone trying to DIY this to check your corrosion and bust it with PB Blaster, a battery terminal wire brush, and/or a 10mm thread tap (which is what I needed to do). The extra rebate offer was icing on the cake for this hitch and the customer service at etrailer was excellent. Will shop here again if I need accessories.

We 'rented' a torque wrench from AUTOZONE for a $100.00 deposit which was returned when we handed the wrench back.
I happened to have a brush as described to clean the screw holes with, stored under my kitchen sink. Never used it because it was a bit harsh for kitchen use. I picked it up at a tool store years ago because I love tools! Came in handy today!
I was the assistant to my husband's muscle power. First time ever, I crawled under a car to hold the hitch in place while hubby put the hardware in place.
From start to finish, 45 minutes!
We saved ourselves 600-800 dollars to buy it through the car dealership and have them install it. So grateful we found etrailer.com.
We also bought a light harness and that took an hour to install, it would have gone faster if we hadn't hastily screwed in the screw forgetting to put the ground wire in between the screw and car wall... lol
The hitch was installed without a hitch, no pun intended lol!
Well...I cannot say enough good things about the etrailer crew. The customer service is second to none. Fast shipping and the order follow up, is a lesson other companies should be paying attention to. The installation videos cant be beat. That being said, I am a gear head and a metal working guy for my day job and I must say...this install kicked my butt. I would highly suggest picking up a M10-1.25 metric tap and chase the mounting holes. Only need to do 4...make sure you take your time to not cross-thread. I was fortunate enough to salvage them. (Illinois is not nice to metal). This took me 6-hrs and a lot of four letter words. The hitch is well made, but seemed to be a bit torqued and required some "muscle" to get it into place. Pay attention as well to the washers correct direction. Once in place looks great and holds our new bike rack (etrailer) great. Not to scare you off, but just be prepared.
Watched the installation video. Drove the rear of the CRV up onto ramps for better access. Bought the bottle brush, part no. 814092, to clean the CRV's frame threads. Used the brush and penetrating spray oil to clean the frame threads. Check-fit the hitch, part no. 13555, frame bolts and all was good. Lubed the muffler hangers and they popped off easily. With a helper, lifted hitch into position and ran in all bolts. Torqued bolts to spec. Less than 30 min of work, start to finish. Hitch, fasteners, wire harness ,and brush all in one box. I plan to install the wire harness, part no. 118427, on a cooler day. As usual, etrailer gets it right every time. This is my third hitch purchase from etrailer. Note: The shipping box was a bit battered and parts of the hitch had broken through the cardboard. Etrailer should add more cardboard around the hitch for better protection as some paint was scuffed off of the hitch.
Overall, a very good product. Shipping was quick and it arrived in good shape. When installing, I had to loosely insert the two bolts in the larger
end, then apply significant lateral force to line up the two at the other
end. The U-bolt holes were just a bit off, so the nuts do not
tighten down flat against the plate. I'll check them occasionally to make
sure they stay secure.

I spoke with my contact in the Tech Services department at Curt, who tells me that they see this occasionally on that generation CR-V. The trick is to loosen the side bolts to provide yourself a little wiggle room. They you should be able to properly torque the u-bolt. Then, tighten the side bolts.
I ordered my Curt Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness on Sunday Night and received it on Thursday. ETrailer ugraded my standard delivery at no charge. The hitch and harness arrived fully intact. Installation took about 50 mins. Simple instructions were available via a video on Etrailer webstite. It looks great and saved me over a $1000.00 of what the dealer wanted to install. Excellent product, took me an hour to install by myself, would have been nice to have an extra hand which is recommended. Still wasn't bad, the longest part of the install was cleaning the existing holes out on the CRV, which was very understandable seeing a bolt had never been there and it is 8 years old. Excellent price, shipped very fast right to the house. I would recommend your hitches to anyone and if I ever need another one I will be in touch.
Great trailer hitch, easy to install, great price, fast shipping. Bought it mainly to haul our sons dirt bike, but many other uses as well. The hitch's easily accessible tie downs make it easier to ratchet down our canoe on the roof rack too.
One year in and no issues whatsoever. We're hauled bikes and pulled storage racks. The step-by-step install video specific to my vehicle is fantastic. Wish every retailer provided such great support.
The hitch and all the hardware are great, extremely high quality and finished well. Welds look excellent, and in the end, it did bolt up.
However. I am disappointed with Curt for having obviously never test fit this hitch onto a CR-V, like it is compatible with. The second step of the installation requires you to lift the hitch into place and attach it to the SUV via a U-bolt in the middle of the hitch. This lets it hang in place while you attach it to the frame rails. Included with this U-bolt are two flanged nuts that are supposed to secure it in place. The flanges on these nuts are too wide and they overlap when both are installed, so you can't actually use both. Luckily I had another nut on hand with the same threading that I was able to use for the second hole, but even with the hitch completely fitted to the car, there is no way for both of these flanged nuts to be installed. This is a dumb mistake and not many people will have extra hardware on hand to work around it.
Besides that, the packaging could use some serious work. I understand that this is a heavy piece of metal, and it will always cause some wear and tear to the box. Not only that, but FedEx is also responsible for rough handling, I'm sure. With all that taken into consideration, the box it shipped in could have been padded, packed with peanuts, or even just had the hitch tethered in the box more securely, because upon its arrival, both flanges that bolt to the frame rails had punctured the box and were exposed.
Well built and easy to install lined up with no problems! I did need to use a tap with some PB blaster to remove the rust in the bolt holes but I expected that. I would recommend this hitch to anyone! Thank you for a quality product!!

Great looking trailer hitch! If you plan to install this yourself, the item is heavy and it would be best to get a second hand. I haven't used it to haul anything yet, but it looks sturdy. I also bought a T-One harness and followed Etrailer's installation video. Overall I am very satisfy with Etrailer's service and the product!
This hitch has been used on a regular basis. A year later and it works just like the day I installed it and the paint still looks new. Couldn't be happier with this hitch! :)

Great hitch that fits well. Took some work to clean out the mounting location in the car, but that has nothing to do with the hitch itself.

Installation instructions were simple and straightforward. Installation went as well as could be expected. The hitch still looks new 1 year later.
The Curt hitch installed without any problems. The product is well made and appear very rugged. The video tutorial on the website was also very helpful. My only suggestion for improvement would to have used nuts that connect the U-bolt to the hitch use the same wrench size as the 4 bolts attaching the hitch to the car frame. Then the whole installation could have been made with just one tool instead of having to switch between a metric socket to an SAE socket
Great hitch, had to pry a bit to line up bolts. Towed over 600 mi. no problems. Ordering on line was hard because there is to much stuff. I suggest calling to talk to a real person, employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. Especially Lori B.
