Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

I use this hitch pull trailers when needed and for my bike rack. I had it professionally installed by trailer hitch installer to ensure everything was torqued properly. They did an excellent job and the hitch works great. I also like the fact, that the majority of the hitch is behind the bumper and can't be seen.
Many choice and great prices. The hitch I bought fit perfectly and went on easily (easy learning curve for a first timer!). Same with the wiring harness. Used it the next day for 1000 mi trip.
Overall, great experience.

can anyone comment on the hitch being so low, appears to reduce ground clearence by inches? alsoit appears very recessed under the car? I am looking to use bike carriers, and the one o wn now, may not have enough neck on it to reach in and under the rear febder skrting as shown. Any insight on this fromt the users? Thanks
The hitch installed as expected and it looks good. It really does apper to be hidden. The wiring harness also works great. It would be helpful if there were more detailed directions and pictures for the wiring harness. I am pleased with the product I purchased from etrailer.com

Installation instructions and YouTube video made installation of the hitch fairly straightforward and as easy as it could be on my 2012 Volvo XC60. My only complaint is that the muffler now touches the hitch and will vibrate during acceleration. Otherwise, a great product and MUCH cheaper than buying from or having the dealer install the same hitch. Thanks, eTrailer!
The hardware itself is solid, and when installed on an XC60 with the R-Design body package, snugs neatly up under the bumper cover, and doesn't require any cutting or modification. Things fall down when it comes to the installation instructions. Three of the bolts go in as the instructions suggest. The front-most passenger side bolt requires clearancing of the hole on the backing plate, because there is insufficient vertical room for the carriage bolt to be pulled through the backing plate and hole in the frame rail. That's minor compared to the two front bolts. The instructions for those are literally impossible. They make the assumption that the ends of the frame rail are open. The only way THAT can happen is if you remove the bumper cap, impact absorber, and rear crash structure. I had to drill access holes in the frame rail to be able to get the bolts and backing plates up in there. Then I needed two long extensions and a universal to get a socket on the nut to tighten everything down. Took me about three hours, start to finish, instead of the 45 minutes predicted.
The whole transaction with etrailer.com was flawless from the confirmation of my purchase to the tracking of the package, they kept me well informed, as far a the packaging is concerned the box held up for the most part for the exception of one corner of the hitch that I'm assuming due to weight or mishandling by the carrier made the installation a bit hard ssince I had to leverage with the aid of a crawl bar and a jack to be able to match the holes on the frame, other than that the instalation was simple fish the wire through the frame's holes and attach the hitch. It looks good and It is easy to mount the bike rack.
We installed this hitch on our 2010 Volvo XC60. Took me and Hubby working together to get it done. It was not too hard - took maybe 1 hr. Does the job of accepting our bike rack perfectly and is very secure.
The issue we have had is that the muffler knocks against the hitch. It doesn't do it when the car has more than 3 people in it. It does it when I'm driving by myself or with a passenger. It's really annoying!!! I couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from, and I thought there was something wrong with my car. I took it to the Volvo shop and felt like a moron when they pointed out that it was the hitch we had installed ourselves. So I have just tolerated it for the last year. I miss my quiet ride, but I guess the suffering is worth the joy of going on bike rides with my family.
If anyone has installed this on a 2010 Volvo XC60 and has NOT had this problem, or had this problem and fixed it, I would love to know what you did differently.

The exhaust system at the rear of the car is attached to the vehicle using rubber isolators and easily bendable exhaust hangers. Because of this, the actual position of the exhaust system can vary a bit from vehicle to vehicle. When the hitch is installed, its position will not vary from vehicle to vehicle. The large tolerances in the exhaust system is what can allow the rattle to occur. In other words, its not the fault of the hitch or its design. Youll just need to create a bit more space between the hitch and the exhaust. The good news is that this is a very common occurrence that is easily remedied by slightly bending the exhaust hanger. Ive linked you to a help article that addresses how to easily fix the rattle.
It fits as promised. Only been attached for a couple days now. I’m using it only for a bike rack. Was able to get all the bolts in and the torque wrench on all of them.
Install did take me about 2.5 to 3 hours because the bolts kept getting stuck or we couldn’t get them to come through the frame. I read a review that said to tip the plate on its side for the 2” bolt that’s at the top and that ended up working out for us. The bolts that are installed horizontally were fairly nerve wracking as well. We fed the washer on over the wire and held tension on the bolt while we just pulled the wire off destroying it. Not saying it’s the best idea but that’s how we played the game.
I would just say to use the install video and some of the reviews that have better technical help. But the receiver fits and it will go into your car and you can get all the bolts in.

It works terrific. I use it for a bike rack and it has done the job well. Installation was a little more tricky than the video looked like but we eventually got it on. Took us about 3 hours, but we probably did something that caused it to take so long.
I received the trailer hitch on the date promised. The box was beaten up pretty badly and paint was chipped off of the two arms going above the hitch on our Volvo XC60. The instructions were difficult to follow, I would recommend you send the link from UTube and leave it at that. The installation was done in my garage, I used wheel ramps to raise the rear end of the car and had plenty of room to work. One of the wire threaders bent during the first bolt install, the other worked fine and I still have it. I installed the wiring harness the next morning with no challenges. Thank you for the trailer hitch, I am looking forward to many years of use.

Thanks for the follow up. The hitch manufacturers recommend using a high quality spray paint to touch up any minor paint chips and light scratches.
It was a pleasure to work with a product that is well engineered, well fabricated and painted, fits well, and has quite good installation instructions when you combine the printed sheet and the on-line video. I plan to use it as a rear anchor point to tie down my car when trailering it.

It is fine it serves its purpose well and I have had several compliments on it, so of course have passed on your address as the source.
Not sure if it’s the hitch or my exhaust system (factory original) but occasionally there is noise from contact with the muffler. I had the Volvo dealership check my installation and the tech said it was proper and tight. The service mgr suggested I take it to a muffler shop and have them tweak it. If the hitch had a little more length to avoid this interference - that would be an improvement. Otherwise the system performs very well as expected.

Sometimes when a hitch is installed you can experience the muffler rattling against the hitch. We do offer an FAQ that provides ideas on how to correct it.

Ordering was easy. Delivery was pretty fast and free. Fit well. Didn't have to do any bending. Not easy to do by yourself but it's possible. Normal amount of hand contortions. Instructions and video were spot on. Wiring turned out to be easier than I thought it would be. 2015 XC60 has a fuse box right by the left taillight. Mine had plenty of capacity and plenty of spare locations to use.

One year later and still great!!
Hitch looks good. On thing to change - in step number 8 it says to angle the wire back through the bumper. Very hard to reach the end of the bumper. It was much easier to angle it forward through the access hole.
Thanks!

Sold that car. Bought a 2020 Toyota Sienna and put one of your hitches on that. Good product and directions. Easy installation.
This product simply does not fit. After placing the bolts and getting the hitch positioned I discovered that the holes in the hitch do not line up with the holes in the frame of the car. They are not even close. With the screw in position on one side, the other side is off by at least an inch. Now I have no hitch and I am stuck with bolts dangling out of the frame with no good way to remove them. Very frustrating experience and terrible product. DO NOT BUY!!

When a trailer hitch is manufactured, softer steel is used in the side plates as opposed to the harder steel used in the crossbar and receiver tube. This allows the hitch to flex along with the vehicle to a certain degree. Unfortunately, this flexibility can also allow the hitch to get slightly bent out of position during shipping and handling. Fortunately, it is very easy to fix this if you know a few tricks as shown in the article Ill link for you.

I bought this hitch so that I could add a hitch mounted bike rack. I have used several drawtite products over the years and have always been satisfied with their price and quality. It is tucked up nicely on the vehicle and sturdy enough that I could pull a trailer as well if desired.
I found the installation pretty easy and all the holes lined up just fine. The threading wires used to get the plates and bolts through the frame worked quite well and was able to get all 6 in position using just one of the wires (although it was nice to have the extra one just in case). I read several comments that people said the back bolt is too long and that they destroyed the wires and 2 weren't enough. The trick for the 4 bolts that come through the bottom of the frame is to get the plates in position first and then pull the bolt through. For the back bolt, as it gets to the plate you just have to tilt the plate on its side and as you pull the bolt through it'll drop down the hole. Then I took a short length of wire and wrapped around each bolt under the frame to prevent it from being knocked back up into the frame while positioning the hitch. The wire is removed once the nut is started but before the hitch is pulled up tightly.
The two bolts that come through the side holes were a little trickier. Once the other 4 bolts are tightened and the hitch is snugged up, thread the guide wire through. Slide on the plate and then thread the bolt. Gently work the plate through the small opening in the frame before pulling the bolt through. Then gently pull the wire, jiggling and shaking it a bit as you go and it'll pop through. Getting the nut and washer on the bolt without knocking it back into the frame was the biggest challenge in the whole job for me due to my large hands (not much room to work). Using a long flat bladed screwdriver (or something similar) I could apply pressure to the bolt holding it in place while removing the wire and adding the washer and nut. The screwdriver allowed me to hold the bolt in place while squeezing one hand up there to add the nut and washer.
THE EARS ON THE BACK SIDE WERE BOTH BENT, IM SURE FROM SHIPPING.LIKED THE HITCH AND FAST SERVICE. THE INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS WERE OFF IT SHOWS A OPENING ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE CAR FRAME TO FEED IN THE CARAGE BOLTS AND SPACERS IN(DID NOT HAVE THEM) WAS NOT A FAN OF THAT INSTALL TOOK A LOT MORE TI,E BUT IN END CAME OUT GOOD.
Just installed a Draw Tite hitch on my 2011 Volvo XC60 R Design: everything was great. The hitch arrived promptly, the video for my hitch and my year and model car was really helpful and the hardware all fit great. Positioning the bolts that came with the hitch was not a problem using the fish wire. My only comments after the install: (i) getting the hitch in place over the muffler is not easy and requires pushing against the plastic bits of the car... nothing broke, and none of the R Design trim needed to be cut, but it is not obvious that it will fit, (ii) tightening the top bolts, the horizontal ones, is not easy and for me required three wrenches and a lot of patience, (iii) the top arms of the hitch were about 3 or 4 mm wider than the frame, likely by design, and once the bolts were tightened the arms were snug on both sides and (iv) re-positioning the hangers for the muffler after the hitch is in place can be done without taking the hanger assembly apart, by twisting the rubber mount.
I installed the hitch on my XC60 and the video showing the installation was helpful. There was a snag in the installation where on the passenger side the mounting point that uses the block spacer and 2" long 7/16" carriage bolt would not go through the mounting hole using the fish wire. All of the other bolts worked fine with the fish wire. I noticed that the bolt that did not go through seemed to not be able to stand up enough inside the frame to allow it to feed through meaning the bolt was too long I ended up having to buy another fish wire since the ones I had got trashed trying to get this stubborn bolt installed and bought a 1 3/4" long 7/16" grade 5 carriage bolt. This shorter bolt went in no problem and was able to be fished in easily. No problem with putting on the washer and nut with this shorter bolt. That's why the rating is not excellent since in had to figure out a way on my own spending extra money on parts to make the install work out.
Once again great service, I received my Draw-Tite hitch receiver in expected time. The installation video was extremely helpful and very well done, the step by step procedure was easy to follow. The hitch is well made and the installation kit provided a very valuable fish wire for installing the bolts. The only minor hitch was that the top holes on my model Volvo had a heavy black tape over them that I didn't see until I had the hitch in place was able to remove it with a long thin screw driver.
The Volvo hitch is rock solid and performed very well over the last year. The fit and install instructions were as good as it gets and were easy to follow. Crawling around on the ground is a little tough at my age, so the more info the better to expedite the install (no lift in my inventory). The electrical components were a breeze as well, which I usually dread.
I can't believe etrailer followed up a year later to make sure I was satisfied. That is unheard of these days. Most companies get the sale and run.
Great company!

Installed on a 2017 XC60 along with the trailer lights wire harness... Both fit perfectly, and the installation videos are extremely accurate and helpful. If you plan to install both, my first recommendation is to run the power wire after disconnecting the exhaust hangers from the frame and before installing the hitch. This will give you easy access to the space where the power wire will run in the area behind the rear axle. My second recommendation involves running the power wire near the middle section of the vehicle. In newer models there will be a plastic cover not shown in the video and the heat shield is actually sheet metal in this area. If you disconnect one nut holding the plastic cover (front driver side corner of cover), you can fit your hand in the space and feed the power cable behind the sheet metal heat shield. This also gives you a nice channel to feed the power wire to where the hard lines begin.
Well engineered and fit perfectly. The YouTube video was well made and very helpful. The Volvo dealership wanted over a thousand dollars for a trailer hitch and I don't believe that included installation. I did mine with the wiring harness for under two hundred. I did not use a lift but I raised the rear of the car about 10 inches with jackstands. Very happy with it.
Nice hitch use for our bike rack. easy installation just follow the video. little over a hour with no hitches (pun intended).
I'm fairly handy and this job took about 3 hours. Online video was really helpful, but I ran into several snags along the way that weren't shown in the video. After getting the hitch into place and fastening one side I discovered hitch was slightly bent and wouldn't line up with holes in vehicle frame. After calling ... service they said it's fairly common and that I needed to remove it and try to bend it back into shape. It's wasn't an easy task getting into place, so I was annoyed to have to start all over. After straightening the hitch and getting first two bolts fastened the next four were really difficult to get into the proper position with the fish line. I struggled for an hour trying to get these in. I eventually got them all in but not without cutting up my hands and fingers trying to maneuver them around in the small holes and crevices I used to guide the bolts into proper position. All in all in saved my $400 from the Volvo dealer and the hitch looks really nice on my 2013 XC60 R Design.
