Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2013 Volvo XC60 for Carrying 2 Bikes
Question:
Hi, I have a 2013 Volvo XC60 and am looking for a bike rack to hold 2 bikes. Is it better to get a hitch installed and buy a rack that inserts into the hitch? Or buy one that fits onto the hatch? Thanks!

The benefits of a trunk mount are lower cost, no additional mount is needed, and they can store easier since they take up less space than many trailer hitch mount racks.
Trunk mount bike racks are limited to 2 or 3 bike models, they carry the bikes closer to the vehicle than a hitch mount, and the rack must make constant contact with the vehicle. It is possible for the bike rack to scratch the vehicle paint if the rack and vehicle are dirty during installation.
A hitch mounted rack is going to be more stable, carry the bikes further away from the vehicle, and will not make contact with the vehicle. Some are easier to load bikes onto than others. Platform bike racks generally make loading easier but the racks are heavier and not as easy to store compared to traditional hanging racks and trunk mount racks.
A hitch mount rack will cost more overall due to the cost of the hitch and the bike rack. Some hitch mount racks can be heavy and/or difficult to store due to the size.
For a hitch for your 2013 Volve XC60 the Draw Tite part # 75671 would be your best choice.
Then my favorite platform 2 bike rack to recommend is the Saris SuperClamp EX part # SA4025F because it's lightweight at only 35 lbs and only touches the bikes at the tires.
