Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Great product and easy install with someone assisting. I really like that it is practically hidden and only the hitch receiver opening is visible which is slightly recessed from the bumper. Pictures show hitch with bike rack installed in the upright position with perfect clearance from tailgate.

by:

Install was easy and it works great for my bike rack

by:

Fairly easy to install even by myself. The fit was great. The instructions were easy to follow. Very satisfied.

2012 GMC Canyon

Hitch fit perfectly on 06 GMC Canyon. Shipment came quickly which was nice, ahead of schedule.

UPS was UPS so the box was pretty messed up and the hitch was exposed in multiple areas. Not a big deal because it is a hitch after all, but there are some paint chips/cracks that will now have to be repaired to prevent rust. Etrailer offered to send me a can of the recommended paint from the manufacture or credit me $10 to purchase my own, so that is a plus.

Install was pretty easy, I did it myself. I would recommend install with another person if you can but it is doable, took about 45 minutes. Braced one side with 2x6 blocks so I could get one bolt in on one side, then raised the other side and got another in. Once that was done and there was no danger of having to hold the weight of the hitch, it was pretty easy to get the other two main bolts in. Tape the metal blocks like the directions suggest! Also came with a great guide wire that threaded on the smaller bolts that had to be put in about 12 inches into the frame. I usually just make my own and tie it but this was excellent and made things rather easy.

The one snag I hit was the last main bolt, mainly because I was installing myself. I had to get the bolt in but push up on not only the hitch, but the bumper as well so the bolt could thread. That was a lot of weight to push up on with shoulder/leg while on a creeper.

Once I get the rust repair paint looks like I have some other rust to take care of as well. Thanks Etrailer, great product, great service.

Things always work as specified from each trailer. Great place to get good quality product.

The Draw Tite hitch is performing great!

by:
2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Install on my 05 Colorado was pretty straight forward. With no helpers, I used a floor jack to lift the hitch receiver into place. To balance the unit on the jack, I slipped a heavy hitch into the receiver which helped keep it from pitching forward as I raised it into place.

2012 Chevrolet Colorado

Trailer hitch fit great on truck. Directions that came with it worked well. Took about 45 minutes to install the hitch and wire harness by myself on my 2012 Chevy Colorado.

by:
2011 GMC Canyon

Looks great. Install was easy for both the harness & the installation of the hitch. Took about 30 minutes, no left or jack was needed. Got my neighbor to help .. installed while laying on our backs in the driveway.

2005 Chevrolet Colorado

I ordered on a Monday and it was delivered that Wednesday. Fast and easy. Took me about 2 hrs with me and some jack stands. Took the longest to get the last bumper bolt in its always that one that gives you a headache.

by:

Was a booger to install (but then I knew it would be)because I have done it before. After about 2hrs of fighting with it by myself I finally got it installed. Works perfectly as it should. Hooked up my trl with my UTV and took off down the road. All is good. Would by again (but hopefully I won't bend this one and need to).

by:

Do not use etrailers link for recommended harnesses when buying a hitch. Did not fit, and was for a vehicle if it already was equipped with a wire harness, why would you by a T wire harness if you already had a harness? The only recommendation that came up. Now they are trying to make money on the return. Use [online] instead, less hassle, faster and better.

The harness, part # 118384, is to be able to add a 4 flat along with with the 7 way on the 2004 Chevy Colorado to add the option to pull a trailer with a 4 flat harnesses versus just 7 way harnesses. When you wiring from the hitch page for the Colorado you will be asked if your truck has no wiring or a 7 way harness installed.

2004 GMC Canyon

Awesome product. If you are going to install yourself, please get another person to help. And look up the install video online. The included instruction do not really show how to install. Other than that, it was quite easy to install. Product looks like its made very well. Will try out and haul something in the next couple of days.

This hitch the easiest bolts right to the your frame start to finish about 30 minutes great product very pleased call George he'll hook you up

by:

Performance of the hitch meets what it was intended for. However the installation was much more than what it should have been. The hitch width wasn’t wide enough to simply just lift into place and bolt in. We had to use car jacks and force it into place a little at a time. It was extremely tight and took a couple hours to do. I’m not sure what caused it rather it was damaged in shipping or built to narrow.

It sounds like that the side brackets were knocked out of alignment which is why the bolt holes are not lining up. This can happen while in transit to our facility or to you. We do have a great FAQ that provides ways to move the brackets back into alignment so the hitch can be installed.

by:

Item installed easily after removing the bumper. Nothing interferes with the spare tire & it fits closely to the bumper so no real loss of ground clearance.
The packaging could be improved as the end pieces of the mount were not wrapped in cardboard & with the rough handling by UPS, the end pieces burst through the outer package. Luckily, nothing got bent & thus interfere with mounting the hitch.

This isn't on my primary vehicle, but it has been secure and held up well on the 2006 Isuzu I280. No problem towing or with hitch accessories. If you're on the fence, get it.

2008 Chevrolet Colorado

I have this hitch on my 2008 Colorado work truck. I have pulled my 12' utility trailer with it countless times over the last year, as well as my car dolly a few times. I also use a hitch carrier periodically for extra tools when the truck bed is full. I've installed four hitches now from etrailer, and they have all gone smoothly. I have been impressed with the customer service and the how-to videos. I always watch the video before I order, just to make sure I know what I'm getting in to. I couldn't be happier and I will continue to order from etrailer. It doesn't hurt that the pricing is consitiently better than the competition too! As far as this hitch specifically goes, the fit was good, hardware was nice, paint is holding up ok, and I've got no complaints. I did have to break out the big dog torque wrench to get the bolts to spec, something not every guy has in the garage.

Good product and satisfactory shipping. The packaging however was a different story.Very poorly wrapped and some of the paint was scuffed off in transit.

Even with our best intentions, sometimes the hitches arrived with damage to the powder coating. I recommend using a rust resistant touch up paint like Rustoleum. It will help protect the hitch and is nice to have on hand for the future.

Durable, well-built product at a reasonable price. Very nice hitch and wiring harness.

Great, like new after one years use. Recommend highly.

by:

Unintended use: This HD hitch spread the impact of my being rear-ended and minimized my truck's damage, IMO. The bumper right corner, which might have been pushed into the truck bed body, stopped at the HD hitch. Truck bed was fine, bumper had to be replaced; the HD hitch is scratched, but functions fine. The HD hitch's intended use...it tows fine, and the accessory wiring harness looks and functions like the factory one.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2012 Chevy Colordao
I recommend going with the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75607 hands down for your 2012 Chevy Colorado. I like this option over the Curt # 13252 because it has a hidden crosstube which not only looks better, but it also means you'll have better ground clearance. Attached is an installation video as well as a photo showing what it will look like once installed. Typically when a trailer hitch is installed on a pickup it will be used for towing. As long as you stay within the manufacturers tongue weight and gross trailer weight ratings, see bumper and owners manual, you will not have a problem towing with the Curt 2 inch Bumper Hitch, 5,000 lbs GTW, item # E-3S. A better solution for your towing needs would be the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch, item # 75607, which is designed specifically for your 2005 Colorado.
