Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

The hitch itself is awesome. Looks awesome. As if it were stock.
My only reason for not 5 stars is simply because the hitch came pretty scratched and gouged in a couple spots that are sure to start rusting sooner rather than later considering it’s under the car. All scratch’s aside it’s a perfect fit for my Hyundai Santa Fe.
The supplied hardware was included. I installed myself in less than an hour.

Yeah, those scratches and gouges will definitely rust if not covered. I recommend using a rust oleum type of paint to cover any spots of exposed metal. I am sorry this arrived in this condition, I will send it over to customer service so they can look into some sort of compensation. I have a link below for your reference.

A very solid and well made trailer hitch. I had some trouble installing it, although that was not the fault of the hitch. Rather, the existing bolt holes in my Santa Fe were rusted from 4+ years of driving. My initial attempts to get the bolts to go in were a failure - I couldn't even turn them 1 full turn by hand (and I didn't want to try to force them with a wrench).

I reached out to etrailer Support by email, and got a reply within an hour (on a Sunday, no less). They recommended getting small wire brushes that would fit up into the holes, and if that didn't work, using a metric tap to carefully clean up the threads. I had to order the brushes and tap online, so that delayed me by about a week. After spraying the holes with WD-40 and using the wire brushes, I was easily able to get three of the four bolts to thread in by hand. The fourth one required the tap to clean up the threads, then that bolt also went in easily.

The rest of the installation was pretty easy. My wife helped me hold the hitch in place while I threaded the bolts in. I also used some bricks to hold up one end of the hitch while I put the bolts in the other end. Another challenge is getting a socket on the bolts to tighten them up with a ratchet wrench. Even with a long extension, it's hard to get a socket on some of the bolts, due to interference from the hitch itself, but with some finessing, it can be done.

The final result looks great on my car and feels extremely solid. The picture is the final result, with my bike carrier installed on the hitch. Outstanding customer support from etrailer!!

I had to run out the threads with a 10 X 1.25 tap on all four holes. A little bit of a pain in the neck, but worth the effort. Thank God for the video, especially for the wiring harness. Printed instructions would have you take your Santa Fem apart.

Im very happy with my purchase of the trailer hitch after a year. I used it extensively last year with a bike rack for hauling one or two mountain bikes around. It is in great shape, no rust, and is very solid. I would certainly recommend it.Thanks for checking in.

2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

As advertised fit perfectly 2 hour install including cleaning out bolt holes. Able to install by myself

by:
2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Very heavy duty product and simple installation. Only difficulty was getting at the bolts. My 6" socket extension was just a little too long to get at the front ones because of the shape of the hitch. I would recommend using a 1.5"-2" bit along with a 3" wobble extension. Wish I had started the project with that little tool! Other than that it was easy. Even did it myself without jacking the car. Used my bottle jack to hold one side in place while I fastened the other. Total project time was about 45 minutes as a one man job.

by:

Hitch installedMy husband can't do this type of auto work any more, so I installed the hitch. We used a lift table to hold the hitch up while I did the installation. The one thing your video needs to state is to pull the mufflers over a little (about one inch). That gives just the amount of room for your hand to fit up there to start the bolts. The wrench was about the same. Frank pulled the pipes over just a bit and it went very well. I used large wire ties to hold the wire harness up, along with the sticky tape. We tested everything and all works perfect! Now to buy the trailer! We will recommend this, and your company to everyone! It took me just about one hour to do the job...I was a bit nervous because I wanted to do a good job, and make sure those bolts were tight.

Decided to put a trailer hitch on my wife Santa Fe for when we go on vacation so we can use the cargo rack. Saw this model was a perfect fit , easy install 4 bolts and you are done. Installed it in my driveway without having to lift the car up. Took me about 30 min (did it by my self). so it took a little longer if you had 2 people it could have been quicker.

by:

Great product and very happy with etrailer.com. Shipping of the hitch perfect. The installation video helped a lot, especially the cleaning of the vehicles mounting holes - very important if you want the installation to go smoothly. Total install time from prep cleaning to bolting was about 1hr simple. My neighbor liked it so much he is looking in to a hitch for his truck.!

2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Nice hitch. Install not so easy because of rusty threads like many others have noted. I wanted to use a tap to clean the threads as many have suggested but the muffler is in the way of the tap wrench and I'm not brave enough to tackle removing the muffler.

I ended up buying a same-size bolt from the hardware store, grinding 2 grooves along the length and used that to chase the threads and clean them out enough to accept the install bolts. Worked great and no danger of weakening the threads by removing metal like a tap would do.

Once that was done mounting the hitch was pretty straightforward. Another pair of hands and a jack to hold it in position helped a lot. A bit tricky to tighten the bolts to proper torque because it's such a tight space and the torque wrench only fit on 2 bolts. I'm sure someone with a lot of ratchet extensions of different lengths might have better luck but my options were limited.

My mechanic wanted $250 to drop the mufflers and try to clean the threads with no guarantee of success, so I was able to save that money and get the job done in a couple hours!

by:
2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

I haven't used this a whole lot yet, but overall it seems like a solid hitch. Installation was a little tricky solo (it's a bit heavy), but I was able to use the car's jack to carefully raise it in position on one side, and screw in the other side.

The installation videos were extremely helpful, and really help give a lot of confidence during the install.

I received the trailer hitch and wiring harness in the morning and leisurely installed everything in a couple of hours. The online videos were useful, and by using blocks and one scissor jack, installed the hitch myself. The wiring harness was also an easy install. No pinched fingers, no scratches and no swearing.

This was my second purchase from e-trailer and the service has been excellent both times.

I couldnt be happier with e-trailers service. They go out of their way to find parts, and their videos are very helpful.

by:
2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

First off, I like to say how well built the hitch is. The metal was heavy duty, and the welds were beautiful. I agree with others reviewers that the packaging could have been better constructed. My hitch came through the end of the box.
I also purchased the proper metric tap to clean up the rusted weld nuts. The new bolts went right in.
I did the job on my garage floor without any help by using a couple of jack stands to get the hitch in position to bolt up. The bolts weren’t easy to thread in, but with some persistence I got the job done. It fits and looks great.

Got the hitch receiver and had it installed within an hour of opening the box. Local guy wanted $20 more for the hitch receiver than etrailer, plus he wanted an $80 installation fee. $80 just to screw in 4 bolts? No thanks. Instructional video was selling point on how easy this was to install. Overall I've had a great experience dealing with etrailer.com.

The trailer hitch works great. I might eventually get around to ordering the trailer wiring but for now she just wanted to be able to put a bike rack on her car and the hitch enabled us to do that for her. Thanks again for the great service, instructional videos and quick - affordable free shipping on the hitch.
