Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Hitch came with box completely busted out. Missing hardware. Upon install, the hitch was bent and could not be installed. Would not recommend ordering from etrailer.

I am sorry to hear that your hitch arrived bent, however, it is very common for hitches to arrive slightly bent due to the material that the hitches are built with. If there was no flexibility in the hitch, we would run into the issue of stress fractures that would compromise the durability of the hitch. I have a link attached with more information for your reference, as well as how to bend the hitch back.

by:

I was an ASE certified, Toyota certified, and Ford certified tech for 7 years. This is the most poorly made product that I have ever attempted to install on a car or truck. The claim that it is allegedly suppose to tow over 5k lbs should be criminal. I would never tow with this, and I feel less safe knowing their might be more of these on the road. The factory threads on my passenger side frame are now toast from having to try to pry this hunk of **** into place despite the drivers side and middle already being hand threaded. All I wanted was to be able to put in a bed extender for a kayak, and I would barely trust it doing that.

It does sound like it was a tough install. It sounds like the passenger bracket was flexed out of alignment. I wanted to confirm that were able to install all the bolts on the hitch? Were you able to torque them down to the spec listed in the manual?

by:
2008 Honda Ridgeline

This thing was misaligned at the center plate, and also at one end. The mounting holes were off by at least 1/4 inch. If you don't have tools , it wont work. I had to bore out the hole to get it to line up to the vehicle. we also had to bend the center plate to get the alignment to work. Took 5 tries bringing down, drilling, putting it back up. There is zero precision. However, we have a trip in the next couple of days and returning neither guaranteed that we would get one that on time and that it was better than this. OEM needs to pay better attention to QC and measurements. that enter plate was welded 1/4 off. That and the misalignment at the ends, made me bore out the holes. Good thing I do metal work. Good luck. Took about 2 hours.
The box arrived pretty trashed, and scratches on the hitch. That is a don't care for me, its a hitch. However, they did not sand blast the metal prior to powder and any thing that will hit this will chip off the powder. I am just pointing out facts, I would buy it again. its pretty solid once installed. I would recommend they would provide grade 8 hardware.

Based on your photos, the trailer hitch appears to have been welded incorrectly - which caused your center plate bolt holes to be off by approximately 1/4 inch. Making modifications to a trailer hitch is strongly discouraged as it can compromise the integrity of the hitch. An incorrectly welded bracket would fall under a warranty issue.

2008 Honda Ridgeline

Heck of a product. It went on fairly easily, after bolting on the right side and middle the bolt holes didn't line up on the left side. All I had to do was put a slight amount of pressure with a crow bar and the lines up perfect!

Its been a year and its still working great! No problems. It was easier to put on than what I made it sound like earlier. Good Product and easy to install.

by:

No issues with the fit, but finish was scratched/damaged and the hardware was not included and they would not ship the hardware as priority.

by:
2007 Honda Ridgeline

Product came fast, tracking was accurate, it arrived in great condition. Install took about 45 min. I used car jacks and zippy ties to hold it in place. Bolts went in perfect. It would be so much easier if 2 people installed it, but I managed. Great product, and easy installation. I plan on using it to pull a small trailer with a power sprayer to use for my property management company. Thanks Etrailer.com

by:

Overall a super product, it's robustly made and it installed reasonably as expected. It needed a bit of brute force to get all the holes lined up correctly, however the effort was worth it. Highly recommended for anyone capabable of swinging a wrench.

2006 Honda Ridgeline

The hitch, wiring harness and 4-plug mounting bracket all arrived in a timely manner. The box was beat up pretty badly but all the pieces were there. Installation went exactly as expected. I had to pry one side a bit to get the alignment with frame holes, but it wasn't excessive and went on nicely. I used a lift so install took about 2 hours with the most time consuming being the wiring harness. The end result is a great looking hitch that functions perfect. Hooked up my boat the same day and went for a ride. The delivery, service and follow up by the people at etrailer was great. I will be keeping them in my favorites for the next time.

Nothing bad has happened since I installed it. So its all good.

by:
2008 Honda Ridgeline

The first hitch was received bent. etrailer sent out another one.
The second hitch was received even more bent. etrailer sent out a third hitch
The third hitch was received perfect.

Seems like the root cause was mis-handling through the shipper as the hitches were hanging out of the box when they arrived.

Shipping was 1 star but Customer Service through e-trailer is 5 star! They followed up after the issue was presented to them. The 3rd hitch was shipped quicker and as fragile and made the trip with no issues. The quality of the draw-tite seem great so far.

The hitch has been hanging in there pretty well, frequent bike rack use and monthly trailer towings. Only disappointment so far is that rust in the corners and near some of the welds is showing up.

Thanks for the follow up and reply. Rust on hitches is not uncommon, our manufacturers recommend using a high quality spray paint as a touch up as needed, after removing any surface rust and getting to the bare metal. I have included a link to one of our help articles for your reference.

The hitch did not fit my truck. After discussing the problem, I asked you to measure before you sent out another hitch. It was wrong also. I went to the shop and had one installed. Your not worth the problems!

I purchased the trailer hitch for my 2006 Honda Ridgeline, installed it myself, took approximately 1. 5 hours. I would recommend having someone help you, it would be much easier. All the bolt holes lined up perfectly and the installation went very smoothly. Great product!!

Hitch is working great, towed a tandem Uhaul trailer to California and back with no problems. Checked bolts prior to trip and they were still tight!!!

by:

Little bit of trouble lining up the mounting holes with my truck frame. In the end, I was unable to get one of the mounting bolts through. This has not interfered with my usage, since I don't do any heavy towing. I just use the hitch for my bike rack.

WOW! First the representative, Juanita, was absolutely fantastic tomwork with. The service was excellent with fast shipping and communication throughout up until delivery. Items artived unharmed and more than we were offered from other places for same product. It has not been put on as of yet but I am sure there will be no problem in that category either. I HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone who needs a hitch and I will make others aware of the website. Thank you Juniata for your kindness!!

Excellent service. The product did not fit exactly and had to have the center piece of metal bent to bolt on.The black power unit did not come with double sided tape to make the connection and i felt the ground wire should of been longer. All in all i would purchase other products from you again.

Fast shipping and easy to install. The videos on the site help. The box was damaged in shipping but that’s understandable. Very high quality item. The area where the two bolts was bent forward just a bit during shipping but I was able to move it back with some for took about 30 minutes to completely prep and install.

by:

Great service, great hitch. No issues installing it. Been using og for approximately 1 year with no problems.

by:
2006 Honda Ridgeline

Fit my vehicle perfectly with one small exception. The vertical plate that attaches to the bumper was slightly too far forward. One smack with a mallet fixed it and the hitch bolted on easily. Customer service is excellent.

Well, I liked the hitch and accessories a lot. Installation was easy. Unfortunately, a deer ran in front of the truck on Memorial Day weekend so I was only able to use the gear for a few weeks! The truck was totalled so I didnt get much of a chance to test. Thanks for checking and have a great week!

by:

Package came damaged flange was hanging outside of the box. When I tried to mount the hitch, the three holes on the passenger side didn’t line up. Either the flange is not parallel to its counterpart, or the center flange is not perpendicular so the hitch can’t move far enough backwards to line up the holes.

Since I mounted it alone I am hesitant about taking it off again. It’s a lot of work. I am going to try to rotate it with a large c clamp, but I don’t think that will be enough.

No, my ridge line has never been in an accident.

I’ve been an etrailer customer for 10 years because of their customer service & easy to use website.
Every hitch, wiring harness or accessory I’ve installed on vehicles from 1998 to current has never been an issue.
When my sons truck died before his hitch set up was installed their return policy was simple.

by:

Hitch itself is high quality and solidly made. However, when I took it out of the box it had several scratches and scraps that made it look like someone may have previously attempted to install. Another issue was the mounting hardware was in the receiver with plastic over and I thought it wasn't included. A call to Customer Service resolved that. The hitch install was straight forward and the video was helpful. However, the fit up was not exact and the hitch was racked out of square. I had to use a screw driver as a drift pin to line up the hitch and frame holes on each side. This made tightening some of the bolts pretty challenging at times. Once the hitch was drawn closer to the frame it did square up and finish was easy. I would strongly recommend using a thread tap if your vehicle is not brand new. I started with WD-40 and a small plastic brush and couldn't get any of the bolts more than 1/3 in. Some PB Blaster and a tap to chase the threads made a world of difference. Time to install hitch and wiring harness was about 2 hours. Final installation looks very clean.

This is my own review and I wanted to update. I installed the Draw Tight Hitch and light wiring on my 2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL yesterday. I did it by myself, old school. I did it all in three hours, laying on the ground. I wanted to see how difficult this would be. It wasnt as bad as I thought it might be. I cleaned the pre drilled threaded manufacturer holes with a battery brush and WD-40. This is the most important part. Clean them and run one of the bolts all the way in on every hole, otherwise this will be a huge pain. I used three heavy duty rubber bungies, one on each side and one in the middle, pre-hanging one end so I could grab it and stretch it under the hitch to support its weight after I got it under the truck. Thats right, after prepping, I laid on a piece of cardboard with the hitch on top of me and worked it into position after ing the muffler and heat shield, which was pretty easy. I worked it into position, used the bungies to hold it up and continued working it until I got all eight bolts started. I did need to use a crowbar to pry the receiver up into place as it is a tight fit. The wiring was easy after reading the instructions and I urge everyone to watch both videos of the entire installation on etrailer, it was very helpful to me. I called around and ask a couple of places what they would charge to mount the hitch and wire systems and the best estimate I got was $75. Its not easy to do this by yourself, but not so bad if you have a few tools and youre a cheapskate like me. Otherwise, watch the videos and get a friend to help and if you can get the vehicle safely off the ground, its a piece of cake. Thanks to etrailer for the great product, great price, the videos and help. You people are top notch in my book.

Since your 2011 Honda Ridgeline already has a trailer hitch receiver like the Draw-Tite # 75280, there are just a few other parts you'll need in order to tow.
