2005 Ford F-350, 450, and 550 Cab and Chassis

This is a great class IV hitch. I installed it on an 2005 F-350 Cab&Chassis. I had this great ICC bumper made out of 1/4 steel I think that I was considering just welding a receiver to, but then I didn't want to be responsible to losing a trailer that was hitched to something that had to actual rating so I opted for this hitch instead. Two slight problems were encountered with the install. First, the hitch and bumper wanted to occupy the same space, and second I have a 40gal aft gas tank that prevented drilling into the frame. The first problem was solved when I decided to just cut off the bumper cross member and reattach the sides, and the second problem was solved by lowering the gas tank on some jackstands about 8" so I could drill and screw. I needed about 1/4" shim on the bumper sides to account for the width of the hitch side bracket so that the bumper sides were on a flush surface. When I realized that Tasco mounted the whole aluminum bed on 1/2" wood, I decided to use up some pieces of wooden crates instead of using washers. Drilling into the frame is pretty easy once you watch a couple of [online] videos on proper technique (hint: more pressure and less speed). One person can install this easily, especially with the help of a jack. The main harness for the truck runs down the left frame, so be careful not to drill into it. Etrailer email support, prices and fast delivery were superb. Thank Guys.

This hitch is very well built and fit perfectly right out of the box. I towed a 22 ft 7000 lb enclosed trailer over 7000 miles with it last summer with no issues. I have recommended this hitch to two of my friends. Only thing I had to do was add a plate to hold the 7-pin connector.

Welding should be performed by a qualified professional welder with experience in this sort of installation. A custom fit hitch is not available for the 1988 Ford F-450 cab and chassis models.

  • What Size Trucks Frames Does Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C14048 Fit
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C14048 is designed to fit cab and chassis model trucks which all have a frame width of 34 inch to 34 inch measured on the outsides of the truck frame. This is narrower than standard frame trucks so if you have a truck that was originally a cab and chassis (came with no truck bed) this will fit and work well. If you have a different truck let me know. Here's a list of all of the trucks this hitch fits: 2015 - 2019 Ford F-350 Cab and Chassis 2001 - 2014...

  • Do I Need A Class IV Receiver Hitch For My 2014 Forest River Forester With Ford E450 Chassis
No you do not, provided you never flat tow a vehicle that is heavier than your motorhome's maximum gross trailer weight. Your Ford E450 chassis has the same weight limit has your hitch receiver, so it does not make a difference if you get a hitch receiver with a greater weight limit. The chassis will still limit how much weight you can flat tow.

  • Trailer Hitch for a 2007 Ford E-450 Shuttle Bus
I do have a possible solution for you but there are no custom fit hitches designed for converter Ford E-series vans. What you could use is a weld-on hitch. I have included a link to the weld-on hitch options we offer. The issue is that the bodies used on the conversions are larger than the standard vans so a custom fit hitch for a regular van model would likely not fit. And there are so many conversion possibilities that hitch manufacturers cannot test them all. The weld-on hitches are...

  • Installing Curt Hitch on 2005 Ford F-350 Cab and Chassis
Thank you for the excellent photos, and for starters, you are correct that it will help ease installation if you lower the gas tank on your 2005 Ford F-350 Cab and Chassis when installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C14048. In regards to drilling, yes, you can drill through the off-center rivet head to install the hitch. This hitch is a fit for quite a few different trucks which is why it doesn't specify this in the directions.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2009 Jayco Motor Home Built on a Ford E-450 Chassis
The only hitch that is going to work for a 2009 Ford E-450 RV cutaway model is a multi-fit motor home hitch like # 13703. Measure the outside to outside frame distance. If it is 22 to 72 inches wide you can use this hitch. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view. The Curt trailer hitch you have referenced will not fit because it is custom designed to fit on various trucks but not Ford vans. The vehicles this hitch fits have narrower frames than the van chassis.

The most popular option is # 13703. It can actually be bolted on or welded on. Welding should be done by a professional welder. It will fit frame widths (outside of one frame rail to the outside of the other) from 22 inches to 72 inches. And it fits box frames, I-beam frames, and C-channel frames. • Trailer Hitch Side Brackets and Mounting Hole Dimensions for 2009 Ford F-Series Cab and Chassis
The Curt # C14048 measures 16-1/16 inches from the back to the center of the 3 front holes. Those front holes are all 1-1/2 inches on center so you technically could use the 14.565 inch measurement. There is not one that is closer to 15 inches in mounting hole dimensions. The Curt # C15410 measures 13-1/2 inches from front to back on center if you need a smaller distance which makes the overall distance of the mount right around 15 inches.
