Hitch arrived with wrong hardware package. When I called to get correct hardware, my order wasn’t expedited in any way; it didn’t ship until the next day, and took several days to arrive. So, what should have taken an afternoon to complete, took most of a week. Furthermore, the bolt holes on the driver’s side did not line up well and took additional “finesse” to get the bolts started. Additionally, the hitch did not come with the hitch bar that was shown in one of the on-line photos. I was told that that was extra; that photo has since been deleted from te product page. I wouldn’t call this the best on-line merchant transaction I’ve ever had.

Great hitch. I installed this on a 2003 PT Cruiser. It took two of us senior citizens an hour and 20 minutes to install. Lowering the muffler involved removing two 10mm bolts that held the front strap and two that held the back plus one more that connected a braided ground to the frame. After that, it was easy for two of us to slip the hitch over the muffler and position it. Note: Do yourself a favor and snug the four vertical bolts that hold the hitch to the vehicle frame first. That will make inserting the four horizontal bolts much easier (the holes will line up).

I am using this with an aluminum Hitch Haul style cargo carrier to carry gasoline and propane outside of the vehicle, so I have a 1 1/4" - 2" converter with a 4.5" rise to get the carrier off of the ground. Item MT70355.

Great product, installation was easy and instructions very good.
I didn't use any power tools and had to jack up the car put it on safety stands and use a creeper and it only took me one hr.
I removed the spare tire and removed both brackets from the frame for the muffler. The T-one wiring harness yellow wire could have been about two or three inchs longer but I made it work.

Awesome timing and it fit perfectly

Chrysler PT Cruiser

It's a perfect addition to my son's PT cruiser. Now with the retro look of the PT cruiser he can tow his 1980 smoker craft boat with the antique outboard motor. Thanks again E trailer for great products and my fifth hitch I purchased from you.

2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser

Fit perfectly! I have always been happy with the quality of the products that you sell. Shipping was fast and arrived on time.

by:

I had the hitch installed by a professional. They reviewed my order and confirmed the hitch I ordered was perfect. When I took to them for installation, they said it took less than an hour. Was easy to install. No problems. Worked perfect.
THANKS etrailer! for working with me and helping me choose the hitch that will work for my needs.
I'm using it with a bicycle rack for my 4 wheel walker so I don't have to put in the back seat or trunk anymore.
The rack you said will work - is AWESOME too! Very well made and looks like won't even have to modify it!
THANKS again!
Sorry - no photos right now.

still working great! thanks!

First, the hitch was shipped out on a Sunday, and arrived by Friday eve to Oregon.
I've installed a few trailer hitches over the years requiring some "fiddling" to get holes lined up. This Curt hitch fit like a glove. I was able to hand-start all the supplied bolts without filing or fairing holes. Once installed, which took me about an hour up on my hoist, the fitment to the body was perfect....couldn't be better. Very pleased.

Chrysler PT Cruiser

I tried etrailer because they had the best price. Thats all. My order showed up way ahead of schedule, like 3 days earlier which was a huge help to me. They also had a video of the installation. I borrowed a torque wrench from a friend and did it myself right in the driveway. Fit perfect. I sold that pt cruiser that I installed this hitch on last month and I plan to order a new fifth wheel hitch through etrailer for the f350 I have just bought. This was my honest experience and I am happy to be placing another order soon.

2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser

This was by far the easiest hitch I've installed. Removed the 2 factory rear tie downs (used when your car was shipped on the truck) which was 8 bolts, removed just the rear muffler hanger and the small ground strap and was able to slide the hitch in above the tailpipe without having to remove the front muffler rubber hanger. Wiring it took longer than installing the hitch but was pretty straight forward. Watched the install video a few times as I had a problem with the left brake light not working after finishing. Had the connector in the wrong place and it was an easy fix.

by:

This is my third tow hitch purchase from eTrailer.com and the quality of their products is the BEST! (CURT hitch and wiring kit)
Installation is "easy peasy" with all holes perfectly aligned and videos available to show step by step instructions including a list of tools needed!

by:

Went in perfectly. Looks great!

by:
2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser

The hitch went on without issue. Drop the exhaust like suggested and you will be done within an hour. When removing the factory bolts hit them with a little penetrating oil first and use hand tools. Air tools can quickly round the head on an old rusty bolt.

This install was on a 2002 PT Cruiser and the hitch tucks nicely behind the fender plastic.

by:
2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser

I one manned this installation, it went fine 99.9% of the time. Would recommend two person install if you have a friend to help.

by:

It fits perfect. The engineers really got it right with this product. Took me a little longer than the stated 40 minutes, but that was mainly because I'm working with floor jack and jack stands. Once I had her in the air and secured the installation was a breeze. Everything lined up perfect. I love that it is made in the USA. And the price is incredible. Thanks etrailer.

by:
2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser

Before you get comfortable under your Cruiser have a 10 mm socket for the muffler ground strap and 15mm wrench and socket w/long extension to remove the original bolts. The new bolts are 17mm. You also need to lower the spare down to slide the hitch into place. I took mine all the way out and discovered it only had 15 pounds of air. I want to say it looks great but it is so well tucked away you can't see it!

by:

I was tired of putting my bicycle in the back of my vehicle so I purchased this hitch in order to use a Thule hitch rack. It was a perfect fit and super easy to install. Awesome customer service too!

Chrysler PT Cruiser

I ordered this for my PT Cruiser and it went on with no drama at all--perfect fit, very sturdy, and I've taken it on the road with no trouble at all. Very well made. One thing--if you don't have access to a lift, you might want to consider taking it to a shop and having it put on for you--especially if you're over 40 years old and installing the Curt wiring kit. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the design or the installation directions for any of the components--it just takes a lot less time and effort if you don't have to jack the car up on stands and do the limbo for a couple of hours. If you have a lift handy, I'd guess the install would take less than an hour total for both wiring and hitch.

by:

Price was great. Ordered on tuesday received on friday.
Installation took about 45 minutes for the Hitch. Wiring took about an hour. Running wire from battery to rear was hardest part .
Instructions were great. One of the easiest projects I've ever done.
Would definetly recommend to anyone.

Good Service, Reasonable Price, Fast Delivery, Easy Install, what
more could You ask for.

Thanks Russ

  • What Class Of Trailer Hitch Is Available For A 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser
The only hitches made for the 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser are Class I hitches like the Curt Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch # C11132. Class I hitches are rated at 2,000 lbs. gross towing weight capacity and 200 lbs. tongue weight. The weight capacity you will be able to tow is determined by the towing weight capacity of your vehicle. The Chrysler PT Cruiser has a low towing weight capacity and that is why there are no Class II or Class III hitches available for your vehicle.

  • What is the Capacity of Curt Trailer Hitch 11132 for a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser
I am not sure what you mean by system rating but the Curt trailer hitch # C11132 is rated for 200 pounds tongue weight and 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for its towing capacities. Always go by the lower rating. The hitch meets Regulation V-5 and SAE J684 regulations. If you plan on towing with this hitch the correct ball mount to use is # C45520 with pin and clip #...

  • Will Trailer Hitches for a 1998 Dodge Neon Fit a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser
We do have several trailer hitches designed to fit the 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser, including the Curt Trailer Hitch, # C11132, that you have referenced. I have included a link to the available option below as well as a link to the installation instructions for the Curt hitch. The available trailer hitches for the 1998 Dodge/Plymouth Neon will not fit the 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The trailer hitches for the Neon were designed to fit its unique frame which differs from the PT Cruiser. The...

  • Difference in Curt Hitch # C11132 and Draw-Tite # 24759 for a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser
Both the Curt 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # C11132 and the Draw-Tite 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 24759 for your 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser are very similar hitches. They both have a 200-lb tongue weight capacity. The difference in the two hitches is the Curt hitch does not require any drilling to install and the Draw-Tite requires two 1/2 inch holes to be drilled in the frame. The Draw-Tite might take a little longer to install due to the drilling of the frame. The Curt hitch uses 4 bolts on each...

  • Why Do I need a Stabilizer Strap to Use a 2 Bike Hitch Rack on a Curt # C11132 Hitch
The purpose of the stabilizer straps is to prevent the bouncing and jarring that bike racks usually experience when hitting bumps from damaging the hitch. The strap you would want is the Curt Bike Rack Strap, part # 18050. The reason you want to use a stabilizer strap is that you might twist your the hitch up or damage the frame of your 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser. If you use the stabilizer strap you would have no problem carrying two bikes on a hitch mounted bike carrier. For a bike rack...

  • Why is Towing Capacity of 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Lower
The towing capacity of a vehicle is more than just horsepower and torque unfortunately. It's also based on the transmission, cooling system, brakes, and chassis strength. This is why for your 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser there are only Class I hitches available like the Curt # C11132. Unless the trailer and car are less than 2,000 lbs this wouldn't work.

  • Correct Ball Mount Recommendation to Tow Malone EcoLight Trailer with PT Cruiser and Curt Hitch
You asked a great question about picking out the correct rise/drop ball mount for towing the Malone EcoLight Trailer part # MAL53FR. Basically you want to go with the ball mount that has the correct rise/drop to allow the trailer to sit as level as possible. So when the Curt hitch part # C11132 is installed on your 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser it's going to have a distance of 11-1/4 inches from the top of the hitch opening down to the ground and the Malone trailer has a distance of 15 inches...

  • Parts Needed To Haul A Vespa With A 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser
With the vehicle only having a 1000lb towing capacity for the vehicle you would only have a 100lb tongue weight capacity so hauling a cargo carrier with 225lbs on it would exceed the capacity of the vehicle and the hitches that are available for this vehicle. There are adapters that can give you a 2" receiver but the downside is that adapters reduce the overall capacity of the hitch by 50% so you'd end up with too little capacity to haul your Vespa. The only way you'll be able to safely...

You'l want to verify that in your copy of the manual, but so long as you meet those capacities you are able to tow. There are two options for a trailer hitch receiver for your vehicle, the Draw-Tite # 24759 and Curt # C11132, and I highly recommend the Curt because it does not require drilling to install while the Draw-Tite...
