Took me 30 minutes. Lined up perfect, hardest/trickiest part was removing the exhaust hangers. I had all tools for the job, so went very smooth! Thank you etrailer

by:

Good fit. I would recommend dropping the spare tire just to give yourself extra room to work and after I dropped the spare it was easier to line up the bolts. Would recommend this hitch.

J O.

9/14/2014

Are you still able to freely remove the spare tire once the hitch is installed?

Wingnut

9/18/2014

Yes the Spare tire is still accessible.

2008 Mitsubishi Outlander

Something was wrong with the unit I received. I'm not sure if it was bent during shipping, or there was a manufacturing defect, but this was a nightmare to install on my 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander.

Everything looked fine until I tried to bolt it on. The passenger side was off by about 2.5" from the bolt holes, and the drivers side off by about 0.75". Both sides were too narrow, so it wasn't an alignment issue. I had already dropped my exhaust at this point, and had cleaned up the bolt threads, so I struggled through the install, and after about 6 hours I got it installed.

To get it installed, I put the middle hitch bolt in, and then jammed my scissor jack between the spare tire and the passenger side of the hitch. I cranked the hitch apart with the jack, and then used another scissor jack to push up on it. After a bunch of tweaking and cranking the hitch apart, this got the bolt holes almost aligned. From there, I used a pry bar to align it on the last axis and I could just get one bolt in without a washer. That allowed me to get another bolt in without a washer. At that point, I could remove the first bolt and put it back in with the washer installed. I repeated this with the middle bolt and put the washer on and then finally get the last bolt in. One side done...

I did the same thing with 2x jacks on the other end, and finally got it installed. Aligning the bolt holes took about 5 hours instead of the 15 minutes I expected. It looks fine now that its installed.

I called etrailer about it, so they can check their stock. Hopefully my issue were just a one off, and it's not a bad batch, so other people don't have to struggle the same way!

Easy ordering process customized to your vehicle. Prompt delivery. Perfect fit. Excellent follow up by customer support.
Recommended to all.

by:

This hitch fit perfectly and looks great on our small SUV as well. Its a really heavy-duty hitch and was a lot heavier than I expected. I won't be hauling anything heavy with my small SUV, but this hitch provides convenience for our bike carrier. it also has a flat flange on it that acts as a convenient step for loading stuff on to of our vehicle.

Easy to install and its been a great addition over the past year of travel, bike races and camping.

2009 Mitsubishi Outlander

The Product was delivered fast. & was a relatively easy install (would recommend 2 people). Product is clean and well made.

by:

Product fits perfectly and looks like it belongs there. I recommend this over the OEM one as it costs less and is rated higher.

The hardest part of installation was getting the bolts to go into the undercarriage as dirt and grime builds up in the bolt holes. Clean up the holes and oil the bolt threads up a bit before installing the hitch and everything should go smoothly.

2009 Mitsubishi Outlander

Bought this hitch receiver for our '09 Mitsubishi Outlander to pull our boat. The hitch receiver came with everything needed to mount it. A heads up for others installing - the frame mounted nuts on the vehicle were very corroded and didn't allow the bolts included with the kit to thread in. We ended up needing to run a tap of the same size/thread through them before installing, after that the install was a breeze!

by:

The trailer hitched arrived at my house in a timely fashion, and everything was in good shape. The installation went smoothly, and the online videos were very helpful.

by:
2007 Mitsubishi Outlander

etrailer.com is the best! Had the hitch in 3 days with free shipping. Bolted on my 07 Outlander in 20 mins. No need to pry or twist to make anything fit. Videos online are a huge plus to assess the project and get everything ready. Oh...and the best price and quickest delivery was just an added bonus. Box was torn, which is unfortunately common with an item like this, but all the hardware was taped well to the hitch so nothing gets lost. That's why I am a repeat customer. They don't disappoint.

by:

Fit as expected, instructions were very good. Installation was fairly simple and only basic knowledge is necessary

No issues. I’ve used the hitch a number of times and there have been no problems.

by:

Perfect Fit Bolt holes lined up took like 30 minutes

by:

Still waiting for decent weather to install this hitch. Item arrived poking out of the huge carton, but with no damage. The installation videos from etrailer will be a great help, as visualization is a good part of preparation.

2007 Mitsubishi Outlander

Perfect Fit! Never thought we'd find anything close to being called a hitch for our 2007 Outlander. Goes on with a little work, but hang in there it is worth it. This saved us money because now we can use the same bicycle rack from our RV and switch over to the car. What a great hitch. Great quality too. Etrailer.com shipped out right away and we received super fast. Thank so much!

Hitch Receiver came bent (manufacturing defect) and had to be replaced

by:
2010 Mitsubishi Outlander

Shipping and receiving was insanely fast. I ordered online and it shipped in less than 2hrs. I received it the next day and the shipping was free. If it has better packaging I would have given 5 stars. The hitch receiver was in a box by itself no bubble wrap or paper. There were holes in the where it was sticking out. And there were a few dings on the paint. It's under the car so not a big deal. Install went pretty good. It took a while because my vehicle is 11 years old. I used a tap to clean out the weld nuts on my car. I got one side bolted up and the other side I had to use a pry bar to get the bolts to line up with the holes on the opposite side. Overall I am very happy with the purchase.

by:

Product was just as described. Some minor modifications that I needed to do consisted of adjusting the factory tow hook slightly. This involved using a rubber mallet and hitting the tow hook to the left and the mount to the right.

Other than that, no issues.

A useful tip for releasing the exhaust mounts is to removed passenger side rear wheel and use plummer's wrench and twist off the mounts.

2008 Mitsubishi Outlander

The hitch looks very well made - I was a welder for a number of years, and am impressed with the quality, and feel the price was excellent.

I found your company via Google search (how else anymore?) and your web site made it very fast and easy to locate the correct hitch. I'll definitely recommend etrailer to others.

2008 Mitsubishi Outlander

eTrailer shipped fast and provided great communication throughout the order. The instructions provided were good, but also suggest watching the video as well. It provides some tips to make this easier. Like most, we had to use a pry bar to align the holes on 1 side. Also, we could not get a torque wrench on the Hex Flange nut on tow loop.

One note for us amateurs; Conical washers have the ridge side facing the frame. This should be obvious based on the design, but for those of us who follow instructions it would have been nice to have this noted in the instruction page or video.

by:
2009 Mitsubishi Outlander

the hitch arrived quickly and with my dad's help we got it installed very quickly. Less that two hours. Fits like a glove. Excellent hitch. Easy to install.

by:
2007 Mitsubishi Outlander

Description of prduct accurate and instillation video very helpful. Needed to do everything mentioned in video. The hitch matched perfectly to the pre-set holes in the vehicle.
Bike rack was better than I expected. Very sturdy.

by:

Bolts right on.Nice hitch. Requires some persuasion for installation as most hitches do. For the most part it bolts right on nicely. You'll have to drop the exhaust but it drops easily if you follow instructions. Two people make installation easier.

by:

Could not have been easier,This install was so well thought out that it took longer to lower the rubber exhaust hangers than to bolt the hitch on.The wiring was equally simple.............Thanks

by:

Great product - Excellent ServiceGood communication and it arrived when they promised. I was at first concerned as it appeared the shipping company tweaked the hitch a bit and it didnt appear to fit. I called and they gave me both assurance and instructions on how to fix it. It took a couple of tries but we got it lined up and bolted on perfectly. I would definatly use this compan again and recommend it to all. Thank You!

by:

Perfect fit. Great finish. Clear intallation instructions. Fast shipping and great customer service.

  • Recommendation On Cleaning Out Weld Nuts On A 2008 Outlander To Install A Hitch
There are actually two different size bolts used to install the Curt # 13581 on your 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander. The Bolt that will line up with the tow hook will be a standard 1/2-13 thread, but the other 6 bolts will be M10 x 1.25. If the weld nuts are looking gummed up to the point of needing a tap or thread chaser, I highly recommend first soaking them in WD-40 and giving them a good scrub with a nylon tube brush, like the # 814092, to get the majority of the gunk out. This will give...

  • Troubleshooting Vibration/Buzz at Idle After Trailer Hitch Install
It sounds like your exhaust may be rattling against the hitch when at idle. This is a fairly common problem that can be fixed pretty easily. Basically you will have to reposition the exhaust so that it is further away from the hitch and will no longer contact it at idle. I attached a help article and video for you to check out that will detail how to fix the problem.

  • Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device for Curt Hitch 13581 on a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander GT
An anti-rattle hitch lock that uses a regular hex-head bolt should fit your Curt trailer hitch # 13581. Take a look at # SR25219. The head will be approximately 3/4 inches wide so measuring from the center of the hitch pin that would be 3/8 of an inch. If you have 3/8 of an inch from the center of the pin hole to the bar on your hitch then this lock would work. Another option is to use a regular hitch lock such as # C23519 and a stand-alone anti-rattle device like # BX88224.

  • Can Curt Trailer Hitch For 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander Carry 350 lb Motorcycle and Carrier
The answer to your question is yes, the Curt hitch # 13581 that fits your 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander, will be able to carry the combined 350 lb weight of your motorcycle and carrier due to its 400 lb tongue weight capacity. The only thing you want to do is check the owner's manual of your '07 Outlander (I was unable to find a copy online) to ensure the vehicle has the same capability. We recommend that all non-trailer loads (bike racks, cargo carriers, etc) should be supported by a stabilizing...

  • Brake Controller Installation Kit & 7-Way Mounting Bracket for 2010 Mitsibushi Outlander V6
When we installed Curt hitch # 13581 on a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander the hitch pin hole in the receiver was only 2-inches forward of the rear bumper so you will probably be better off with the short no-drill bracket # 18140. This will clamp onto your hitch tube with the included ring clamp. The 7-way bracket included in the # ETBC7 kit will in turn screw on to the no-drill bracket. You will have plenty of space behind the rear of the 7-way to clear your hitch cross tube.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Option for 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander for Towing Small Trailer
That's going to depend on a few things. How much does the trailer weigh? What does the owners manual of your 2007 Outlander state as the towing capacity? From the research I did on your vehicle it has a towing capacity of between 2,000 lbs and 3,500 lbs depending on how it is equipped. If your trailer will weigh less than 2k than it's going to easily be towable. The Curt hitch part # 13581 is a fit for your vehicle and would work well. It would have more capacity than you'd need so you...

I did some research on your vehicle though and it has a capacity range of 1,500 to 3,500 lbs depending on how it is equipped so you will need to check the owner's manual of your vehicle to verify what the capacity is and go by it as the overall capacity. • What is Purpose of Tie Down Loops on Curt Hitch # 13581
On the Curt hitch part # 13581 that you referenced the two loops you mentioned are for safety chains from a trailer. If somehow the coupler failed, and the trailer became disconnected the safety chains would hold the trailer to the hitch and prevent it from running away.
