A true bolt-in hitch. No bumper fascia trimming needed.

Thank you etrailer.

Great hitch, works perfectly. It does take some time to cut out the bumper hole on my BMW X3 but that has nothing to do with the hitch, it just makes the install take a bit longer. Great product.

Install was easy, very straight forward, hitch works perfectly.

2007 BMW X3

I put this on my 2007 X3 M sport package. BMW did not offer a hitch for M sport package X3 and this hitch did require some material be cut away from the inner bumper in order to fit. The clearance cuts were easily done by a Dremel tool. The hitch bolts up in place of the bumper reinforcement. Removal of the bumper cover was a little intimidating but turned out to be simple and easy. The instructions were helpful but I did not have to cut out as much material as the instructions said to cut. I also had to cut out a section of the bumper cover to provide clearance around the hitch (shown in the pictures). I think it turned out very good and most people would never guess it is not OEM factory hitch. I use it to haul a 10' trailer (mulch trailer) and also a hitch mount motorcycle carrier that works great.

2004 BMW X3

This product has been great, exactly as described! Thanks etrailer.com for helping us get a four bike rack hooked up to my wife's X3, we have taken many family bike trips with our thule rack hooked up to this hitch and it has been awesome!

Fitment was not tough at all, even on our 2004 model that required a bumper removal and slight trimming of the plastic. Your videos were great and made this a breeze for anyone who is moderately adept with their hands and a few tools.
thanks again!

2007 BMW X3

I purchased this hitch for my Grilfriend's car so she could use a bike rack.
the hitch looked good and the price was Great. ordering was EZ, and I got an Email that it was shipping the next morning, it did and I get it delivered by the end of the week. the Hitch was Very Beefy and looked Great! We watched the videos on the install and went to town, EZ install ! Girlfriend did one side and I did the other. I did the cutting with the Dremel and it turned out really nice.
I would do this again!!! took under 2 hours with the extra cutting.

by:
2007 BMW X3

This is a solid, inexpensive trailer hitch that I was able to install myself using the great videos etrailer.com has on their site. They even had separate videos for all 3 model years of my particular vehicle.

Installation was difficult, mainly because I had to remove so much trim just to access and remove the bumper, but etrailer.com warned me it would be. The actual installation of the hitch itself was a breeze.

All in I saved over $300 by buying from etrailer.com and installing myself. Also had fun sending my wife the pic of the dismantled bumper with the line "What do I do with all this now?!!" and freaking her out!

by:

For the bumper cut-out, I found I had to cut a square hole, 7" wide. This was necessary to be able to get access to the hitch pin hole, which ends up inside the bumper. See the attached for the template I used to make the cut-out. I also cut 2 small notches on the inside of the bumper (see red circles in photos), to provide clearance for the end plates on the hitch. Other than the above, installation went as advertised.

2007 BMW X3

2007 BMW X3 with M sports package. Very good quality hitch, be careful how much you cut as per instructions do not cut to the top of lower bumper, but just a half inch above lower bumper crease, one can always cut more, but one cannot replace what is cut. In addition I had a bow on the left side from the end of the hitch, I had to remove bumper again and cut a small notch inside the lower bumper, this notch is not visible from the outside, very acceptable, go slow take your time one can always cut more. The wiring kit was awesome! The e trailer video was right on! I had it completed in just under one hour! Over all very satisfied with e trailer, great prices, great customer service, fast deliver. I suggest you search the internet for additional info before you start. E trailer has some really good videos. However additional info is always helpful. Thumbs up for etrailer! Ordered the 13573 Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" for my 2005 BMW X3 om May 18, got it May 22. Excellent. I'm pretty handy but felt a little daunted when the instructions gave an indication of fitting times 10/10 :( Expert a couple of hours or so, novice, quite a bit longer ha ha ha ha. Well, to cut a long story short, it took me an hour and a half on my own. Instructions were pretty good, I also back these up with images from the install video using my snipping tool on my PC. All in all, very happy.

by:
2008 BMW X3

All good! I bought this for my 2008 BMW X3. It was fairly easy for a novice to install (need to have a torque wrench). I use it for a cargo tray to carry my camping gear. Very happy with this purchase and the customer service.

2010 BMW X3

Spot on Perfect for 2008 BMW X3. Etrailer rates it as a 10 on the how hard this is to put on your vehicle yourself. Id say more like a 4-5, if you have any wrenching experience at all. It just takes a bit of time. The video on site tells you the exact steps and it was perfect. You will need a dremel tool to cut the trim.
Super Price. You cannot find a better priced hitch or better quality for the money. That being said, I believe they could charge more this item, the quality is that good.
I very highly recommend Etrailer to anyone looking for a hitch.

2005 BMW X3

Think it was two days and the trailer hitch was at my front door “)
Only thing i had to do was give the bumper cover a quick jerk and it come right off. 4 nuts off, 4 nuts on and back together it went with no problems. Needless to say i was shocked about the ease of doing it myself and saving literally hundreds of dollars and i liked that part also! Took about an hour at a snails pace!
Thank you much “

I do a lot of fabricating of my own, so I was really suprised at tthe quaility and workmanship of the bar. My bmw is a 2007 and you don't have to trim the inner bumper as shown in the pictures. It looked like it would clear so I tried it first, fit perfectly----The shipping was great and arrived on due date. About 2 hrs to install!

It was everything I needed.

2009 BMW X3

Fairly easy install and great hitch. Well made and a perfect fit for my BMW 2008 X3. Took about 2.5 hours of install time. I also had to run to the hardware store for a 20mm deep socket to attach the hitch. I used the 2009 video as I felt that was closest to my 2008 and all the fasteners that were removed to take the bumper off were the same as the video. Two observations. I wish the 2009 video would have indicated that the bumper sides have to be pulled out and away from the car. I did not know this and it was not shown on the video, took a little bit of working to figure that out. The bigger observation is why they make you trim and notch the inner bumper. With my car this was totally unnecessary and wasted about 20 minutes to mark and cut. After the installation I looked under the bumper where I notched and there is no observable reason for it. There would have been an inch or more of clearance from the bumper to the hitch without notching, now there is about 2 inches. So I am not clear about that step in the installation instructions at least with the 2008.

2006 BMW X3

the hitch itself seems very well made. welds were clean and it is very sturdy. i was not thrilled with the overall fitment as this hitch replaces an inner bumper support and it causes bowing of the bumper. the oem piece is beveled at the ends where as this piece is very square and causes potrusion of the bumper. i was also not thrilled with the directions for cutting the bumper. if you follow the measurements there will be roughly a 2 inch gap from the cut to the hitch on the diffuser. it is not very noticeable on my car because it is black, but knowing it is there is frustrating. i may buy a new diffuser from bmw and recut now that i have done this once.

Ive got an 06 x3 msport also, is it an easy install?? First look was that the entire back needed to come off? Im not the most mechanical person on the planet, but always up for saving the $250 Uhaul wants to charge

The bumper cover will need to be removed and then reinstalled. Check out the video of our install on a 2009. It walks through the install, step by step, and will show you what needs to be done to accomplish the install.

2007 BMW X3

Ordered the hitch to haul bikes on my 2007 X3. Upgraded to 3 day shipping and was very happy with the fast shipping and quality of the hitch.

Installed on my own in about 2 hours. Hardest part of installation was putting the fascia material back together. Video was very helpful.

I used a bosch oscillating saw to make my cuts and it worked perfectly. I agree with other reviewers that there was no need to cut the square part of the bumper. Plenty of clearance.

Very happy with etrailer and ease of installation. Thank You!

Hitch has been perfect for the last year. 1010!

by:

I love the hitch. It is sturdy and very functional. My car mechanic did not like it as much. Apparently, my 2007 X3 was not designed identically to the 2008. The installation instructions were not so accurate for the 2007. My mechanic couldn't put the plastic cover back on after installation. It took him 3.5 hours to install the hitch (and he's done plenty on other BMW's).

Good quality hardware and excellent installation video- I proceeded towing a camper on vacation with confidence. Installing is not for the average car owner- prospective purchasers should review the installation video before making plans on who would install this. Personally I knew I could do the work but initially I was thinking the time and effort might not be worth it. However when I saw that U-Haul wants $450 for installation (not including lighting, and selling you their hitch at a higher price), suddenly I was willing and eager to install it myself and found satisfaction in doing so.

by:

I mounted this to a 2005 BMW X3 and it is rock solid. I used the videos from etrailer and did it myself. Those videos made it simple to install. Looks good installed, and worked well during my towing.

I haven’t had the need to use the hitch much lately. I moved over a year ago and used the hutch to tow a trailer. Everything worked great. The best part is that I installed it myself. I used your videos to help me. They are amazing and made things go smoothly. Thanks for the follow up. I really value etrailer. Great products at great prices with great support.

  • 2004 BMW X3 Curt Trailer Hitch Recommendation
The only solution I can provide for you is the hitch for your 2004 BMW X3. The Curt hitch part # 13573 is listed as a fit. But since the # AMC400 weighs 37 lbs you would not have the tongue weight capacity for the weight of it plus your 280 lb dirt bike. You would be about 17 lbs too heavy. Plus this carrier is designed for hitches with tongue weights that are at least 500 lbs in capacity. Our expert opinion is going to be to find a small trailer to tow with your X3 that you can load your...

The spare tire on your 2008 BMW X3 will not be affected in any way with a trailer hitch installed so no worries there. The install is pretty involved, requiring the removal of the rear bumper fascia and bumper. The hitch actually replaces the bumper beam located behind the fascia.
