2004 BMW X3 Curt Trailer Hitch Recommendation
Question:
I am planning to buy the curt trailer hitch receiver custom fit - class 111 - 2. for my 2004 BMW X3 3.0. Will this match to Rage Power-sport aluminum motorcycle carrier? If yes, My second inquiry, is this okay to carry my dirt bike 280lbs. The tongue weight specs of my bmw is 300lbs. Please let me know your expert opinion. Thank you very much,

The only solution I can provide for you is the hitch for your 2004 BMW X3. The Curt hitch part # 13573 is listed as a fit. But since the # AMC400 weighs 37 lbs you would not have the tongue weight capacity for the weight of it plus your 280 lb dirt bike. You would be about 17 lbs too heavy. Plus this carrier is designed for hitches with tongue weights that are at least 500 lbs in capacity.
Our expert opinion is going to be to find a small trailer to tow with your X3 that you can load your dirt bike into. For trailer wiring you would need the part # C59236.
If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
