Video Transcript for Review of Curt Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - C49FR

Jeff: Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at the Curt two and five sixteenths diameter stainless steel hitch ball. Has a 15,000-pound weight capacity. Now this hitch ball provides a connection point for your trailer's coupler. Does use the fine threads here on the shank.

Provides a nice tight strong grip. And it is a corrosion resistant stainless steel construction. Has the lock washer and the nut all included for installation.Again, the ball diameter is two and five sixteenths diameter. Weight capacity, which is stamped on the top, is 15,000 pounds. A few dimensions on this.

The shank dimension. Measure the diameter on the shank. It's right at one and a quarter inches diameter. The length on it, it's right at three inches long.So this is designed to fit a ball platform that's at least three eighths of an inch thick and it has a one and a quarter inch diameter ball hole. That should do it for the review on the Curt two and five sixteenths stainless steel hitch ball with the 15,000 pound weight capacity.

Listing Indicates A 2-5/8" Shank Length. However, The Hitch Ball I Received Has A 3" Shank Length. This Is Longer Than I Originally Wanted. The Description On Curts Website Is Also Incorrect. The Quality Of The Ball Is Very Good. Please Correct The Specs On Your Listing.

Well that is odd. It seems to me that the diagram that is on our site is pretty misleading, measurement wise. You will need to measure from the top of the threading to the very end of the shank, that is the usable space. Which is the measurement quoted on our site. I have sent in a request to get this diagram updated to show the exact measurements.

As always, no problems with either the item purchased from eTrailer, or with the company itself!!

by:

Bought this Class I hitchball because the rest of my installation is Class I. Made sense at the time, but the 2” Class II ball is a tighter fit on the U-Haul trailers I rent, and that is probably better for the inevitable rattling. In the end this Curt ball is both good and cheap, and that is a winning combination for me.

by:

Worked like a charm and the team at trailer was very helpful in finding the right solution. Traveled across the country hauling a trailer with my SUV and this fit perfectly.

by:

I bought this 2" hitch ball because I needed a little bit longer shank for my Toyota Tacoma. The etrailer service was very prompt and shipped in a bomb-proof box.

by:

This is the perfect hitch ball to match the capacity of the hitch on my Class A Motor Home, giving me a margin of safety for the entire towing system when pulling my car / dolly.

Best price , very good 2" hitch Ball , Chrome is nice and clean. Fast delivery. Thank you, Mike Kaplan

  • How Close To a 3" Rise Ball Mount For 2" Receiver Do I Need?
The Draw-Tite Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # 2753 will work just fine for your situation. I wouldn't be to overly concerned over a 1/4" difference in the height measurement. I usually suggest to be plus or minus 1" for the height. This ball mount is rated for 7,500lbs towing and 750lbs tongue weight. You will need a 2" Hitch Ball # 63845 or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40007 with a 1" shank. If you are concerned we do have the Draw-Tite Ball Mount # 4281 that is a 3" rise. This ball mount is rated...

  • Is Weight Distribution Hitch For Grey Wolf 23MK Causing Bouncing
Often when there is significant bouncing in can indeed be attributed to a weight distribution hitch being rated too highly for your set up as it will be too stiff. I'm not sure what system you currently have, though a Grey Wolf 23MK has a GVWR of 7,600 lbs based on my research, so your loaded tongue weight is likely going to be in the 900 lb to 1,000 lb range, though you can verify this with a scale like the etrailer Tongue Weight Scale # e99044. So, if your system is rated higher than...

  • What Size Socket Is Needed To Tighten Nut Of 2-5/16 Hitch Ball C49FR?
The 2-5/16" Hitch Ball - 1-1/4" Diameter x 2-5/8" Long Shank - Stainless Steel - 15K # C49FR you were looking at uses a 1-7/8" nut, and will need a 1-7/8" socket like the # ALL643216. In addition you will need to use a very heavy duty 3/4" drive torque wrench to torque the nut to the specs listed in the instruction manual. I included a video of the # C49FR for you to take a look at.

  • What Diameter Ball Hole Does Curt Ball Mount # C49FR Fit
You wouldn't most likely. The ball hole you'd need to have in your ball mount to use the hitch ball # C49FR would need to be 1-1/4 inch. There might be some slightly variance but this dimension is pretty standard. The hitch ball # C45312 is an example of a ball mount that fits this.

  • Quality Stainless Steel Hitch Ball Setup for Towing a Boat Trailer Around Salt Water
Since the Curt 2-5/16" Stainless Steel Hitch Ball # C49FR comes with non-Stainless Steel mounting hardware I recommend taking a completely different route altogether. For your application I recommend picking up the Self-Locking, Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w Stainless Balls # DTALBM6600-2S. This has Stainless Steel hitch balls and an aluminum body with plugs for the hardware so it's really hard to beat when it comes to overall rust prevention. This has a 6" drop or a 7" rise so you'll need...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution for RPOD 177 Teardrop Camper
From what I found online, the Rpod 177 has a dry weight of about 2500 lbs and a cargo capacity of about 1300 lbs. Since a trailer's tongue weight is typically between 10-15% of its loaded weight, the tongue weight would range from about 250 lbs for an empty trailer to about 550 lbs if loaded all the way up to its 3700 lb GVWR. Since the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-0600 weight distribution/sway control system you'd asked about covers tongue weights ranging from 250-600 lbs, it would be the perfect...

  • Is There a Stainless Steel 2-5/16 Hitch Ball for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems
Yes, there is a stainless steel alternative to the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems part # EQ91-00-6100, it's the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball - 1-1/4" Diameter x 2-5/8" Long Shank - Stainless Steel part # C49FR. This will work great with the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems but you may need to trim the shank down to 2-3/8" per Equal-i-zer. The stainless steel option will last much longer than the chrome plated one above.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for Trailer with 560-lbs Tongue Weight
When choosing the correct weight distribution hitch for your trailer you will want to choose one where the loaded tongue weight of your trailer falls close to the middle of the prescribed range for the hitch. The Curt MV Weight Distribution System - Round Bar - 8,000 lbs GTW, 800 lbs TW # C17051 you were looking at is designed for trailers with between 600-lbs and 800-lbs of tongue weight, so it's not going to be the best fit if you're routinely around 560-lbs of tongue weight.
