Hi everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at this adjustable ball mount from BulletProof Hitches. This is gonna be for 2 1/2 inch hitches and give you a pretty decent amount of adjustment. Now they do make these with larger and smaller drop sizes so you can find the right one for you and your truck and trailer combination. But this one will give you at its max, a 6 1/4 inch drop and a 6 1/2 inch rise in its maximum rise position. Let's check it out.

Now, it's important to note that this is part of their medium duty series, which means you're not gonna get the highest weight capacity out of this. It's part of their medium duty because it's got a hollow shank and it's just overall not as high with the weight capacities. So as you can see from the outside here we've got two different ball sizes to choose from. And you will get slightly different capacities out of them. The 2 5/16 up top is gonna give you a 14,000 pound gross trailer weight rating, that's how much weight it can pull.

And the two inch ball on the bottom here will give you a 10,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. Regardless of which one you're using, you will have a 2,000 pound max tongue weight. That's the maximum downward pressure on the end of the ball mount. If you need higher capacities, then you can check out their more heavy duty options and you can find those here at etrailer if you need them. Just make sure that you're not overloading your vehicle and you go by the lowest rated component in your whole towing system.

But if the weight capacity isn't a concern for you and you're just looking for the easy height adjustment, then this is gonna work out just fine. The pins and clips are included. And we'll just remove those to release the ball platform. From there, we can slide it up and down and repin it wherever we decide works best for our truck and trailer combination. So if you're the type of person that has many different trailers that you're switching between all the time, this is a great way to make sure that you're always towing level.

And the same goes for the different coupler sizes. If you need to swap that because we're switching trailers, just flip the whole platform upside down, repin it wherever you need it, and then you're ready to go and get on your way. So all of those adjustments are really easy to do. And again that's the big benefit of an adjustable ball mount. This is kind of the one-stop shop for all of our different trailers, and we don't have to constantly switching things out of the hitch. Now while the pins that we saw earlier are included, the hitch pin and clip are not. So these are things you need to provide yourself and I would strongly recommend getting something like a locking hitch pin to keep this whole system safe and locked in place. And while you're at it, you can always pick up a locking pin to replace one of these to keep the ball platform locked up as well. Because it's really not much use if the shank is locked in but this isn't. Someone could easily just take this. While it's nice that these pins and clips are included, they aren't necessarily secure. So it's always a good idea to swap those out if you're gonna leave this in the back of your vehicle all the time. Now to get this to the rise position, just pull that out of the hitch, flip it around, and slide it back in. And then repin it in place whenever you're ready to go. So that's how you get that maximum rise out of this. And honestly, on our truck today, it's a pretty good fit. If you did need a rise, it's gonna give you a good amount of room to work with. And one thing you may have noticed when I was flipping it around is the fact that there's two different hitch pin holes. These are gonna be spaced apart about an inch and a half center on center. So if you need a little extra clearance, you can use that outer one. Or if you don't need the extra clearance, use the inner one. I'll slide this back in and pin it in that inner one. And we can get a few measurements. Now those measurements we're gonna take are from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the trailer ball here which is 11 inches. That'll let us know what kind of room we have between our truck and our trailer whenever we're hooked up. And again, this is from the innermost hole. So if you needed extra clearance, you could shift it to the outer one. And from that same point on the hitch pin hole to the closest point here where we've got this reinforcement gusset on the bottom, it's 3 1/2 inches. And that lets us know what kind of clearance we have with our hitch and if we do need to use that outer hole just to clear with our larger hitch. And one of the nice things about these bulletproof hitches is that it's not just a really functional ball mount that's well built and well constructed, it's gonna be really functional in terms of accessories too because you can kit this out with other pieces. Such as a pintle lock that can slide in above here to make this compatible with lunette ring trailers. You could even put a step here if you wanted an easier way to get up into your truck without lowering the tailgate. Really, the possibilities are really wide. And it's just down to how you plan on using your ball mount. And the nice thing about those accessories is the fact that you don't have to remove this from the hitch. If you get a locking hitch pin, you can leave it locked in there all the time, you can just swap accessories based on your needs. And the ball mount remains ready to go for the next time you're ready to tow. But that'll do it for our look at this BulletProof Hitches ball mount and seeing how it fits in our 2 1/2 inch hitch.
