Video Transcript for Flint Hill Goods Ball Mount with Receiver Hitch Review

Hey, everyone. It's Evangeline right here at etrailer, and today we have the Flint Hill Goods ball mount with a two inch hitch receiver. That way, you can still tow your trailer and carry around your hitch mounted accessory for the full adventure. This is a great situation. We have our kayak trailer set up with four kayaks. We also have our hanging bike rack set up with the ability to carry up to four bikes.

That way, you can bring your friends, your family, out to the river and then afterwards, go for a little bike ride. You don't have to pick and choose. Now, this is a great setup here. Everything pairs very well together. This will also work with trailers of different shapes and sizes, and other hitch mounted accessories.

But we're gonna show you some measurements and some features to make sure it will work with yours. Let's start with what can you actually tow Do you have the right vehicle for this So, this is a two inch hitch receiver ball mount that fits into your two inch hitch receivers. And this has a 5,000 pound gross towing capacity. That, of course, depends on your vehicle's towing capacity. So this is really for your lightweight and medium size trailers.

This is also a two and a quarter inch drop ball mount and can only be used in the drop position. So that's measured from the top inside edge of your receiver tube, all the way down to where your ball mount is and where your trailer's going to sit. Now, your overall tongue weight capacity is going to be 500 pounds, and that includes the ball mount as well as the hitch receiver. With this style of ball mount, there's actually an order of things. So, as you can see, we are unable to take our trailer off with our bike rack installed.

So we'd have to take the bike rack off, then we can take the trailer off. And in reverse too, when we wanna install things, trailer goes on first and then the bike rack. The hitch ball is not included with your ball mount, this is gonna be extra. You can use this with any hitch wall you want though, as long as it has an inch shank diameter. So, here we have a two inch ball, we could switch it for another larger or smaller size. This has a two inch by two inch hitch receiver. You have the same hitch pin hole. Now, this does not have a hitch pin included, so the one securing the ball mount to our vehicle's hitch receiver, that is sold separately. You can find some here at etrailer. It uses the standard five eighths pin, and you're gonna do the same for your hitch receiver side, too. So, measurements to make sure that this will work with your vehicle. The closest point is gonna be measured from the center of the hitch pin hole, to the back of our hitch receiver. So measuring there, that's gonna be five inches. That'll help you figure out if it'll work around your bumper with our SUV here, and it comes kind of close. Now, the length this will add to the back of your hitch receiver center hitch pin hole to the center of the ball mount. That's gonna be 12 and a half inches. That's gonna be where your trailer sits. Now, the ideal setup was where that kayak trailer and that hanging bike rack, because of the way they sat. So the kayak trailer sat straight out, and then the hanging bike rack has a straight shank which goes up. You can use this with other accessories. I see this with cargo carriers as well, too. But make sure they have either a straight shank or one with a rise. If you have a shank that has a drop, you may lose access to your ball mount. So my thoughts on this ball mount with a hitch receiver is I really like the different opportunities that you get with this, because then you can carry both your trailers, as well as your bikes, or a cargo carrier. Now, it won't work for everything. There are limitations, but hopefully this video helps you out with the measurements to see if it'll work with what you wanna carry around. Just remember that the top hitch receiver is not used for towing, just for those hitch accessories, and you are gonna need those other smaller items, like the hitch pin or the hitch lock if you want to keep the secure, as well as the appropriate ball or hitch ball for your trailer.

I love having this hitch! It allows me to have my bikes and boat all in one trip! I would make sure you only have 2 bikes instead of 4 bikes. When I had a 4 person rack on hitch it did get hung up on the boat and I ended up having to put my bike in the boat because I tore up the bike rack. I would suggest watching your set up and learn how sharp you can turn before going on a trip!

I still love it! I did learn I have to hook the boat up first and then add the bikes afterwards! :

Great investment for our Teardrop. Compact and durable. Just need one wheel to level and let the Dolly wheel Jack do the fine tuning.

by:

This was exactly what I needed! I wanted to pull my jet-ski and a mountain bike to the lake, and this is perfect. Added a 2" ball for the trailer and the bike rack slipped right in the top. Now I can have fun in the water and then ride the trails. Excellent product, very functional, appears very well made and looks good.

Still working great! I use it on my Jeep Wrangler and it easily handles bike and ski.

by:

Great double hitch! Very strong & sturd y.

This item will be absolutely perfect to add a carrier for our tandem onthe back of our motorhome and between the coach and the toad. Been an etrailer customer for years. Prices are right, shipping has always been "Freaky fast" to borrow from another company. The one time I had a return it was hassle free. I love their free shipping at a certain price point but if you don't get to that level shipping costs seem a little high to me. BUT, here I was buying just this because they have them.

PERFECT! Almost ready for AZ again

The spacing between the upper and lower receiver is fine to accommodate a bike rack and a trailer. No problems what so ever

Still working great and in good condition I like the fact that I can a small trailer on the ball hitch and 48x24 cargo tray on the upper hitch or a bike rack of course. I have a country house and always hauling stuff up is critical

by:

The receiver works great for towing a boat and having a Yakima cycle hauler attached to the top receiver. It works great to distribute the weight evenly. It does not limit the turn radius or limit control of the boat trailer when you are backing it down the boat ramp. I can Mountain bike, kayak, and boat activities while on vacation.

Not the product I thought it was. With the bikes on the rack, it doesn’t clear the camper jack, and the hitch sits too low even on my 4x4- I need to get a 22” extension for the bike rack and raise it safely above the jack handle height. Glad I’m handy and can salvage the purchase. Shame on me for not doing all my research beforehand. I was taken in by pictures instead of common sense in a rush to make a camping trip with the bikes.

by:

This was exactly what we needed...and what was promised on the site. It worked great!

by:

Thank you so much for making such a great product. I did not even know these cool hitches existed. I had been struggling with how to tow my kayak trailer and my bike rack and saw something similar on the interstate. I quickly looked up etrailer and found this product. This hitch allows me to lock it onto my truck as well as lock the bike rack to this hitch. Now, I do not have to struggle to move different hitches back and forth on my truck. The product is fantastic and it shipped way faster than expected! Thank you for making such a great product that makes my life more convenient!

by:

I had purchased a hitch extension with the double receiver. And the day I was going camping discovered that by using the extension I could not connect the electrical or the safety chains.
I returned it to the store I purchased it from and checked on etrailer, for a ball mount with a 5 1/4 drop and the receiver for a bike rack, After not finding one in emailed a rep and he explained why I could not find the 5 1/4 inch drop, he was very helpful and got back to me quickly in the emails, so I ordered the product from etrailer. The service was as great.

I Purchased a Hitch Extender with Bike Rack receiver, The ball, and a Yakima Bike Rack, All went together easily, This set up will do the trick for my needs. It was a pleasure dealing with Etrailer as always. Whenever I need trailer or towing related stuff my first source is Etrailer!

by:

Moved from Ohio to South Carolina. Pulled a trailer and had a bike rack with multiple bikes, no issues. Held up, hasn't rusted. Would purchase again, but doesn't look like I'll need to anytime soon.

by:

The Maxx Tow Ball Mont with 2/ receiver performed great. I pulled the RV with a Yakima two bike rack in the upper receiver and.

by:

Not enough clearance from ground or from ball to yakima bike rack. A year later buying a clamp on towing bike rack and different receiver.

by:

It looks great but haven't had time to try it out yet.

by:

the 2 products I purchased work perfectly together on the back of the Coach for the mountain bikes while I'm towing motor vehicles or boat trailers and not have to bike rack my tow vehicles
Thanks

by:

Looks great, nice welds, not what I need. I was looking for a hitch for the jeep that I could tow a small trailer or mount my bike rack into. Will retry.

by:

Sturdy and functions exactly as it should. One thing to note...with a Drawtite hitch on a 2017 Subaru Forester, the back side of the upper mount just comes into contact with the bumper. Over time, it would probably wear on the plastic a bit. Maybe nothing a piece of cloth couldn't solve, but there is definitely contact.

by:

Exactly what we needed! I was afraid it might not clear the bumper of my 2000 Grand Cherokee but it fits perfect, is solid and appears well made. Now we're ready to hitch up the bikes and the camper and head out!

by:

Great little add on for bike rack or crafle. Held extra gear for our trips made life easier. Would order again.

by:

Great product for towing and having a hitch bike rack at the same time

by:

The bottom insert to the car is too long. I had to cut 4 inches and drill a new pin hole.

With any amount of weight, I would feel more confident the handling of that weight closer to the vehicle.

The entire application is awesome and I give it a total thumbs up.

by:

The product was exactly what I needed. It is of excellent quality. The shipping was fast and communication was excellent. The pictures and details allowed me to make the perfect purchase. I would definitely recommend etrailer.com to everyone that I am in contact with.

Thanks - George

I received my hitch receiver earlier than the expected date and very well packaged. Unfortunately I will not be able fully review until spring time as it is for our motorhome in effort to carry bicycles while towing our car behind. Should work for what we need. Looks to be well manufactured and welds are done nicely. Thanks again.

  • Can The Replacement Bent Towing Receiver SP325 Be Used On Other Bike Racks?
While it may technically be possible to fit the Replacement Bent Towing Receiver # SP325 to other racks, this is not something we recommend doing. The Replacement Bent Towing Receiver # SP325 is designed to only fit the Swagman Traveler XCS - Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack, which is now discontinued. If you attempt to use this with another bike rack, you are really getting into unknown territory, and we cannot say with certainty that the setup will be safe or secure. Using this part for any...

  • Recommended Adapter for Additional Clearance With Hitch Mounted Cargo Basket
Using an adapter like the Malone # MPG544 or Flint Hill Goods # FHG75VR will get you the extra clearance you need so you don't hit your cargo basket on the ground. However, any adapter like this is going to reduce the capacity of your hitch by 50% which is less than ideal. If the hitch on your 2001 Tacoma had a 500 lb tongue weight capacity like the # e64AR that would mean you could only carry 250 lbs. This can be pretty limiting since you also have to factor in the weight of your cargo...
